Re: Headlights

By the way.If you cut the blue/white wire in the hi/low switch harness...that kills all the power to the headlights.

Re: Headlights

You might check at your parts breaker(junk yard) for that switch. The Euro wings did have a headlight off switch available. It mounts under the left lever housing. It is not available in the US but the mount is on ALL the Goldwings. A Euro manual would show where it's tied into. It basically cuts the ...

Re: 1981 GL1100 - need help with aftermarket front signals

I got caught once by color codes that were not explained on a LED light. The lamp had just a black and white wire. In my world(vehicles)a black wire is normally ground and white has power. In the world where this light was made (I assume commercial electric) the white was ground..Just like house wir...

Re: 1981 GL1100 - need help with aftermarket front signals

Aftermarket lights. Are they LED or incandescent lamps? Do you have a wiring diagram of the new lights? LED lights will not work (flash)properly with the OEM flasher unit unless there is a load resistor attached to that LED or the flasher replaced with one comparable with LED lighting. Do not assume ...

Re: Fuel Pump Inop??

It does look like a black cube and is in front of the ignition coils. It's suppose to have steady 12 volts on the black wire with the key on/cranking/running.The other wire will have a short pulse on it when the pump cycles and is not easily measured with a digital meter.I saw it best with a test li...

Re: Radio Volume up-down

And yes.The cassette mute switch may be intermittent. Its suppose to pull the mute line to ground.Ungroundedtheres only about 3 volts on that line. Its possible that if the mute switch doesn't completely ground it there may be a bit of voltage on that wire making a partial mute.Just speculating tho. I...

Re: Radio Volume up-down

Not crud yet.
You say it's intermittent but never happens when using the cassette adaptor. This is a good indication that the cassette mute switch is suspect.

Re: Radio Volume up-down

So I gather that's not the problem?
There's other things too that mute the volume. There inside the radio tho.
The first thing I'll guess at is the cassette "in" switch.I found a bypass for that in the radio.Soldering a jumper to bypass it.

Re: Fuel Pump Inop??

The gl1200 fuel pump system is a odd duck indeed. However I did figure it out. The "relay" is a ignition coil activated load switch. It does not continuously provide power for the pump.It switches "on" when there is ignition spark AND when the pump contacts are closed. When running normally,a test l...

Re: Motorcycle wont start because neutral light won't light

Does anyone know where that switch located on 1983 goldwing gl1100. I have same issue neutral light on and no crank no start. The 83 has a neutral switch behind the front cover and a switch on the clutch lever. If your neutral lamp is on and pushing the start button won't crank the engine, you'll ne...

Re: Neutral Light

The switch only gets activated or pushed when in neutral. It's not a gear selector switch, just a neutral indicator switch.

Re: Neutral Light

It's suppose to have no resistance in gear and zero ohms in neutral.
It's a grounding switch.
Power is fed to the neutral lamp and the switch completes the ground to light it up.

I am by no means a expert on the 1800.
I'll ask the first question.
Does it have spark when you crank it?
No spark no fuel.

I just knew that mountimg spot would come in handy for "add ons".
Easy to reach and still keep a hand on the grip.
Maybe I'll redesign just the mount so a variety of things can be attached

Re: Why we're invisible to drivers

I thought of putting on on my bike... Untill I talked to a "motor man" who rode his bike on duty for several years. His honest opinion was that a modulator can be confused with the "go ahead" signal and that many cagers here have been using that flashing headlight to direct traffic (against the law ...

If the old master cylinder was rusted, you might inspect the slave cylinder too.
Keep us posted on the retrofit.
It would be nice to know what does and does not work.Ive got a 88 also.
