Re: Odometer numbers not aligned

Misaligned numbers are a good indicator someone has been in there. My "88 are all lined up perfectly. As an automotive Dealer mechanic years ago I would at times have to reset odometers when needing to be replaced. It was a very tedious procedure to get them lined back up perfectly but one whic...

I think they are on the carb for 88-89 and will have a blue wire connector. 90 and up I believe was incorporated into throttle junction box mounted on frame.

Re: New battery goes dead & LCD is blank.

First and easiest thing I would do is check charging voltages at battery with a meter at both idle and 2k RPM. Then load test battery after a good (not maintainer) external charging. After the load test take note of battery voltage once it stabilizes. Wait a day or two before hooking battery cables ...

Re: Rear tire wobble - with video

Easiest check to make is marking the high or low spot of runout on tire. Rotate tire 180 on wheel and reinflate, if the high or low spot on tire is the same it is a tire problem. The main concern with Shinko tires is poor tread life.

Re: 1993 GL1500 Asp No Power to Fuel Pump

If CB equipped it will have the 4 wire noise filter as part of pump wiring. Check for pump voltage on harness side the blk/blue wire with 4 wire white connector disconnected while cranking. A defective filter can cause the voltage loss.

It is for fuel and turning out will richen mixture. Amount of air going into engine is determined by throttle plate setting.

Am I far off on my thought train? Is it a possible thought train yes, is it probable no IMO. :) Lots of folks are riding around with crumbled sub filter and do not even know it. I think the actual vacuum pull is so slight, just check out the size of the brass tube sleeves in the carb throat, minute...

Re: GL1500 Cruise Control Wiring

The switch contacts get dirty both ON/OFF and momentary causing resistance and might show 12V but it will not pass the amperage needed to engage the unit. I would give odds if the switch were replaced all would be well again.

Re: 1994 Surging Fix - TOOTHPICKS!!

Something interesting happened! I left my 1998 SE in a hot Texas garage for four months, and when I returned it would surge at idle and low speed performance was very poor. I put toothpicks in the carbs in June of 2020 at 68,800 miles and all was good; however, my fuel economy went down about 5 mpg...

Re: Can someone tell me

Stray electrical currents on antiquated equipment with solid state components is a possibility in circuitry. Incandescent lighting does provide a ground path for these anomalies and is the reason I would not change every bulb over to LED which I think does not provide that pathway to ground. I did c...

Re: HELP No fuel to fuel bowls (On the road repair?)

Well, if it has fuel pressure from the pump reaching the carbs and the probability of both float valves failing simultaneously not allowing fuel into the carbs being about nil. The only other thing in the pathway of fuel would be the inlet screens of float valves being plugged is a long shot but has...

Just a little rearward and below the engine oil dipstick is the one wire reverse switch. Remove the wire and on the wire stud check for continuity to ground with reverse lever down in forward position. They can get stuck over time, if no continuity to ground remove and spray some carb cleaner on the...

Been out of town for a few days. Paseandoconhonda has been steering you right. :) The schematic does show 5 diodes, match schematic wire colors to what you have and see which one is missing, would be a clue if that one has to do with your problem circuit. Your "89 might have changed to 4 diodes...

Re: Bike Starts in Neutral But Dies When Put Into Gear

You mention earlier that it will not start in gear with clutch pulled in. I would attack the problem from that angle, it would be easier to concentrate on one particular circuit, fix that and everything else should fall into place. The diodes are at the back of the bike R/side in a rubber boot just ...

Re: Bike Starts in Neutral But Dies When Put Into Gear

Does the bike lurch forward when it stalls? Try leaving on center stand so rear tire is off ground to see if it still stalls with no brakes applied. Any recent work done prior to this symptom? When it stalls check that the cruise ON light in the dash does not blink off.

So yeah. Manual says its supposed to click with ign. On and press the start button The correct way to test the reverse relay is found in the factory service manual. Clicks when key is turned to ON no starter button involved as shown in my diagram posted previously. Ditch whatever manual u are using.
