Re: 2003 1800 ECT fault

Was just looking at another post and noticed that Greg listed the original ECM as 38770 MCA 670, mine is a 38770 MCA 305, apparently it's been changed at least once already according to that. It even gets more confusing. Honda's new part number ends in 38770-MCA-P00, and that's what'll be on the pa...

Re: 2003 GL1800 Front passagner turn signal not working

I can never remember what symptoms match what problem. However I believe you are describing a bad connection under the seat. The connection probably has burnt wires (green/red tracer) in it. The red arrow points to the connector. However the picture is taken from an 2005 trike. Your connecter will p...

Re: Noise when braking hard from triple tree?

Without hearing it, if it's not front fender related, then there are many other things it can be. For eample: - worn/loose steering head bearings - front brake pads not installed correctly - calipers not installed/torqued correctly - front tire not installed/torqued correctly Let see if your Wing ne...

Re: Noise when braking hard from triple tree?

Thanks for all the responses. I cannot duplicate it in the garage. I will take it out tomorrow and go to a parking lot and do some quick braking and try to pinpoint. Where I purchased it is not open on Saturday. Take a 5mm t-handled allen with you. That way you can duplicate the noise, remove the f...

Re: Noise when braking hard from triple tree?

I just bought a 2008 and have the same issue. I was thinking it was the head bearings, since I also have the low speed wobble, but someone mentioned that it could be the brakes not being bled correctly. I just had the recall done on the brakes, so now I am wondering. Interesting to hear what you fo...

Re: Noise when braking hard from triple tree?

Is it a snapping plastic noise or more metallic sounding ???

With your hand, try smacking on and around the front fender area to see if you can reproduce it. Or, remove the upper front fender and the caliper covers and test ride it for the noise.

Re: Rear shock pump number

"MCA" is Honda's designation that that particular part was originally designed for a GL1800. To me you are showing a Honda OEM part. Showa makes that for Honda. The color of the tag has meaning, but I cannot recall what years are tagged with a yellow tab. However, if I recall a blue tag is found on ...

Re: loss of power, knocking engine noise

I just replaced my ADJ at 185K. Mine did not "knock" There was growling noise coming from the vicinity of the alternator. In my case it was loudest just as I stopped for a light/stop sign when fully warmed up. Then decreased as the engine idled. What year is your Wing ??? 2006 Greg. Is yours doing ...

Labor will probably be more then 2hrs and less then 3. Any Honda dealer should have that tool ... however, that does not mean that they do.

Re: Rear brake Pulses

The common complaint is "it feels like I was braking on a cobble stone" roadway. Could that be what you are describing. I've have the cobblestone feel on my Wing and instantly knew it was not something that can be fixed "in the field." In other words, it's something Honda engineers must fix, or rede...

Re: Surge and idle problem of 1800 GL

This is the original part number, it will probably be subbed to a new number when ordered. #38770-MCA-671 Yes ... it will have Honda's current part number on it, but when you take it out of its package, the ECM will have another number on it. Current part number on package 38770-MCA-P00 Part number...

Re: loss of power, knocking engine noise

To me it sounds like ADG noise. If your able to hear it while riding, that is not a good thing. If it were my bike, the first think I would do is install Honda's GN4 10w-30 oil in it to see if the noise changes. Many use Amsoil, and occasionally it causes issues. Because of that, I no longer recomme...

Re: Surge and idle problem of 1800 GL

While out riding and the next time the FI light comes on, pull over, put in "N", and put the side stand down. Do not cycle the key to the off position until your codes are recorded. Because you are now not moving, and the side-stand is down while the FI light is on, that triggers the ECM to flash tr...

Re: 1800 spits up

Yes ... we probably are pretty much on the same page. However, I'm gonna stress again the need to pressure test the system to know there are no leaks, and that the cap is good too. The air flow through the rads needs to not be obstructed by aftermarket "bling." I probably pull more engines for trans...

Re: loss of power, knocking engine noise

I should probably describe it more accurately as sluggish acceleration. If there is no FI light coming on, sluggish on acceleration is usually do to "common" ignition problems such as spark plugs, plug wires, and coil(s). However, usually a misfire can be felt too. Other things that can effect perf...

Re: 1800 spits up

The system needs pressure tested. You could easily have leak(s) and not know it. Most chain parts stores will lend and have the equipment to pressure test the system and cap. I usually pressure test the system at 16-20psi and then at 6-8psi. Since a small leak may need to pool before spilling over i...

I like that term ... what a great way to describe it. Maybe a multi-gang connector all living under one hood is a better description:)
