Re: 1500 Headlight Question

I'd suggest skipping the halogen bulbs altogether. You'll be MUCH happier with the results of one of these:

Re: Great price on timing belts?

When I had looked months earlier I think they were around $35. When I was pricing out having them installed by bike shops they would only install Honda brand belts at approximately $75 each. One of the shops said it was a "reliability issue". I have worked with many Gates belts in industry for over...

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.

Although It does require advanced skill levels to work on, I have done the timing belts, changed tires several times, replaced the water pump, replaced u-joint (a real B-----), replaced forks, and installed MANY accessories and custom lighting enhancements. I LOVE this bike BECAUSE it is Heavy! Any...

I've used the same stuff, I ended up having to leave it on a lot longer than the instructions said in order for it to work properly.

Re: Re Ride-On

Honestly, I value my life more than the cost of a new tire. I would ride a plugged tire, gently, for as long as it took me to get home so that I could replace it.

Some sad news - Rudy / Ric Woodson

Many people know of Rudy, aka Ric Woodson from his products. In fact, this month's contest prize is one of Rudy's products. Back in 2012, Ric was diagnosed with colon cancer, and I just received news that he has passed. Ric was a genuine, honest and friendly guy, and smart - apart from Goldwings, we...

Re: From a Wing to a Burgman?

The CVT in the 650 is different than the one in the 450. The 650's transmission and belt are sealed, and supposed to last the life of the bike - but they usually don't. They are expensive to replace, as John mentioned. The 400's transmission is easily worked on, and the belt can be had for much chea...

Re: Sudden Loss of Power

Thanks for the feedback............on second thought I'm going to install an electric solenoid valve............it's been ordered and it's on its way. I've read about the hydraulic problem and even worked on a Chevy engine with a busted rod that had a similar problem with a coolant leak. I'm just n...

Re: From a Wing to a Burgman?

I should mention that they are a NIGHTMARE to work on. I thought the PC800 was crazy to get bodywork off of in order to work on it. The Burgman has it beat! Once the body panels are off, it's not too tough to work on (except the engine being tucked away under the seat isn't very accessible), but get...

Re: epoxy sealant/ adhesive

Make sure you're using ABS solvent, not PVC, and not "universal." This is what I use, and it works better than anything else I've tried: https://www.amazon.com/Oatey-30916-Special-Cement-4-Ounce/dp/B000FSQUNI/ref=sr_1_9 I did a review on Plast-Aid here: https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f...

Re: From a Wing to a Burgman?

Looking for some opinions here. I currently have a 96 GL1500SE and a 84 GL1200 Standard. I am starting to really like my 1200 now that I have turned it into a standard, but the 1500 is just not growing on me like I hoped it would. It intimidates my wife and she is the main reason I got it. I want h...

I stopped by a friend's house this past Saturday as he was replacing both tires and got stumped on getting the rear tire seated on the beat. The front tire went exactly like a YouTube that he watched without any problems. He and did everything we could think of to get the back tire to hold air enou...

Re: Voltmeter questions...

This my be a bit over thinking, but that's what I do. What gauge wire would you use for a digital voltmeter? Is it necessary to switch the power through a relay or can I just power direct from acc. terminals with a fuse? What size? Voltmeters draw a miniscule amount of current. You can use a small ...

If you have access to a mechanic's stethoscope, put it right on the valve covers and see if you can localize the noise as originating from there. If you don't have one, you can make a poor man's stethoscope out of a piece of dowel pushed up against your skull near your ear as you push it onto wherev...
