Utopia backrest on Gl1200 seat

Greetings to all....I have a '85 Limited Edition that I want to rework the seat over the winter. I just wanted to know...since the pans on the stock seat, and the '87 Aspencade seats are plastic...can the slide in bracket be attached securely under the seat, like it is on my fibreglass pan, that I c...

Re: Progressive rear shocks

Hi there...yes,they do sit high for awhile...they will start to settle lower with time. Riding solo...I do not add any air...helps it sit lower. The rule of thumb for a passenger seems to be 10 lbs. for every 50 lbs. extra. That's how I've used mine these past 19 years on my '85 Limited...and, it ha...

Re: GL1200 LTD cam belt cover gaskets

Thank you all for your imput...that's why I love this site so much. The drain holes referenced, is where I'm getting my leak...smart thinking on Hondas' part. I get a dime size spot over night. I leave it on the side stand mostly...so that I can feel confident that it is leaking out...and, it is goo...

Check out Pete's Superbike out of Quebec.
Best tire prices in Canada, by far, and they will deliver to your door in 2-3 days for about
30.00.
I got Michelin Commanders for my 1200 from there for around 350.00 for the pair.

GL1200 LTD cam belt cover gaskets

Greeting all...I have to go into the cam covers to replace a leaking camshaft seal, and or,crank shaft seal.

Can anyone tell me why Ron Ayers microfiche calls out 2 different gaskets for each side?.

And, how would I know, I'm ordering the right one?.

Thanks very much.

GL1200L crankshaft seal

Hello all...wondering if someone might be able to help me with something. I have some leaking from my front belt covers. Bike has 230,000 Kms. I have not gone into it yet, until I had some seals on hand. I have the 2 camshaft seals...however, the crankshaft seal is discontinued. Has anyone had any l...

'85 Limited Edition water pump

Hello all...I was able to pick up a '84 Aspencade water pump really cheap with less than 10,000 miles on it. I more or less want to have it as back up, as my LTD has 228,000 kms. on her now. However...when, I was on the Ron Ayers fiche page, I noticed there were 3 water pumps called out for the '85....

Re: GL1200 Front Brake Calibers

Thank you for posting so quickly...I kinda thought I could get away with not needing to bleed the rear
caliber...and, thank you for the 'heads up' to not use the pinch off clamps.

GL1200 Front Brake Calibers

Hello everyone...I have an '85 Limited Edition, that I'm about to rebuild the front brake calibers. The bike has 227,000 kms. To my knowlwdge, this will be the first rebuild. My question has to do with the bleed afterward...on the right caliber, which is linked to the rear brake. If I use a hose pin...

Re: Problems from 10% ethanol-gas ?

Here in Ontario, I've heard that 91 octane is ethanol free. My '85 Limited Edition seems to run good on it.
I don't know if because she's a fuellie model...but, she sure lets me know when she doesn't like the
cheaper gas...she runs pretty crappy.

Re: floorboards does it have to have a heel toe shifter

Hello there...I have an '85 limited Edition with Makland Lo Boy floorboards. They sit approx 2 inches below other boards, and more forward, which means the stock shifter stays put. The other cool thing about these boards, is that you can slide your feet under, and your shins up against the rear of t...

GL1200 LTD white smoke

Hello everyone, Hoping some of you can shed some light on my issue. About a month ago, following a nice leisurely ride down the highway...got on the off-ramp and noticed white smoke out the exhaust. Figured it was a head gasket...got her to my mechanic who changed out the head gasket on right side.....

Greetings everyone...looking for some guidance...if it's okay with you guys. I'll try and be as brief as I can. I have a '85 Limited Edition with 216,000 kms. (Cdn) on her...still runs great. A few years ago, I installed a 1500 rear drive unit in her...works well. My issues lately, are the the infam...

Re: Vapor Locking or something else?

Hi there, The symptoms you describe could also suggest the crank sensor under the belt covers. On the LTD, there is only one and it is non-adjustable...just straight bolt on. The sensor over time, and with heat develops a small hair line crack that interferes with the signal going to the computer......
