Re: Dead radio after Reverse

What I would have probably tried is to disconnect the ground cable from the battery for fifteen minutes or so to see if it all reset to normal. Then I would have begun troubleshooting. If it was an electronically stuck switch, that could have cleared it.

Re: Looking for 1800 advice, tough year!

I have to say, I'm one of those guys that always felt I had a "Counter-Brag" to the hard core Harley riders for having a Goldwing all these years that was "Made in America", and I didn't know until today that they stopped making them here! I honestly believe I have to stick to my guns and stay with...

One more thing we have discovered to work up here, is to engage a personal injury lawyer if the insurance company is being difficult. Tell the lawyer what you want and to include his fees in the law suit. Pain and suffering should not be underrated as you were not at fault and so are not dealing wit...

Re: Speaker problem

Check the connections at your battery. They may be just a tad loose. Otherwise, perhaps a loose ground connection which is much harder to track down.

Re: 2010 GL1800 Software and Nav update

Hello everyone! Yesterday I decided to see if I could search for a POI but I found out the soft keyboard turns black and no letter to choose from. Anyone has this problem? Everyone has this problem, even with updates from Garmin as far as I have been able to determine. I believe it was left off the...

Yeah, I think I have bought my first and last brand new Goldwing. Being a senior retired army veteran on a fixed income kind of eliminates $40,000 over six year payments if I wish to eat as well. But they sure is purdy.

Re: Travel luggage recommendations

I have one that looks like these ones. Was not expensive, came with a rain cover in a pocket, meant for the trunk rack, but fits on the back seat in between the drivers and passengers backrests. I do not even need to bungie it on, because the drivers backrest fits in the notch and holds it in place....

Re: Planning my first big trip

The United States has 61 protected areas known as national parks that are operated by the National Park Service, 49 of which are within the contigous 48 states. I would think you are being ambitious about seeing very many of them within four weeks. I spent 13 months and rode 130,000 miles on my larg...

Re: Won't Start

I learned a long time ago to quit being cheap on new batteries. I have a diesel truck that if the batteries get low, the truck will not start, but not only that, will cause a back surge when the start position is releaved, and blow ECM modules. Those for my truck are $1200. Two batteries at $120 are...

The update you are aware of can be purchased directly from Garmin, here: https://goldwing.garmin.com/goldwing/site/viewMapInfo?id=139 If you are handy with your computer, and have the itch to make maps on it, there are many threads on this subject here at Goldwingdocs. A search for any of the terms ...

Re: Shiftless old man in need of advise

My only suggestion would be to get some boots that fit the problem. Most of the off road boot makers like Alpine have a street version. The toe of the boot is not so thick as, say, an engineer or motorcycle cowboy style boot. I am nowhere near your size, but had this same problem with my old Harley ...

Re: Gps

Actually, that is a good question. I spoke with Garmin reps at a Wing Ding in Tennessee, in 2011, and was told that although Garmin would be the one releasing or at least building updates, they would not do this unless Mother Honda asked for and contracted the updates. Shortly afterwards, an update ...

Okay, I understand the nothing less than 18 APH, Greg, but why would the nothing "more" than 18 be in question. I have been putting larger amps per hour batteries in vehicles, including motorcycles, my entire life (live in a cold climate in winter). What is so different about a GL1800 that this is n...

I totally agree with this method of slow speed maneuvering. I practice it every spring in parking lots and couple of times during the year if I happen upon a reasonably empty lot. This is not an original idea that I had. It is recommended by GWRRA. I know not everyone is a fan of that organization, ...

Re: Honda-commissioned Custom 2019 GL1800

I wonder if it's slammed with air suspension. That would explain the low rider look. If it has air, and can be lifted when the bike is moving, then it would have some clearance. I hate the seat, but I like the paint color and the style (F6B). That front wheel ain't my fav either.

Re: Drivers test bike

Did my first driving license test in a 1955 Cheverolet grain truck when I was 14 years old. It was a farm license. I never ever took a license test with a motorcycle. When motorcycle licenses came into being, I was grandfathered, but I had been riding motorcycles for about eight years by then. Befor...

I think what I might do with that is pull the plastic box off and go to the store and buy a cartop luggage carrier and just bolt it on. All done.

Re: buy tires in usa; bring to canada

There would not be duty, unless the Border Agent knew the tires were made in China, in which case there would be a 9.3% duty, plus GST and maybe your provincial tax. Otherwise it is just the taxes. If the tires are made in the USA, then free trade would cover them for duty.

Re: buy tires in usa; bring to canada

I have always found that FortNine.ca, by the time shipping and all is in, cost the same or less than mail order to the U.S. Amazon.ca cannot beat FortNine, and for me, a trip across would cost too much in fuel to make it worth it. I have purchased tires in the U.S. when I was visiting, and as long a...

Re: Rear Brake Pedal Clunk

I would check for something loose or not installed correctly at the rear brake. With that mileage, you should have had a rear tire change, and something may not have been put rightly. Also, there has been a brake recall on the bike, and you could check a dealership to see if it has been done.
