Re: Compare spyder with Honda goldwing trike

My wife and I both ride Honda goldwing Trikes. I have considered getting a new one and I would like for someone who has experience with both to give me an actual comparison between the two. I have never ridden one. The dealership in Greenville Texas won't let you test drive until all the paperwork ...

can you post up a link?
A link ... for a Service Manual ??? Sorry, to my knowledge they have to be purchased.

You might send a PM to Techdude2000. He's the electrical guru and can possible assist further with diagnosing your issue.

Re: 2004 goldwing LCD, miles display not working

Do you have a Service Manual ??? There are a couple of simple tests in there. See section lights/meters/switches. The best tool for testing is a DVM (digital volt/ohm meter).

Re: SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL

Did Honda give a reason for synthetics not being a good choice? My manual says 10W-40 not 30? Honda's latest oil chart that should be hanging somewhere in every dealer will agree with your 10w-40 choice. I believe their chart says to says to use GN4 10w-40 for 2001-06 Wings, and 10w-30 for everythi...

Re: CB Ground Plane

Since there is no complaint in the OPs question, let me offer this info. If it helps, and if using an OEM cb antenna, if the antenna is tuned the RF meter will go from 3-4 down to a 1.1. People who do tune their antenna can reach further than other riders in the same group with untuned antennas. Usu...

Re: closing screw on the buttom of oil sump

It's a core plug. When reinstalling, it needs Honda Thread-Locker #2. For the thread locker to work, the threads must be totally clean. To do that, drain all the oil on the side stand, remove the core plug and let sit over night. Then set on the center stand, clean the threads with BreakClean (red c...

Does your trip mileage "a" and "b" work ??? Does other information on the info display show ??? All mileage is stored in the ECU which is part of the printed circuit board. The printed circuit board is attached to the back of the meter panel part #9 below. I'd start by making sure that all connecter...

Re: SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL

Just so everyone knows, in the beginning of 5th gens (2001), Honda was recommending their GN4 conventional oil. But, when they came out with their semi-blend HP4 in 2004, they started recommending that. The bottles back then even had "engineered for goldwings" printed on their labels. By 2007 they h...

How do I adjust my shifter on my GL1800? It seems to be to high. Are you referring to the OEM shift linkage. If so, it really is not adjustable because its splines are indexed. However, some have, but report back that their efforts turned into not being a good idea. Have you considered an aftermark...

Not that it's not the alternators that is needed, but they are expensive. I would have checked that battery, especially because it was new.

Re: Dies While Riding

Before assuming it is an alternator, and since alternators are very expensive, be sure your battery connections are clean and tight and that your battery tests good. Then test the alternator. If your alternator test bad, save yourself the money and trouble of buying one of those cheap "knock offs" f...

A friend recently dumped his wing while making a left turn into a parking area. He was going about 30 and leaned to the left, but the bike didn't cooperate and he had to lay it down. He said that it felt like it was resisting another left-hand curve about a week earlier. Does this sound like his an...

Re: Had to Bleed Clutch Again

I'd recommend that you check your Owner's Manual. There is a maintenance schedule in it and be sure to follow it to a tee. For proper maintenance, you will find that changing the clutch and brake fluid is required every 12k. Be sure to follow the requirements on changing the coolant also. For an 200...

Is your kill switch in the on position ??? Check you PGM/FI fuse (upper left corner). When you turn it on, put your ear near the seat and listen for fuel pump noise. The fuel pump should turn on for about 5 seconds each time the key is turned on. If you have no FI light, you may have an issue with t...

Not only are there no OEM wires going to the accessory terminal, but there are no extra wires going to the battery terminals either. At each battery post there should only be a single battery cable.

Re: Apparent alternator drive gear whine?

On 5th gens, ADGs can make lots of noises all of which can be considered normal. Many ride to my shop to have me listen to theirs. Some make no noise while others are more noticeable. ADG noise can get better or worst by changing oil, changing oil bands, and oil weights. The key to knowing what norm...
