It depends on the windshield. With my Tulsa Tall windshield, which is taller, wider and raked back more than OEM, the handlebars DO contact it at full lock in either direction - and that's with the handlebars correctly adjusted.

Check the antenna cable. If it has come disconnected, you will see exactly the symptoms you're experiencing.

Definitely check that the lever is seated fully back. When the reverse switches start to fail, the main symptom is that the reverse handle has to be FIRMLY pulled back in order for it to engage.
