Re: Rear brake adjustment

Make sure you REMOVE the bolt, don't just loosen it. That's a safety feature, to ensure your brake pedal doesn't fall off if the bolt gets a bit loose. You have to REMOVE it.

Re: Almost There...

Had hoped to pull the rear tire today, but stymied by the exhaust. The left side of the exhaust is blocking the axle from sliding out, so I'll be getting under the bike to see how it comes out. Removing the saddlebag frame was pretty easy, compared to getting the aftermarket bumper off. 2024-07-06 ...

Re: How to Beat the Heat (VIDEO)

Actually, wearing gear in heat like that is the only way NOT to die. Without it, perspiration doesn't work to cool you (the wind takes it away too quickly without it imparting its cooling effect), and the air temperature, which is higher than your body temperature, means the wind will actually heat ...

Re: GL1800 brake fluid - Pro Honda DOT 4 formula change?

Despite what they may tell you, Honda does not make engine oil, oil filters, air filters, brake fluid, light bulbs, timing belts, molybdenum grease or pretty much any other consumable product branded "Pro Honda." ALL of those products are re-branded versions of commercially-available produ...

Re: GoFundMe

I don't think getting argumentative with a police officer ever works to your advantage. I don't think they have to charge you with a crime before they ask to see your driver's license. They only need to have probable cause to stop you and initiate an investigation. Your cooperation would have made ...

If you have no documentation as to when the timing belts were last changed, then that should be your next step before cranking and attempting a start!

Chinese S2000 GL "Goldwing"

When I first saw this a few months ago, I thought it was a joke. It's not. Great Wall Motor (GWM) is releasing a new motorcycle under its "Souo" brand, named the S2000 GL. It is a 2000 cc, eight-cylinder boxer touring bike which clearly has stolen a great deal of its design from Honda's Go...

Re: 79 GL1000 Restoration - Need help assessing cylinder wall

You've got to get that seal. If it's pitted enough that you're still getting leakage, that exhaust valve is just going to burn, and then you've got a whole other problem.

Re: Blackwing vs Superbrace fork brace

The difference between the Superbrace and the Blackwing brace was like night and day on my 1500. My 1500 was wobbly and vague on high speed sweepers when I hit bumps (think highway on-ramps) with the Superbrace. When I replaced it with the Blackwing brace, it transformed the front suspension into a ...

Re: Tire Balancing Beads

The beads worked such magic for my motorcycles, that years ago when I was constantly having to get the tires on my truck rebalanced, I figured "I'll just put some beads in there and be done with it." I left the weights on, because I figured they weights were probably close, and the beads w...

Follow the procedure I show in the article I posted above. You remove the rubber, then pull that trim piece free, and then by pivoting the mirrors it will give you the access you need.

Re: Dashcam Placement

A thought about helmet mounts. One of the most lethal and debilitating brain injuries is caused by sudden, rapid rotation of the head. This is why helmets are typically smooth, slippery and rounded, so that they glance off of surfaces at impact, without imparting rotational energy into the helmet. A...

Re: Special pump for air shocks

Using a powered compressor to air up your shocks is just asking for trouble - it's VERY easy to blow out seals. Best thing to use is a small, cheap bicycle hand pump that you can very easily regulate to the few PSI you will need.

Agreed. Dishwashing soap or detergent is corrosive. Especially to aluminum.

The best thing for these seals is a glycerin-based "personal lubricant" that is water-soluble. Works great for mounting tires, too.

They need a lot of power reserve - so you might need some capacitors on the power input to absorb peaks. Also make sure you have some sort of cooling air moving over the heat sinks.

Re: tappet adjustment screws

Ouch. That's a mess.

Inexpensive borescopes can be had on Amazon for around $25 and they are now small enough that you can insert them in through a spark plug hole to examine the inside of a cylinder. This will go a long way to diagnosing this kind of problem.
