"And many a broken speedometer from it."

...... Urban Legend ...........

Unless the rider was just paying too much attention to the speedo and crashed into a tree..... That could result in a broken speedometer.....
Whatever you say boss

As for speedos breaking when pegging the needle, isn't the internal linkage magnetic which might save the breaking?

The 85 mph speedos were born in the era of the '70s oil crisis, pollution controls, and 55 mph national speed limits. Mostly summarized as government overkill, over regulation, and ignorance. Cars of the era also had 85 mph speedos.
And many a broken speedometer from it.

I didn't realize you had them made and yes most likely an injection mold.
Are they in Illinois? I met a wing rider a few years ago that had an injection mold business there

Re: Charging system

How have you tested the voltage readings and what are your resulting volt readings?

You say it has a rebuilt alternator, who rebuilt it?

What battery is in the bike?(people put all kinds of batteries in these wings, some good, some cheap not good)
Brand?
AGM or a wet cell?
Date it was new?

Howdy Drew440 and welcome to the forum. You did find yourself a great bike there. And yes, the coast there is some of the best riding in the USA! Be sure to turn the petcock to off when you get off to prevent any fuel leaks while it sets. They have a tendency to do that, sometimes, and hydrolock the...

"Controversy Alert - I did not completely dis-assemble the rack because it didn't have fuel leaks and I didn't want to mess with all the linkages and rubber bits in the various fuel passages. " This is your problem. Your choice was not a good choice. You have to totally disassemble the rack and carb...

Re: Can we start a CURRENT car tire thread? What is available?

I don't understand why the Austone tire is discontinued when there are 100's of taxi's that take that size tire are still in service. UK still has a supplier but we can not ship them to the US. Motorcycle tires are shipable. Dunlop has become the go to tire for the English taxi. Finding an importer...

the sensors for the '84 are on the back of the motor
It's not a pulse generator. It's a vacuum ignition advance like the gl1100 had.
I don't know if you can wire it in, replacing the PG on your 85, or not. It's been too long since I've kept up on the 1200s.

Re: 2019 GoldWing

My 08 is paid off and at just 123,000 miles, so it has lots a life in it still. I did ride a 2018 DCT Tour last week after installing a hitch on it. My friend said it has a full tank so go as long as you want. I had my doubts about riding it but was pleasantly surprised riding it, I put 40 miles on ...

I found this Aspencade just after sending a deposit on an 08 1800, so I ended up selling the Aspencade a year later to a couple from AZ who came over with a Uhaul trailer and loaded it up. It sold for $6300.

Re: Changing Timing Belts

Well done Al on the belts. They are a great bike. I bought my second 99, after the demise by cager of my beloved 99SE in 2013, a 99A with only 17,500 miles on it but had been neglected from the original owner getting sick @12 years earlier. It was my healing project so I slowly went all through it. ...

Did you spray in electrical contact cleaner and then blow the crap out, respray then push together and apart several times to work loose any oxidation and respray again?
Is the connector broken maybe?
