Re: Windshield replacement

Sometimes aftermarket windshield will melt the dash and causes a sticking speedo needle. Honda had that issued early on and changed something in their windshield design. Some owners here in Florida will always park with something over their windsheild.

Re: Felt like a flat rear tire?

I also checked the ride height actuator and it’s not getting a load until it hit #8 ,,,, How do you check this? The best way to check that is to side stand the Wing. This test is done while not sitting on the Wing. Then, in a quiet garage, turn the key on and lower the susension setting to '0'. Whi...

Re: Felt like a flat rear tire?

The E4s are very dependent on pavement conditions. Some won't use them because of it. I wonder if your wollow was caused from pavement conditions.

Other possibilities are loosness in the suspension.

Re: Start issue

I'm assuming that you mean that the starter will not crankover to start. For that to occur, there are several "lock outs." - put in 'N' - side stand up - not in reverse - kill switch in "on" position - ignition key in "on" position - hitting start button and engine shou...

Re: 2001 GL1800 rough Idle & Stalling

I went and switched the knock sensors and changed the plugs, I also reset the ECM, at least I followed the procedure to reset it. It still is doing the same thing. It is throwing the 25 code. Is there a next step before getting a new ECM? That now means that there are 2 other posibilities ... eithe...

Re: Changing measurement units

To my knowledge, there is no such setting. One of the differances between a Canada and USA version are the dash assemblies. The Canada version has the measurements for Canada, and the USA has the needed version here.

Re: Stuck Engine Hanger Adjusting Bolt

I am in the process of reinstalling the engine in my 2003 GL1800 (long story). I have discovered that the left center engine hanger adjusting bolt is stuck in the frame. It will not thread in towards the engine. It is stuck in the out position. The inside of the bolt outside of the frame where you ...

Re: Anti-dive plunger bolts

I did a front shock rebuild over the weekend, and in the process of disassembly I discovered that the bolts holding the anti-dive valve plunger were seized. I managed to get them loose, but in the process I rounded off the corners of one of them. I'll want to replace both of them, but do I need to ...

Re: Valve clearance check

5th gen GoldWings are probably one of the worst maintained vehicles on the road. The cost to have one professionally maintained is more the $2,000 per 10,000 miles of riding. Most get shined after every ride, and only get oil/filter changes, tires, and brakes when needed.

Honda OEM Part - PGM-FI UNIT
Part Number 38770-MCA-A41

Would I be wrong to assume that if the part number is the same to assume the part is the same?
Thanks

38770-MCA-A41 is for a 2005 USA Wing.

Why do you need to replace the ECM ???

With a nylon pry-bar, remove the right trim strip. Once that is off, use a 5mm allan and remove the 2 bolts that hold the right cover on.

Re: New seat or seat cover?

Many GW owners replace their seat with a custom one, and when that occures they end up storing their old seat. Often if you ask other GW owners, you can find a like new takeoff for a resonable amount of money. Any OEM seat from 2001-10 will fit your Wing. Over the years, I've bought a couple for $50...

Good question and cannot remember but I beleive it depends on the year. Doing the simple testing only takes a second to do, and answering that question and studying the wiring diagrams takes far longer.

On a 5th gen Wing (2001-17) the 'R' on the dash means that the reverse system has been turned on and waiting to be run.

Re: 2014 GL1800 Engine cranks but will not start

Possibly you have a bad kill switch. To test ... start the Wing on its center stand in neutral. Then grab the kill switch button with your fingers and rock the switch forward and aft ... regrab it from its sides and rock the switch from side to side ... then tap on the top of the switch with your pi...

Re: 2001 GL1800 that needs a lot of love

The temp sensor circuit is usually reliable. The sensor has 3 wires going to it. 1 is a common ground for the other 2 wires. On one side is a sensor for the temp gauge and the other is for the PGM-FI system. Occasionally a sensor can go bad, and occationally there can be a harness issue. FYI ... the...

When started and on center stand and in neutral. Rear tire spins and hear a grinding noise, as I give it gas. Any ideas? Would air in the clutch line cause this issue? Ok, so it’s a carbon/sludge build up on the intake valves. Before I do this, if this is the problem, I will run the borescope in the clys and see if I have valve damage and marked pistons. I know the correct method is to pull the heads, I’m still hopeful it’s a faulty coil. Thanks! No ... what I'm ...
