Re: Locked handlebar/lost key

The 1100 ignition locks are not exactly high tech, high tolerance locks. They contain a simple, low-tolerance wafer core. If you have the appropriate lock jiggler tool, it's usually all you'll need to unlock one of them.

Re: 1982 GL1100 timing belt problem

...other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play? Boy did I step into it with this one. I bought a 1982 GL1100 with 30k on it, that had been sitting for ten years. Rebuilt the carbs, replaced the fuel pump, water pump, fuel line and filter and petcock with OEM. For no good reason I bought timing b...

Re: How I keep my Fram oil filter o-ring flat during an oil change.

It would seem to me that the simplest solution would be to exercise your rights as a consumer and purchase a different brand of filter that doesn't fold the O-ring up in the box. :)

Re: Innovv K5 4K Dual Camera System Review (VIDEO)

You might find that mounting the camera in the center will cause it to hit the front fender on a hard hit in a pot hole or speed bump. That won't harm the camera I don't think but it can damage that expensive fender or even the plastic where the cameras is mounted. The camera has a wide enough view...

Re: Critters In The Airfilter

I have no options to prevent critters from entering the rented winter storage space. I'd like some ideas for keeping critters out of the air filter of my 2000 GL1500 SE. I was thinking maybe installing some hardware cloth at the entrance of the air cleaner. One and done! Any other ideas which are p...

Re: Wing has blacked out, won't start

I would suggest spraying it clean with a quality electrical contact cleaner before reassembly, to get rid of all the oily, gooey residue left behind by WD-40 once its carrier evaporates, or you'll be repeating this job again in the future.

Re: Oil Filter Bolt Placement On The Engine

The reason I always thread the bolts in all the way by hand, and then snug down with a tool. You could helicoil it, but I have had less than great results with helicoiled oil drains. I had a 1991 MR2 Turbo once upon a time, was laying on the driveway changing the oil, and when I removed the bolt, th...

Re: 1976 1000ltd

I thought the oil seal between the two pumps is in the front of the oil pump? The water pump is driven by the engine, by a shaft that comes through the front (pressure) oil pump. That (back) side of the water pump has oil flowing around. The front side of the water pump is subjected to coolant. The...

Re: LED Dash Lights DISCONTINUED

For hot spots, you can use this trick, that's worked for me before: take a translucent white milk jug, cut out a piece of plastic and glue it to the top of the LED as a filter. Works great, diffuses the light and reduces overall brightness.

Re: How to remove and replace your timing belts

I have a 1990 GL1500. I bought it in 2018 with only 10,000 miles on it. The previous owner replaced the tires, brakes, and all fluids. I did not know anything about timing belts until a few weeks ago. Bike now has 13,000 miles. When I called the previous owner about the belts, he told me he could n...

Thanks! Actually ended being the battery, put a new one in bingo, everything works and fired right up. Weird that the old one said 12.5v when I checked with multimeter but hey were running now👍🏻 It's pretty common for a sulfated battery to show correct voltage under no load, but as soon as a load i...

Honestly, it isn't going to matter a lot - people have put it in both ways with no ill effects (or noticeable difference). But for me, for the reason I mentioned, I put them in shorter coils down.

It's the seal IN the water pump. Changing the seal on the gasket won't fix it, you have to change the water pump. As the other user mentioned, read up here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=275

Wow. That's some serious damage for a little rodent. I keep peanut-butter baited mousetraps around my garage. Only ever saw a mouse a couple times, but can't be too careful. (the mouse I saw ate the peanut butter, and that was the last thing he ever tasted)

Re: Tachometer and cruise control

The cruise control monitors the engine speed via the same pulse line that drives the tachometer. So if that pulse line is malfunctioning, both your tachometer and cruise control will stop working.

Replied to your other thread, don't be cutting any plugs off. Get a pin removal tool and remove wires not required. If you look at this video, it's not specifically about pin removal, but I do demonstrate how easy it is to use a pin removal tool to pull the pins out of the Goldwing connectors: 6Pxd...

Re: Which way do the fork springs go?

I've always put the tighter wound end at the bottom. This means it is the first to compress, before the lower rate section (looser wound coils) does. That way, the little bumps over the road compress the smallest amount of spring. If you put it in the other way around with the tighter coils at the t...

The pegs feelers should be the first thing to touch down. If you continue and let the pegs fold up all bets are off. What year is that one, it looks like the some of the plastics are slightly different. It was my impression that after the pegs, the guards were the next thing to touch down, but obvi...

What I have been using for several years is Furniture Polish. Lemon Pledge or even the generic Walmart brand will work as well.
