Re: Going to remove the engine. Looking for encourage/advise

I did a video on the differences between the DB and OEM - there are none! Even the small imperfections in the casting are identical. I came to the conclusion that the same company (probably Japan or China) manufactures these alternators then they are sold by DB or rebranded as Mitsubishi (and price...

Re: 1800 brake pads

Yes ... at least for the solid axles, the brake pad part number is known as a D101P. It known to be used on 68 Karman Ghias, or there about. To NAPA that number is a TS-755; however, they are probably several states away. Autozone can cross them and often has them in stock. However, the info above m...

Re: Going to remove the engine. Looking for encourage/advise

* What washer? * what scissor gear? So DB's "new OEM knock offs" have bent shafts. That explains it and thanks for posting those vids. As for washers, like Rob was saying, I was thinking that yours Wing was a 2001-05. On those they use a mechanical ADG and 2 washers sit between the ADG and the rear...

Re: 1800 Alternator

If replacing the alternator, only replace it with a new one that comes in Honda packaging. Hopefully everyone is following this other post. Nearly everyone has problems with aftermarket alternators; however, most recently some end up with destroyed ADG (alternator drive gear) bearings. To replace th...

By the way, alternator is not OEM but DB Electric, that 100% a reason of what happened, but that a different story .... You've answered my next question. Yours makes the 3rd incident of this that I've heard of. In all 3 cases, a DB alternator was installed. Let me ask ... did you have any difficult...

Re: Accessory socket inline fuse replacement

... can the fuse be easily replaced? Or do I have to replace the whole darn kit? Most any parts store will carry that fuse. Usually the are sold in a pack of 5. I believe the holder that it goes into will either take a 1" or 1-1/4" fuse. Once it is replace, be sure to put it all back its little pla...

Re: Relays behind left saddle bag

Do you know or anyone else know who makes them for Honda? I doubt Honda makes their own relays. It wouldn't matter. What matters is that Honda's relays that come in Honda packaging are made to Honda specs and Honda requirements. Most OEM parts have quality control far higher than aftermarket parts.

Re: Relays behind left saddle bag

Yes I bought new relays off eBay 1PZ brand. Only difference was the color of wires. Many have done the same; however, there is also a huge difference in quality. Hopefully you will not find that out at a bad time. The ones on eBay will not provide years of reliable service like the OEM ones do. Als...

As for coolant leaking out, pull the left engine cover (chrome cover by left ankle), and verify that the coolant reservoir dip-stick cap is installed correctly.

Don't waist your time with used ECMs, ECMs from 2001-05s are all dyeing. Buying a used one is buying one that is almost dead too.

What is wrong with the alternator bearing in the rear case ??? The bearing in front of the alternator is know as an ADG (alternator drive gear) bearing . There are 2 bearings for the ADG ... a front and rear. Part #14 https://www.mrcycles.com/oemparts/a/hon/5053ed46f870021c54be4540/rear-case Part #1...

What, in particular, is failing in these vintage ECMs?
On this end, meaning the GoldWing repair industry, nobody knows. Like many vehicle control modules, the printed circuit board are slid into a plastic shell and epoxide closed.

Re: 2003 Goldwing Idle Issue

Pull the shelter and both center cowls and look for any chew marks from a rodent. If poor running, wanting to die at stops is the issue, most likely it is a failing ECM. Unfortunately, the DNA in all ECM made back then are telling them to die. The part number is the same for all 2001-03s. So to test...

Re: Strange noise?

If you have a headlight adjuster motor going bad, it can overdrive and "ratchet" the gear teeth, which make a rhythmic "thunk" "thunk" noise up inside the fork tunnel. I forgot about that one. To the OP, to test: - once started and running, and it is best to do this once the engine is at idle, move...
