Re: For Sale - 1999 Goldwing SE - 19,375 miles

I asked how old they are. Not how many miles are on them. Do you have the records of when they were put on?
And when was the bike serviced and run regularly?

A mighty fine bike you have there.
How old are the tires? The front looks like a Dunlop E2 or E3?

I have not seen any writeups in the past 10 years being on 3 different wing forums to remove it. Lots of complaints yes, but nothing if anyone could remove it. Yes it is intrigual to the LCD screen to work.

This is a Goldwing site. You might do better asking a Silverwing site.

Polished aluminum looks great but is lots of work to keep it 'polished' especially to bring it back.
I went to powder coat a few years ago and it is a breeze to clean.

Blue. It’s 100% oil. I’m not loosing any coolant and the carb is not flooding the cylinders
Valve guide seals

How do I replace those? Pull the head? Know of any guides?
Typically yes. They are under the valve springs

Re: Rebuild engine or replace?

Also possible is the cam cover gaskets leaking oil onto the headers burning off.
Or the header donuts leaking exhaust out when cold and sealing as the header metal expands as it heats up. Loose header nuts are a telltale.

Re: Rebuild engine or replace?

Well I'm just trying to piece together the history of your bike. You haven't given the full history of it's life in your posts. You say it "had almost 40,000 miles on it". Is that a mistype and should be 'has almost 40,000 miles on it'? If so, that is a very low mile 82 and the rings should be fine ...

Re: Honda GL1100 interstate rebuild

As to the carbs...82 and 83 are the same. Do Not buy 80/81 carbs for it(they have pressed in jets rather than screw in jets).
If the gas tank is not leaking you can de-rust it using the electrolysis cleaning method without removing the tank.

Re: Rebuild engine or replace?

Getting all the parts necessary to do a proper rebuild on these is going to be near impossible. Too many discontinued parts. The rings could be stuck if the bike sat a long time on the side stand and gas leaked into the cylinders gumming the rings or water in the cylinders(which would be rust and re...

Re: Rebuild engine or replace?

I would suggest that you make it a habit to always park the bike on the Center Stand for a few days or whatever. Then see IF it actually smokes from the left side. What you are describing is a common phenomena with our bikes, even my '94SE was the same way. leave it on the side stand overnight, and...
