Re: Tank Bags for a GL1800

I used to keep mine strapped to the rack on top of the trunk with the hose just hooked on my jacket for when I needed a drink. Going across the Mojave it got used quite a bit.

Re: Starting issue

It could also be the switch on the clutch lever, and when was the last time the lever bushings were cleaned and greased. Sometimes the bushings wear and cause this issue.

Re: Fred Harmon's DVD Maintenance Videos

I had Progressives and now traxxion springs but I measure my oil level at the center of the fork tube. Whether angled or straight up the center of the fork tube gives the same reading.

Re: Aspencade Neutral problems

When I got my 86 it used to do the samething. I Bled the clutch ,greased the lever pin and bushing and finally took the slave apart. Even though I bled the clutch and had clean fluid coming through, there was a jelled hunk of brake fluid and water keeping the piston from totally running its full leng...

Re: Accessories opinion

When It comes to the wing if youre going to travel might as well be comfortable ,right! Ive got a Wingsoft large on mine which puts me 1 in up and 2 inches back and thats just enough to make my knees more comfortable on long trips. I didnt mind the stock seat except my knees started to ache because ...

Re: Suspension harshness

You could also go with Progressive monotube cartridges similar to Traxxion but a lot less costlier. But i would check the oil level in that fork tube it almost sounds like there is too much. What I did on my 07 I disabled the anti-dive valve with a custom made shim and added Traxxion springs. My late...

Hair conditioner ,one for the wives

Heres a question for some of the wives who ride or are passengers. My friend she has long hair and sometimes we ride without helmets. Well her hair is long enough it hangs down her back even with a helmet. She was wondering if some of the wives or girlfriends could chime in with what they use for co...

Re: Removal of Accessories

I would try parking it out in the sun midday for a few hours and then try to remove them. Thats what I did with my chrome trim with lights that mounts on the radiator. I wound up getting them loose but you have to wiggle, pull, and generally try not to break them as the plastic is more brittle due to...

Re: Runs rough after refueling

I wonder if possibly you have a plug wire or wires going bad from age. The other thing thats coming to light is the ECM on 2001 to 2005s are starting to go bad from age after reading the forums. I wonder if this is a symptom of whats coming.

Re: Fuel odor

Overfilling can cause the odor and I wonder if the fuel vent hose is routed correctly from the tank. Ive seen guys put the top shelter on after doing some work and not really doublechecking to make sure its routed right . So that might be worth a look also.

Re: Spark Plug for 08 1800

I get mine at Advance auto. I signed up with them and get 20% emails all the time so theyre cheaper than Honda. We also have a chain of stores here called Farm and Fleet and they have the plugs priced reasonably besides having a lot of great cleaning products for bikes also. I tried the Iridiums and...

Re: Fully Restored 1989 Honda GL1500SE For Sale

Sadly I have to agree with John I have a friend who deals in used 1500s and since the new 1800s came out the old 1800 prices have dropped and made the market soft for 1500s.

Re: Engine protection plate

I thought about it long and hard when I first bought mine. What I wound up doing instead is I bought some aluminum and made a cover for the bottom of the overflow tank for the coolant. With all of the wings on the road and over all of the years you hear very few stories about issues from road debris...

Re: Long distance trailering?

There was a couple some years ago on the forums, cant remember if it was this one or another. They trailered a gl1500 home with a cover and the cover basically beat the bike up. From the wind whipping it around it scratched and beat up the paint and finish on the bike. Ive trailered one on an open tr...

Re: Rake Kit - How do you know you have it

Also you can look at the clearance between the back of the fender and the cowl . With the front tire straight if you can put your fist longways between you have a raked front end. A stock front end has very little clearance between the 2. The trick is figuring out how much of a rake you have if your...

Re: BEST FRONT TIRE FOR GL1800 TRIKE

In the 12 years Ive owned my trike and with the miles Ive ridden I found the Avon TRIKE tire to be the best for handling and ride. I tried the BT 45 and the Michelin and yes theyre cheaper and you get more miles but to me the ride is harsher or due to the tread design one of them has a buzz. Ive got...

Try Jim Murphy over here. They were making disc brake conversion kits for older drum brake Lehman trikes with similar rear ends.

Re: Ipod

Ive tried an Ipod on mine the only thing I found the Ipod didnt have enough volume. I wound up putting a Boostaroo and that solved the issue. I used the Ipod cross country and it was great alternative.
