WTB, Dead Starter for 85-87 gl1200

I need the gear drive portion of a 85-87 gl1200 starter. Mine is noisy. If you have a dead starter I may want to buy it from you
Thanks,

speed sensor differences

Does anyone know if the speedometer speed sensor on a 1986 Aspencade and a SEI model are interchangeable? They have different part numbers but I don't know what the difference would be.
Thanks.

Re: lock on the false tank, would like a push button option

This is not an original idea, but I read in some forum, maybe this one, about using a spare key, cut to the right length and then epoxied into a knob that would be left in the lock cylinder. Of course, it could be removed, when necessary, for security purposes.

Re: Motorcycle Caddy

Believe me, I am not trying to be argumentative here, but I have a couple of questions, What is the oil level in the sump when the bike is setting still, relative to the transmission. What happens to the oil level in the sump when the front wheel is raised a foot to a foot and a half? Does it not ru...

Re: Motorcycle Caddy

I would guess that the transmission runs in oil and is not pressure lubricated like the engine. I see no harm. It would be similar to towing a standard transmission car while in neutral. Please prove me wrong.

I just bought a E3186 airtex pump from Rock Auto for 22 bucks. They did have one left.

Re: Drooping Mirror

I used a center punch to make several punches all over the ball. When you punch something it upsets the material somewhat which makes the ball fit tighter. I also punched around the edge of the portion that goes over the ball. Worked for me.

Re: NADA price difference between 84, 85, and 86

Anyone know why the NADA price guide shows the GL1200 Aspencade price for 84 and 85 to be so much higher than the 86. Was there something different about the 86? I have an 84 with lots of miles considering buying an 86, so I'm wonderind why the difference in price. Here are the different prices she...

Re: NADA price difference between 84, 85, and 86

I think that you will find that most NADA prices are just made up. Might be a good price for a a starting place for negotiations but that is all. I paid $2500 for my beautiful 86 with less that 40,000 miles.

Re: Dates on timimg belts?

Why even consider a used belt from a friend? If you are gonna tear it down to look, spend 30 bucks or less for Gates belts and replace them. Sometimes I think there should be an intelligence test before you are allowed to by a 25 yo bike.

Re: motorcycle jack

Over the years, I have picked up several bikes by using their exhaust with no problems. You could put together a filler block which would lift on the engine case. Since you would not have as wide a stance, the bike will tend to be tippier.(word?) Be sure and tie it down good.

Go to the United Side Car's web site, http://www.sidecar.com. Register, then locate a user called "Hack'n", (Lonnie Cook). He has mounted sidecars on many bikes and he always seems happy to share his knowledge. He probably has some pics of what you want.

Re: Rebuilding your seat

One thing I have done is buy a used seat, Off EBAY, with good foam and base, but with a bad cover. You can then take your time experimenting with the foam and cover without taking you bike out of service. Watch out for shipping charges, though. Some want outrageous amounts for shipping. I got mine f...

Re: 1200 stereo

Try bumping the front of the radio with your hand. If this makes it work, then the problem is with the contacts at the back of the radio where it plugs in. I fixed mine by spraying contact cleaner on the two halves of the plug at the back of the radio. Stick your key in the keyhole by the clock and ...

Re: Screw up Stories

A couple of years ago, I put some foot pegs on the KZ1000 I had at the time. I couldn't decide which direction I wanted them to fold. Left them folding straight up. Big mistake! The first stop light I came to, I stopped, my pants leg caught on the new peg and I couldn't put my left foot down. I look...

Remove the lid from the left hand saddle bag and you will see the spring loaded pin for the seat adjustment. Pull the pin out and move the seat forward or back.

I think you will find that it is an Aspencade, not Espencade. The Honda guys will look at you funny if you call it Espencade.
