Re: Nova Scotia this year

Been to N.S. 4or5 times in the last ten years. The Cabot Trail is great. We did it counter-clockwise. Don't forget your T-shirt from the Coastal Restaurant. If you like white sand beaches, the south shore can't be beat! Summerville Beach,Rissers Beach and others. An unbelievable pottery shop next to...

Dunlop Elite 4's

Going to install my first set of Elite 4's this week after running Elite 3's for the last 30 years. What are the pressures that everybody is running? Positive/negative re views? BTW I will be installing a new 2oz package of Dyna beads in each tire. I have had good luck with the beads as far as elimi...

Re: How Much Do You Pay For Insurance?

Wow! I don't think I could afford the insurance rates for Canada! I get my insurance thru AARP and Foremost and am paying about $150/yr for full coverage(06 w/navi,ABS) with towing and a stipend of $100/day for 3 days I think as long as your broken down bike is brought to a dealer, and it includes $3...

Re: Back to Nova Scotia

Thanks WA. That was my plan. My wife and I also did the circumnavigation of the Gaspe Peninsula,QC 2 years ago and also did it counter clockwise. That ,BTW is also a great ride and a beautiful part of Quebec and very friendly people to boot! We would highly recommend it to anyone who has the opportu...

Back to Nova Scotia

This year(first week of Sept) my better half and will be going back to Nova Scotia to do the Cabot Trail. We will take the new ferry out of St. John New Brunswick, across the Bay of Fundy to Digby, N.S. From there we will take 2 days and stay at 2 B&Bs then to Troy, on Cape Breton to stay in a re...

Re: Electrical Connection Add-On

W.A.- Thanks for the ideas. I'm not sure I could move the MP3 player really because I tend to change songs, turn it on/off etc while it is in the left hand pocket. Also I do get noise thru the radio thru the headsets too. My wife is not bothered by it much but she has a lot more wind noise than I ge...

My MP3 player is powered by its internal battery.I do get some whine rising and falling with the engine rpm's also but maybe not as pronounced. Is there anything available that would help this?

Re: GL1800 Sun Visor for OEM Navigation Display

+1 on the nav screen visor. I have had mine for 2 years and like it. It won't work all the time in all situations but for the most part it does as advertised at not too much of a cost out of pocket.

Electrical Connection Add-On

I have an '06 that I use my Sansa MP3 player(using the AUX setting) thru my headphones for my wife and I regularly and am really annoyed by the alt(?) whine and the revs of the engine also. So I am thinking of buying E.C.'s isolator that is supposed to take care of this problem. Has anyone have firs...

Re: What's this for???

I too was wondering what that "thingy" was too. I finally found out when replacing the shaft seal on the rear wheel end of the shaft that it is indeed a vibration dampener. I was getting oil out thru it so I finally found out from my Honda dealers mechanic because I thought originally that...

Re: How Much Do You Pay For Insurance?

Been riding (my second) Goldwing for 30yrs. this year.First one was an '86(bought new) that I had for 24 yrs, and now riding an '06. No tickets or accidents and full coverage for 12 months of the year and my insurance is about $150.00/yr.(I think that is thru AARP) Don't think I could afford Canada'...

Re: GL1800 brake recall from Honda

After having my rear brake dragging as I went up my driveway(1/3 mile long) going out for a burger 2wks ago I brought my bike into my local dealer this last Saturday. They did the test as I waited and determined it needed service( rear wheel almost locked up during the test) so I reluctantly left it...

Brake recall

Well it happened to me even though I was hoping to be one of the lucky ones. I decided to take my honey out for a burger since we had our first 80 degree day today and looked forward to a 40 mi. roundtrip ride. But when I got to the end of my 1/3 mile long driveway, I slowed at the end to enter the ...

Re: Planning a Ride from Saskatchewan to the Maritimes

Equally as spectacular as the Cabot Trail is the circumnavigation of the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec. My wife and I did that trip a couple of years ago and loved every minute and mile of it. We did do it in 5 days and stayed at a different venue each of those nights which made days of 150 miles +- eas...

Re: Trailer picture thread

This is the Kompact Kamper trailer I got last year used. It is a 2001 but in perfect shape. It did come as black gelcoat and I sprung for a matching paint job with OEM Honda U.S. Paint and had a local hot rod builder paint it for me. He did a wonderful job although I was told the paint was a PITA to...

1986-87 Goldwing Aspencade Engine Parts

I have had these in a box since 1987. Was given to me by my brother who was a Honda Certified Mechanic at the time in L.I.,N.Y. I had a '86 Aspencade I bought from his dealership new and sold it a few years ago after owning it for 26 years. These parts came off a bike that came into his shop totalled...

Re: ARE YOU KIDDING ME

I feel your pain!! It is 7:30 AM Thursday 9th and we have at least 2" of new snow(on the Maine coast) and it is still coming down. And I can't even think about getting my bike out my driveway(1/3 mile long) because it is so soft and muddy. This is going to be a shortened riding season for sure.W...

Re: adding a backrest

I have installed the Utopia on my '06. It is a little scary cutting into an $800 seat but if you take your time and measure a half dozen times and cut once it is'nt too bad! And you need to be extra careful if you are cutting into a heated seat like I have. I do like the backrest overall and helps o...

Re: Seat Pads

I have never tried a gel pad for my '06 Wing but I did get as a X-mas present this last year('14) a pad for my bike. I got a BumBagForBikers. It is a pad that is filled with buckwheat hulls. They say their claim to fame is that it is a loose material so if you get "sore" in the position yo...

Re: What is your mileage on your goldwing?

My new to me 06 Wing now has 21,000mi on the ODO. I got it 4 yrs ago(this season) when it had 4,100mi.Maines riding season is somewhat short compared to many places! I had an '86 Aspencade that I bought new in '87 and sold it to a neighbor to get my '06 and it had 67,000mi on the clock and still ran...

I have since bought a textile jacket to use on my bike rides and so I am selling my "old" leather jacket with winter liner. It is in good condition and well broken in as I have owned it for more than 20 yrs.It is size 44 as can be seen in the photos. It would benefit from an oiling since I...

Re: Gel vs Air seat pads

Haven't tried mine yet but I got a seat cushion for X-Mas in '14 for my '06 Wing. It is a thin-ish bag filled with buckwheat hulls that is re-arrangeable under your butt by sliding around a little. It is supposed to be able to change shape as your butt gets "used" to it in one position the...
