"And many a broken speedometer from it."

...... Urban Legend ...........

Unless the rider was just paying too much attention to the speedo and crashed into a tree..... That could result in a broken speedometer.....

Re: mixture screw adjustment tool

I have tried a few of the of the shelf angle adjusters but none worked to my satisfaction or their cost. So I made my own. It has a closed angle so it is easy to get under the carbs and hold in place. I designed a collar around the screw driver bit to keep it centered on the mixture screw (limiter c...

Re: Left storage pocket cover.

to keep it simple and clean you could use Paraffin wax (candle wax). speaking of clean you could also use a bar of soap. I have use both on snaps and zippers on leather jackets to keep them moving smooth.

Re: No fuel feed when trying to start

OK.... To clear the confusion there are choke butterflys. They can be seen with a mirror in the plenum looking through the screens. There is enough travel in the choke knob to fully actuate the choke butterflys. If it is stiff it could be the friction adjustment..... check this post... https://goldw...

Re: 1983 GL1100A Pulling the motor - any suggestions?

With the engine out it is a good time to check the Pulse Generators (pick ups) and that the mechanical and vacuum advance are working properly. With the engine in the frame the swing arm needs to be removed for access. It is also a good time to clean the pick up screen for the oil pump. This can be ...

Re: Airing up a set of forks question

Do you have a regulator on your air compressor ? If so turn the pressure down to 15 psi and get er done. Some times you just have to shoot the engineer and get on with production !!!

Re: Starter Clutch

When the Pole / Lug on the Rotor passes the Pole on the PG the ignition system generates a spark. When timed correctly this will occur at "F1" ( "F2" for the other PG) crank position.

Re: Starter Clutch

Yes ! That looks much better. For a more accurate "static timing" set the crank to "F1" and verify the poles are aligned. To get any better than that you will need a timing light and a sight plug for the timing port so you can check / set the timing with the engine running.

Glad to hear that you were able to find the problem. Its got to be disappointing to have parts fail after having spent large money for Randakk's kit. I wonder if anyone else has experienced that problem with Randakk's parts ?

Re: Starter Clutch

the alignment pin is not in place. referring to one of your prior post there is a picture which you state the motor is at T1. assuming this is true the rotor lug should only be about 10 degrees past one of the PG lugs. you can always just drop the swing arm instead of removing the motor to correct. ...

Re: Trouble separating front fork slider from tube

here is how i do mine with out a press. just put a block on a wall or garage door jamb at the right height and use a 2x4 for a lever. i put the fork leg in a drain pan. works like a charm.

Re: Throttle Shaft Vacuum Leaks

OK...... I will throw my opinion into the hat. For a hiss to be that loud it is not a small leak around a throttle shaft. And since you are hearing it in the throttle shaft area I think that the small o-ring for the air cut valve cover is missing on that carb.

Re: The old slow jets again....sigh

the idle jets are a #35 which means the jet dia is .35mm which equals .0138 inches. so i have used a .013 diameter string. depending on if you are using heavy or light strings it could be the high E or B. but any wire that is .013 - .0138 will work just fine.

Fixing Flopping Fairing Mirrors.... How I repaired mine

The cause of fairing mirrors to be flopping is the threads (4mm x .7) stripping out of the mirror stem causing loss of spring preload. To correct the problem I oversized the threads to 10-32 and up graded the fastener to NAS1802-3-16. This about doubled the thread engagement / strength and allows pr...
