Excellent review - thanks! This one is high on my list as the 'next' helmet.

Re: Shinko Tire Review

That's very possible! I'm using them (successfully) on my 1200 - which is probably 200 lbs lighter and 50 less horsepower than an 1800.

Re: Shinko Tire Review

The pattern I'm starting to see here:

People are generally happy with the 230 Tourmaster.

People that are unhappy are using the 890 or other models.

Let's see if we can support/defeat this conclusion.

Re: Shinko Tire Review

People please when you post "my Shinko just failed" - what MODEL of tire? And how OLD is it?

Continuing to run Shinko 230 front and rear on my 1200, with no issues.

Re: Shinko Tire Review

Shinko 230 on GL1200 Aspencade here. So far 7500 km on the set - the rear is about half worn. Run 40 psi front and rear. No troubles yet, so far would buy again.

Re: GL1200 Speed Sensor failures & repair

Interesting repair! My '85 Aspencade speed sensor failed recently - but it was the ears on the plastic gear in the front wheel gearbox that broke. Have you had any queries since your post regarding performing more of these electronic module repairs? I wonder what causes the Hall Effect sensor failure?

Re: News tires on the GL1200

I went with the Shinko Tourmaster 230 on my last change. The rear looks about 1/3 worn in 5000 kms. So it should last three years for me which is a nice interval. Quiet smooth riding grippy and cheap.

Re: Fork Seals, GL1200

Looks like I'm into this job now (85 Aspencade). When you order the part 39 seal kit (51490-MN8-305) - is that enough for ONE fork or both? Assuming one. Also going to replace the bushings at the same time. The guide bushing 51414-KCR-003 is easy. But then there are two part #s for the slider bushin...

Re: Yellow wire 3 pin plug

See the circuit breaker to the left of the battery, with two big red wires attached? That's where your likely-burnt-up plug is located. I have a breaker there as my GL has the alternator conversion (which is a good option for you if your stator and/or regulator/rectifier is fried. IMG_1597_1024x768....

Huge job since the engine needs to be removed. Some great Youtube videos are available though! I did the 'Poorboy' myself.

Re: How to check oil level in front forks of GL1200

15W fork oil did the trick for me in my '85. There was plenty of old oil in there... also plenty of moisture etc. Look for info about changing fork springs to find some oil change tutorials too.
