Re: Heat shield for leg

The heat shield I use is called "boots". This would not apply to everyone, because it is dependent on the length of ones legs, I would think, as well as the positioning of the highway pegs. I wear TCX boots that have an armor plate in the front that seems to be my contact point to the cylinder head,...

Re: Compare spyder with Honda goldwing trike

Watched a couple of those videos and the riders were not very objective. One did not even know what he supposedly paid for his Can Am F3. As was stated, if you want to back up in a hurry, the Can Am has it every day. For everything else it appears the Goldwing outshines the Can Am.

Re: Intercom volume

Have you gone through the volume base settings on your radio? Each sound source has it's own settings. I believe they are cycled through by pushing the volume dial, then adjusting the one you want. I cannot check this for sure because my bike is stored for the winter at this time.

Re: May I ask a quick favor...

At home I normally use a large diaphragm condenser (decent ribbon mics are a little out of my price range!). This is an example of her recorded with one: https://www.hollyprather.com/samples/Christmas/15%20-%20Holly%20Prather%20-%20Darcy%20the%20Dragon.mp3 Wow Scott - is that ever clear - like chim...

Re: SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL

Just so everyone knows, in the beginning of 5th gens (2001), Honda was recommending their GN4 conventional oil. But, when they came out with their semi-blend HP4 in 2004, they started recommending that. The bottles back then even had "engineered for goldwings" printed on their labels. By 2007 they ...

Re: GL1800 CB antenna

Of course if I replace the entire thing it doesn't matter. But if I just want to replace the mast, and leave the existing base and wiring intact, then it seems it does matter. The way the mast connects to the base is apparently different, if I understand what I've been reading correctly. Something ...

Re: GL1800 CB antenna

If, by stinger, you mean just the very top piece of the antenna, that's not what I meant. I'm missing the entire antenna, down to the piece that pulls up to fold down the antenna. That's still there. But the entire whip, including the 75 ohm resistor, is missing. I'm seeing both OEM and aftermarket...

Re: I Love Mexican Food!

Why, yes. Yes I do, but most are not chains or only have 2-3 locations at the most. I don’t know anything about Canada’s situation. I was up in Seattle once about 10 years ago. We tried a recommended Mexican place and it wouldn’t make it a month down here in Texas. For one thing, instead of Mexican...

Re: How to update GPS Navi maps without paying Garmin

2.0 was the first version of firmware for these Nav units. There have been a number of updates since then. Learning to update your Navi has a fairly long learning curve, about which you can read if you go through all the threads on it here at Goldwingdocs. Your profile says Canada, but not where in ...

You want snow bikes - they make kits for snowbikes. Not for the faint of heart and probably not up to a Goldwings standards but here are a few:

Re: 2008 GL1800 MP3 Player

I have a J&M. Works fine but locks up occasionally. There is a DVC knockoff of the J&M that can be purchased out of China on EBay for cheap. Some people have loved them, and others have gotten poor units, like pretty much everything out of China. You pays yer money and you takes yer chances. To the ...

Re: Any Difference in Canadian 2012 GL1800 vs US?

Pretty sure the only difference is with radio and Navi functions. Up till 2010, Canada got WX radio and US got XM radio, and the US got a more updated Navigation system, which probably changed in 2012 as all the old crap they put in the Canadian bikes was used up in Marysville. With the 2012, that m...

Re: rear shock

Traxxion Dynamics has an instruction sheet on their web site showing how to rebuild the rear shock and reservoir, using their braided hose, and another showing rear spring replacement. They can be found on this page, one about half way down and the other nearer the bottom. https://traxxion.com/lists...

Re: Antenna

Pretty sure your antenna is for AM/FM radio. The XM Antenna is in/under the dash of the bike, and the NAV is incorporated into the unit. This is my understanding at least. Anyone with more knowledge, please chip in. If you have a CB radio, I would not be snipping that antenna, as a CB is also a tran...

Re: Trike KIt

I never did, but I know someone who did. He was very vertically challenged and in order to even take a GL1800 off its side stand, he needed the tow pac. He liked it because it would hold the bike up at stops, where he could not with only tippy toes touching and then only on one side. He did have dif...

First two things I would look at would be the kill switch and the battery voltage while cranking. Both of those items are too often overlooked with a no start problem and both could cause it.

DenverWinger, I like the framework you have to put your blue canopy in. Do you have a use for it "while camping?" Like, do you use it as a bench to sit on?
