Re: No compression on # 1 & 2

Questions.
No compression on cylinders 1 & 2.
Did you pull both heads off and find "bad " intake valves in each one?
We're they bent?
Even that doesn't address the original idle hunt problem so beware of other issues.

Re: No compression on # 1 & 2

This may sound strange but... Remove all the spark plugs.. Put the bike in 5th gear.. Turn the engine backwards several times.. Repeat this every few hours thought the day.. Let it rest overnight.. Compression test the next day. Proven...some 1500's may have sticking valve lash pistons... They pump...

I guess it would take a few hours.
$125-175 labor. Maybe.
You also need a oil change,gasket kit,switch...
Add that all up.

Re: Sudden Loss of Power

The vacuum fuel valve can be replaced with a electric valve or mechanical valve.Just as long as it cuts the fuel supply at the end of the day.
And by the way.The 1500 absolutely can hydrolock without this valve.First hand knowledge about that.

I don't recall but I can guess that a timing marker would not be a dot of paint.

Re: Just a left field question

A very slow turning engine will have difficulty starting. Before you tear that apart, attach a spare plug and see if you have a robust spark. I can make them spark just by moving a screwdriver slowly past the pulse coil. A SLOW cranking has difficulty drawing in the fuel from the jets on the intake cy...

Re: 1981 GL1100 will not run

There is a fuel mixture problem.Too much fuel. This is your first hint."All four intake tubes are very cold to the touch when it's trying to run" When fuel evaporates it gets COLD. Revisit the idle jet circuit.I'm most concerned about using a drill bit to clean the idle jet.You may have opened them ...

Re: My 1985 Goldwing won't start.

Measure battery volts with the key on.It should stay at or above 12 volts.
And stay above 11 volts while cranking.

Re: Fuel pump not working and doing crazy things

The pump is a very large solenoid.Kinda like the starter solenoid.Only this one takes a bunch of power to get it to move. I think a #12 wire fused at 10 amp handles it. As soon as power is applied, the plunger is snapped into the casing opening the points up.This movement operates the diaphragm insid...

Re: Neutral Diode - Questions

On mine, the few perks were. New timing belts Carb modify to overcome the 2500rpm stumble Charging circuit modifications for a stable circuit. More power to the coils (voltage drop problem)to improve spark. Repair to the loud ticking fuel pump to stop it's impending failure. Very accurate rebuild and...

Re: Neutral Diode - Questions

Assuming that you have corrected the original problem... This is cheating but.. Leave the bike in gear(not neutral) Turn on the key. Attach the diode..pull in the clutch lever. If the neutral lamp lights up reverse the diode wires. If the neutral lamp stays off it's correct. In gear you should be ab...

Re: Starter issues and ignition wiring?

A side note. With the plugs in,turn off the spark with the kill switch..Does it still crank badly?
My timing was off and fired the cylinders too early.
Oh..and yes..one could rewire a generic ignition switch if a OEM original can't be found.
You do lose some switch functions tho.

Re: oil in the starter

When you get your "new" starter,I may suggest a complete teardown and cleanup with new grease..Bench test it first and be sure to use that special wrench on the stud bolt to keep it from turning while you torque the cable nut down. I took a old 10mm box end wrench to the grinder to make it thin enou...
