Re: Ignition Switch

Never, EVER use WD-40 in any lock cylinder. EVER!! WD-40 is not intended to be a lubricant. It is a water dispersant/preservative to prevent corrosion. It does this by leaving behind a sticky, oily film after the carrier has evaporated. Filling your lock cylinder with its tiny pins and springs with ...

Re: How To Article JPGs not available

I received an email to the How-To Articles at: https://goldwingdocs.com/How-To-Articles.asp I browsed a few that caught my eye including 'How to renew the vacuum lines on the auto cruise valve to the accumulator' at: https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=64346 However it doesn't h...

Re: How to winterize your motorcycle

Silly question - at what point should I consider winterizing? I live in Virginia, and while it gets cold and snows periodically, I am usually able to get out at least once a month throughout the year on my 1999 GL1500. When not riding, I have it on a tender, and on the center stand. Just changed th...

Re: Adding an avatar to your profile

This is why I never visit here I can't do much.. I can't put a photo in the avatar.. I can put photos in Craig's list. It shows where to load photos from my photo gallery.. Here I only see the size of photo, not where the photo is coming from.. If you can't get it to work, you can send me the photo...

Re: Ignition Switch

Just to confirm that the steering head isn't locked in place - if it is, and there is pressure on the lock, you won't be able to rotate the key. You need to wiggle the handlebars as you rotate the key to get it to loosen up.

Re: oil Filter

Having trouble finding oil filters locally. I'm in Alberta Canada. Fram CH6009 is the right one. Ch 6012 is the same but different size O rings. Cant get these locally. Will a Fram CH6015 work? These are available. Go to your local NAPA and buy one of their equivalents. FRAM filters are pretty much...

Re: Mouse House in Trunk??

I always have mousetraps with peanut butter in my garage (and my airplane hangar). I haven't got one in my garage for a few years, I get them all the time in the hangar. The idea being to get them before they take up residence in expensive vehicles!

Re: Q for all bikes (speedo cable).

I've had this happen before, using an OEM cable. When I had a look, I realized that when I reinstalled the cable, I routed it improperly, causing it to bend with a smaller radius than it was designed for. That caused it to fatigue and fail quickly.

Re: GL1500 sloppy throttle

You can make that adjustment for cable stretch both at the grip as well as in the cable on the left side of the engine. Don't tighten it too much (there should be a little bit of free play) or you'll get binding, particularly when the steering is turned to full lock.

Re: Just Bought a Goldwing!!!

Beautiful bike, and I love that color.

The bikes are heavy, and hard to push around. If the tires are at all low, like others have said, you'll have considerable resistance to pushing it around.

Re: 5-th speed

Our 1500s are beautiful bikes but agricultural transmissions. Worst shifting bike I've ever owned in almost 60 years of riding. I'll be interested if you split the cases as 5th can be vague at times on my '89 too. I suspect our agricultural tractor transmissions are due to the large torque at low R...

Re: Ignition Switch

The cheap fix is to have a new key made. Chances are that's the problem.

The ignition switch is not easy to replace, by design: otherwise it would make it easy to steal the bike.

Dry graphite lubricant spray is what I have always used, also works great on clutch cables (for bikes with a cable clutch) as well as speedo cables.

Finally sorted out the problem with the severe handlebar shake and also the vibration in the handlebars. I had ordered the Traxxion Dynamics front and rear shock upgrade, also bought the complete steering upgrade from Max. On stripping the bike down, I found the lower swing arm front nut and bolt w...

Another vote for Deoxit. It's by far the best contact cleaner I've ever used. Not inexpensive, but it works, and you don't need much.

Re: Pulse Ignition Module

I'm getting my '81 GL1100 back one the road after too many years of being a garage queen. I discovered the potting material has melted out of the housing. What is the cause of this? I believe they were working when the bike was parked. Is it an indication of another problem in the ignition system? ...

Re: Wind Wings Location

The ones on the left go right where your knees are. They bolt in place using the bolts that hold the top of the fairing in place, right underneath the cubbies. No drilling required. I don't know about the other ones - they look like the ones for a GL1100. I don't think they are for a 1500. Wings 1.j...
