Re: Emgo fuel filter failures

When I got my bike last fall, I did a lot of work on it to get it running. One thing was to change the fuel filter and I did. I have the carbs pulled because I am doing tons more work to it (valve job, head gaskets, water pump, etc) and got a look at the filter since I put it on last September. It l...

Re: Rear brake calipers rebuild

Most likely, somehow you got air in the brake lines. Make sure your master cylinder is full and that it is free of air. The way I did it was to remove the banjo bolt from the top of the master cylinder and slowly press the brake pedal until fluid comes out. Put your finger over the bolt opening and ...

Thanks for the advice. These covers are original and all aluminum. I've buffed them to a nice shine. Just wanna keep'em that way as long as possible.

Re: Bent intake valve

Just my two cents from personal experience, a lot depends on the mileage. Low mileage it might be ok, but there are two things to consider. One, if you have the head off, go ahead and at least lap the other valves and definitely replace valve seals. Second, if you have a higher mileage engine and ta...

Polished Valve covers and timing belt covers

Just wanted to share a bit of the work I am doing on the 82. While I have the heads in the shop and I am in Galveston for the 4th, I brought down the valve covers and timing belt covers to clean up. They were really crudded up and stained. With a lot of elbow grease, I buffed and cleaned them. I ALM...

Front Cover Water Pump pitting

I continue to go through my 82 GL1100. I am cleaning the front cover before I reinstall the water pump and as I have soda blasted off some of the stains and hardend gunk, I see some pitting around the water jacket at the top. I have attached a pic so you can see. What do you guys think would be the ...

Pull the plugs to take the compression off the engine. May make it easier to determine if its really stuck or not.

82 GL1100 Valve job and paint job - Your thoughts?

I took my heads off this week to change out the head gaskets since I was already there changing belts, valve stem seals, water pump, thermostat, etc. They looked pretty good but I took them to get them checked out anyways. Since this bike was given to me last year, I am just taking my time and doing...

82 GL100A tear down and build up

So, I am still working on my 82. Done tons of work to it and still working on it. I have it all apart replacing water pump, timing belts and springs, valve seals, etc. (see list below of things I have done or am doing). The question I have is this... since I have everything off right now and access ...

Re: Timing belt information GL1100 Standard

I guess your going to remove the radiator to do all this work? I think the worse part of the radiator removal procedure was bending those unfortunate tabs down out of the way so you can pull out the radiator. I also loosened/removed the engine crash guards to give me more room. Good luck on it. dc....

GL1100 - Rebuild or buy used

ok, everyone, I need your wisdom. I have everything ready to either take out my engine and rebuild, or look for a used motor. My bike has 128K miles on it and only has about 85psi cylinder pressure in all cylinders. other than that, it runs good and blows smoke on startup only. I have purchased valv...

Re: Timing belt information GL1100 Standard

I am replacing my timing belts soon and I have no idea how long its been since they have been replaced. The bike has 128K miles on it and I got it the end of last year. I think I want to replace the tensioners and the spring while I am in there. Do I need to by OEM tensioners or are there other opti...

Driver Backrest research

Hi all. I am researching a driver backrest for my 82 GL1100A. I am not finding any of the ones that came 'stock', only aftermarket ones. The ones that I see the most is part number 673-816K. I've seen it on several Goldwing websites such as usedgoldwingparts or goldwingcycleparts. Does anybody know ...

Re: How to replace your rear wheel bearings

WingAdmin, Your DIY stuff has been a lifesaver to me. I read through both of your front and rear wheel bearing replacement articles and see that you got your bearings from Partsnmore. I went there and they no longer carry them. Or at least I could not find them. Are there any other good places to ge...

1982 GL1100 Aspencade smokes at startup

I am getting a puff of smoke about 70% of the time when I initially start up the engine when cold. After it run for a few minutes it does not smoke. Bike has 128K Miles on it. I am thinking the valve stem seals are bad. Does this sound right? If so, any good documentation on changing them out? I am ...

Re: 83 GL1100I wont idle

Just had the same issue with my 82'. Ordered a complete rebuild kit and DIY rebuild book from Randakk's and followed it exactly. Crud was all inside the carbs. After I reinstalled it started right up after about two revolutions of the starter. Idles like a dream. Its worth it.

Low pressure light

1982 Gl1100 Goldwing. I just put on a new set of Progressive 416. I used their air lines and such because of the numerous leaks between the compressor and the rear shocks. Anybody know how to turn off the red low pressure warning light? It drives me nuts!

Any help appreciated.
