Re: Help: Radiator fill cap hose

FYI:

Once I got the false tank off, I have never put the 2 front bolts back in. This was 15 yrs ago. Never a problem while riding.
Now all I have to do is remove the seat and then take the 2 bolts at the rear off.

I also never put the bolts on the seat.

Re: Air sound

Put the gas cap in a container of distilled white vinegar overnight. If it is not the cap-- It will be cleaned and the air hole will be open.

Gas tanks are the only thing on these bikes to make a swish sound,

:D :D Welcome to the forum :D :D

If it does not affect the bike do not worry about it.
Probably the gas cap getting rid of air in the tank.

Re: Starter on a 1983 GL1100 Interstate

If it is the starter you can rebuild it or take it to an alternator shop and they usually work on starters. Then if the wire in there gets broke- They know how to fix it well. Usually cheaper than you think. Even if it is not the starter it would not hurt to refurbish it while you have it out. New b...

Re: No fuel flowing from fuel tank

Welcome to the forum.

Before you try to start it again. You should replace the timing belts. They have sat for 27 yrs in the same spot. And they are probably 37 years old. They will look good but do not lose your engine over some belts.

Re: GL 1100 Ignition Question

On my trip to Alaska on a GL1100 (10.600 miles) I took an extra clutch cable, brake pads, and Oil filter. Never ever thought anything about my ignition.

Water Pump or Thermostat?

Was looking to change the anti freeze on my GL1100. Had the engine running for 15 mins or so. The fan came on and temp gauge half way up. I had the radiator cap off and watched the water in the neck of radiator. It never circulated. Do I have a thermostat problem or do I have a water pump problem? H...

I put 4-5 oz of ATF in every other tank of gas. Helps keeps the carbs lubed.

Re: So I'm a moron....Gl1100 timing belt

The one that moves.. Put the belt on the # of teeth that moves. release the clamps and see if the movement lines up correctly.

Sorry I can't type what I'm a thinking.

Put the belt on not correctly lined up. However far it moves on you put the belt on .

Re: cylinder head cover bolts

I cut the old rubber off. As suggested elsewhere I used a heat gun to make the new rubber more elastic. Pushed the new rubber on with a socket that fit the rubber. Heated and pushed right on.

81 Rear wheel spacer

We are working on an 81 wing. We took the rear tire and wheel off. Putting it back on I believe we are missing a spacer between the caliper bracket and swing arm.. We cleaned the entire room and no spacer found. Looking at the part manual for this bike there is no spacer in the book. Hence no part n...

:D :D HeavyArmor Welcome to the forum. :D :D Make sure to look at the top of any page is the 'how 'to's." Will give you some good ideas. Your pictures show a total mess. Do what AZ gl1800 said to do. If you find the stator is bad, put a poor boy alternator on it. After you clear all the gremlins out...

If age of timing belts is unknown REPLACE them.

Welcome to the site.

I would sync the carbs before tearing anything apart.

Make sure to review The HOW TO'S at top of any page.

Welcome to the forum.

I do not believe The aspencade had one. They were more digital and did not need a volt regulator.
I may be wrong and someone will be along soon.
