Re: Starting issue
Have you cleaned the sidestand switch?208wrenchman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 8:04 amI wish I knew what fixed it, but I am thinking it was the sidestand switch. It is very touchy in its position.
Or cleaned out and greased the sidestand pivot bolt?(very necessary maintenance item- full disassembly)

Re: Starting issue
Thanks everyone that gave me answers to this problem. After the the bike was serviced, oil and filter and air filter changed. The bike was on its kickstand (indicator illuminated), in neutral (indicator illuminated) and clutch out it started. So I don't have an issue any longer. What fixed it then?...

Re: Painting a GL1100
How about a picture and model of this mini spray gun you mentioned Welcome to the madness. Painting is quite addictive. Painted my 1500 this past spring, 3 part system - Pearl Glacier White - base coat, pearl, clear - did the trim as well. Just finished painting my '85 Limited Edition, two tone - go...

Re: Air suspension???
First off if you have the single Showa air shock and the other is the coilover shock then yes at 89 you probably have blown the seal in the air shock. The manual says more like 50 psi max on the Showa. If you have Progressive brand replacement air shocks,(??? You didn't say what you have on the bike...

Re: Painting a GL1100
Hello all, I'm glad to have joined the forum. Good stuff on here! I'm a new owner of an '82 GL1100 Aspencade. It is currently Sorrell brown. For all of you that have painted your bikes, I have two questions: First- How much paint did you actually need? I plan on a basecoat/clearcoat system, but I c...

Re: replacing stator
I am not yet 100% sure it is the stator. I did take a multimeter and disconnect the negative cable and then measured the amps which came back as .01 which would tell me there is not a constant draw on it. I took the battery off, recharging it and when I get it started back up will put the multimete...

Re: 1984 1150 GL Turn signals slow to come on
You may also need to clean your turn switch. The contacts get dirty.
On the flasher, just get an electronic flasher at an auto parts store to replace the old thermal type flasher, that way if you or someone wants to put in LED turn bulbs(saves draw on the stator) they will flash at the correct rate.

Turn signal flasher is under the shelter on left side.
BTW you have a gl1200 if it is an 84. Not a gl1150(no such animal).
1983 was the end of the gl1100.

Re: 2008 charging circuit have a fuse?
Greg Yes I have a local guy I talked with on Monday that has worked on these and knows the alternator is the same as the Civic and has brushes and bearings on hand. And yes I won't use an aftermarket alternator because of the post you were involved with(?) on an 06 that destroyed the ADG. But at thi...

Re: 2008 charging circuit have a fuse?
I live 3 miles down a dirt/gravel road. Every time I go out for a ride I get 6 miles of dust. The Wing is a dust vacuum under all the plastic. With that, I usually do a dusting of the alternator, wheels, underneath and the dash/switch buttons with compressed air at days end back at the house. When ...

Re: 2008 charging circuit have a fuse?
Update! I started checking things, fuses, wires, blew out all the dust under the seat and then around the alternator... Then the old thought came to mind.....tap on the alternator...sure enough...It is a sticking brush(es) in the alternator. Back to charging again for now. I have a call in to an alt...

And to add to that there have been folks that have taken the dressed parts off the Aspencade and Interstate and made them look like a naked Standard so vin identification is necessary.

Re: gl1000 and gl1100 gas tanks
I'm pretty sure the frames are the same on the 1000 to 1200 so, the tanks should fit unless they did some changes that I don't know. I don't think they are interchangeable between models. There were 2 different gas tanks on the 1000. The early ones have a drain bolt. The 1100s have a different tank...

Re: 2008 charging circuit have a fuse?
If the cruise control fuse is blown, it will not charge. Check the cruise light on the dash, if it is not on with the cruise switch on, you may have a short in the harness running up the handle bar risers or around the headstock. If the fuse is blown, turn off the cruise, replace the fuse, then see...

I saw last night a couple YouTube on removing but nothing on testing them. I don't have $650 to throw away if it is something else... I hadn't heard that Ken H had passed. Bummer. I've recommended him many times over the years. There was a rebuilder here in Pahrump, but the shop he worked at closed ...

Re: 2008 charging circuit have a fuse?
No 1800 experience here, but if you can measure power on the back of the alternator at the main terminal whatever fuse link the 1800 has is good. Then measure power on the small (excite) lead to the alternator, that should have power with key "on". I can't imagine an 1800 alternator not being repai...

Re: Tank Bags for a GL1800
Yes. The woman that makes the harness found that there was no advantage to buying and shipping the jugs. They are readily available at many stores (B&M or online). Just tell MotoJug which jug you are going to use and they will make accordingly. My daughter bought a Coleman one gallon jug to go with...
