Re: 1982 GL1100 Foot brake is gone!!!!!

I would also look at the link from pedal to M/C to see if it rusted through.

Re: New to me `83A

This thing is an electrical nightmare. Had a push button start on left top of faring wired straight to the solenoid. reason for it was problem with start button. Seems to hang up and that's reason headlight will not work after starting. He ran a new start button rather than clean old one. The drivin...

Re: Another new-to-me '83

I have projects for several winters and some summers too. Bella is my only running bike ATM and she needs a front tire. Wife wants me to put voyager kit on bella so she can ride now. I am starting to think Trixies problem is not sprague clutch but starter gears. After rebuilding starter it started g...

Another new-to-me '83

I made a deal with fella 40 miles from me for an '83 Aspencade and extra motor for a grand. Problems I found so far is he had a car battery in trunk to replace bad bat.(may have wrecked electrical) Has all kinds of added wiring that will have to go. It got rear ended while parked and got replacement...

Re: new goldwing owner

Page 212 in the Clymer manual has one like above. Do not use the pic diagram in the main section as it is wrong.

Good use of a bad cover but I would put it face down so stand had nowhere to slip off.

The tanks vent through the cap. run in yard until it dies and remove fuel cap and see if it will restart.

Re: New to me `83A

I guess I be blessed this time. A friend of ours came over yesterday and saw the new wing and went to raving, talking about how her dad met her mom on one just like it. When she asked who I got it from she almost fell out cause that was the guy her dad sold his to after he broke his back 5 years ago...

New to me `83A

Just got another `83 1100. This one an Aspencade. but has a few issues. PO let it set for a year with dead bat. Now while idling is smells of raw fuel and if it dies after first crank it is dead. I mean no starter at all. Let it set an hour or so or jump solenoid and it will fire right up. Temp bar ...

Re: New member. New problems.

I would not leave rear caliper off and ride more than around the block. `83's have linked brakes and pedal is used for half your front brakes so doing that cuts braking by two thirds. I just did fork seals on Bella last winter and inspected bushing via honda and they passed and since problem was ove...

Re: Starting point for a restoration - GL1100?

I have to agree, Once it is running then you can test other parts as you fix them. By the time you are done with rest of bike them motor is run in and running better. These bikes run better the more you run them. Also a spin around the block helps test new or repaired parts to make sure it is right....

Re: 1981 GL1100 and Modern Day Fuels

Down here ethanol is not prevalent but it is getting more so. Our winters only last about a month or so and seldom below 20. In fact daytime temps hardly ever drop much below freezing. During that month I park bikes in the barn or house. Since they share space with horses it does not freeze in there...

without a kick starter I have no way to crank it. I told her that doing this I can also fix her sticking brake pedal with a zert, Change timing belt, flush radiator, and a few other minor things all at once.

Re: Starter runs but not

Thanx Wingadmin, I have looked through site on this and hopefully I can pull engine and clean sprague clutch by hand without having to get more things for it. Wife is all over me to get her wing running since mine is almost done and she does not want to ride on back. I appreciate the reply and help.

Starter runs but not

I got Trixie's starter rebuilt finally and installed and everything was acting like new. We went to take a ride after testing around here for a week and after 40 miles we stopped to take a break. Wife was on Johnny so she needs breaks more often. When we went to take off the starter sounded weird an...

Re: Hibernation

Don't know what you mean by normal winterization???? 1. Stabil in a full fuel tank-Engine run long enough the stabil is completely through the fuel system. 2. Battery tender plugged in. (if storing in unheated area, I would remove the battery and store it, plugged in to a tender in an area that doe...

Re: 1981 GL1100 and Modern Day Fuels

We have a couple places where they sell the 10% ethanol and when I fill up one of my bikes, either 04 rebel or 83 wing, I learned to add about 6oz of ATF. This helps negate the slight lose of power and MPG and seems to help engine sounds too. My Dodge pickup hates that stuff and almost refuses to ru...

Re: How to remove, rebuild and reinstall your starter

It could not grow shorter sitting there but it can rotate. It sounds like the sprocket turned and pulled slack into one side of the chain.Use your finger and put it in the hole in the sprocket and twist it counterclockwise and clockwise to get the slack out.

Re: How to remove, rebuild and reinstall your starter

You could pack it with grease and that will hold it where you put it. You could do as I did and just angle the starter to line up the shaft with the sprocket and then rotate the starter to line up sprocket. Mine was off center to inside of motor so I moved the front of the starter out until the shaf...

Re: Polishing Diamond Plate or Aluminum

Not into the polishing yet but have found a way to keep whatever shine you have on any metal. It even helps keep rain water from causing spotting. I keep a few bottles of Turtle wax chrome polish and rust remover. I do trucks and body panels with turtle wax paste so I tried this stuff for truck chro...

Re: 83 GL1100 killing plugs. Why?

I would say your on the right track. These are not CX motors. They really like it between 3000 and 5000 RPM's. Under that and you will foul plugs. 3 and 4 are secondary cylinders and probably will show the affects a lot sooner. I do not think they are secondary enough with all things equal but combi...
