Re: How do you brake your Wing?

I use 'em both. The bike has linked brakes anyway, so using the rear will also apply the front-left caliper in a limited kind of way, and also applying the front will apply some braking to the rear caliper. But like I said, I use both front and rear as normal operating procedure. me too... I don't ...

Re: Stranded on the side of the road

I am a member of GWRRA and their standard membership includes "Rescue for your motorcycle" then if you want a more inclusive program you can purchase at least two upgraded programs "Rescue Plus and RV Rescue". Now even though I am an officer of our district, I don't have a very good opinion of their...

Re: 2nd Amendment

The thing to remember "IT IS NOT ABOUT GUN CONTROL, IT IS ABOUT CONTROL". I feel sad for the citizens of Canada and Australia now that they have an ANTI GUN GOVERNMENT. I have avoided Canada on three trips so far because I exercise my rights to LAWFULLY CARY A FIREARM and would not take the chance o...

Re: AMSOIL use in GL 1800?

Thats what I found out from my experience with the GL1800 and also from the Honda Rep. Something was changed on the Sprag Clutch springs. They became stronger springs that retain the clutch lugs, I believe, and that difference makes a big difference in the 2009 and newer bikes. I previously had a 20...

Re: How do you brake your Wing?

Using the front brake only will get you into big trouble on the Goldwing. You have a 1000 pound bike and add passengers it could get up to 1400 to 1500 pounds. If you loose traction on the front wheel, you WILL GO Down. I know this as when I first started to ride I was on an 1100cc Honda Shadow and ...

That is interesting as I have never heard anything about this. Next time I talk with my Goldwing mechanic I will have to ask him about it.

Re: How do you brake your Wing?

The best way to know how to brake your Goldwing is take a Safety Riding Class like an Advanced Rider class. then do it every three years after that. It will teach you almost anything you will need to keep safer on the highways. Also by doing it every three years you will not pick up bad habits that ...

Re: AMSOIL use in GL 1800?

I have used Amsoil and another synthetic Brand oil from the time I first started riding motorcycles. What I have found in my experience was that synthetic was almost to good for use in the GL1800. It was giving trouble with the Sprag Clutch not engaging in cooler weather. According to the Honda Rep,...

Re: Safety riding courses......

Just got back from a 1440 mile trip to Missouri and Arkansas this Tuesday. Riding down we had 5 bikes, each two up, most have been riding for a while and are good riders. What I found out was just a few suggestions to one of the riders, who has never or been a long time since taking a riding class, ...

Re: FOR SALE 2001 GL1800

Hi My Name is Ted Shuster, I just bought a 2008 Goldwing, with 2685 miles on in Watertown CT the Sat. after Thanksgiving and rode it home to San Diego in 5 days. I noticed that the speedometer was off about 6 miles per hour, so I am thinking of putting 180/70-16 tire on the rear. After seeing your ...

Re: TPM Sensor - Battery?

Just in case someone is looking for sensors for their factory "TPMS" on the GL1800. I have two, the plastic cases have been damaged/cracked and was broken by a inexperienced tire changer with the bead breaker, but the sensors work. The new cost the last time I looked was over $70 each and that doesn...

Unless the trike (2001 to current) has an air compressor on it the suspension is electric over hydraulic.

Re: AMSOIL use in GL 1800?

..The Goldwings are nearly perfectly engineered engines. I have never heard of anyone having an oil related problem regardless of what they run. IF you change it with a new filter every 3-5 thousand miles I would bet any oil would be fine. I use Rotella Full Synthetic Rated oil with a Super Tech oi...

I have them on the mighty ST 1300, the set up high are turn and stop lights the set on the bags are running lights. I still wasn't happy with the amount of light on the rear so I had a friend add the led strips and put them on a switch I agree, the rear lighting can use all the help you can give it...

Re: Hyper-Lites

Those extra brake lights look interesting, might have to look into it. On a similar note... What do you do or think when you're behind someone and you suddenly see a turn signal flash once, then the other side once, back & forth, etc. etc.. ` If drivers can't see the Hyper-Lites, they shouldn't be ...

Re: AMSOIL use in GL 1800?

I have a 2007 and have been using Amsoil 10w40 Full Synthetic (Metric) for years without any problems. Here in Canada, with varying temps, I find it works great. I use the Honda oil filter. My wing has just over 68,000km.(45,000miles.) No problems with starter, shifting or anything else. :D I think...

Re: Centramatic Wheel Balancers

Well I finally bought a set of these for my Bike and what a difference. I only had 6,000 miles on the original (rim protectors) tires. I did not like the way the bike handled with the original tires. At this time I installed Dunlop elite 4. My wife and I put about 90 miles on the bike after those c...

Re: tpms reset

Went back to shop this morning and after research the mechanic consulted with Honda Dealership mechanic and he said the batteries in the rear tire sensor may be dead as there is a 4 year life on the lithium batteries. My bike is 4 yrs old. They have rear sensor ordered if that works all is well. Ca...

Re: tpms reset

I have had a TPM replaced by a local mechanic and we have been unable to get the light to stay out after programming following the instructions on this sight. The bike is a 2012 GL audio comfort. After reprogramming the light functions as it is supposed to but comes on after 10 miles. Reset several...

My Brother-in-Law was up in Wisconsin on Sunday and it was in the mid to upper 70's, while we suffered, down here in Illinois with morning temp of 30' and finally did get up to mid 60's by 5pm. Too bad as we rode the bikes south and thought it would get warmer. No suck luck, looks like everything in...

Well there has been a wealth of information and suggestions from board members. Thanks for all of them. I finally broke down and bought off eBay a new complete Zumo 660. Got it at what I considered a good price $328 with free shipping. Also bought a sunshield visor and a weather cap. When I received...

Re: SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL

Glad to see some people haven't had any problems. I just know the problems I had and how Honda addressed that problem. They told me they would not cover changing the starter or starter clutch if they could not find a problem with it. That is a very expensive teardown that I would have had to pay for...

Re: Anyone using Hippo Hands?

I had the problem of cold hands in very cool (below freezing) weather also. I had a pair of insulated leather gloves that came with a plastic over-mitt that worked great. The problem was the wind would go through the gloves and my hands would get cold, even with my heated grips turned all the way up...
