Re: tires

As said, been a while so not up on the newer tires for the 1500. I didn't like the looseness on wet of the E3s and had gone to the darkside before trying another brand of mc tire on the rear of the 1500 before it's demise by cager and getting the 1800 to replace it. I had been studing the darkside d...

Re: tires

I hadn't tried a runflat on a 1500. I don't recommend a nonrunflat on a 1500. I tried 2 different nonrunflats and didn't like the squirliness in corners, above 80 was not good. Even put one I had taken off one 1500 and put it on a low mile(17,500) 1500, and had the same results. And on the grooved c...

Re: tires

It is false information that says you have to have the matching tire front to back in sets. I've been running different brands since the 70s and haven't crashed and burned. And I play hard on my wings in the twisty rides. I'm not on a 1500 any longer (5yrs on my 08 now) I don't think I want to, but ...

Re: tires

Michelin stopped making tires for wings years ago so you won't find one for the rear. Ride-on is the sealer balancer. Will it stop the leak? Depends on what the leak is from and where. Ride-on only will stop a leak in the center 3"-4" of tread, not the sides or rim or valve stem. You need to find th...

Re: Seat/saddle rental or try before you buy?

Stew
Unfortunately no rentals of seats out there, but as Andy said there are return refunds offered by some of the seat manufacturers.
Most folks that have reported the likes of the Ultimate brand and the Russell brand seats have high reguards for them.
Check their websites.

Re: LED Driving lights

You can also mount clamps on the crash bars to mount lights to.

http://wingstuff.com/products/24917-l-b ... bar-clamps

I had clamp brackets on my 83 gl1100 crashbars.

Re: LED Driving lights

There used to be brackets available for under the gl1100 fairing to mount driving/aux lights but most are discontinued. Other than finding a used set, you would have to fabricate brackets or drill into the fairing under the vents.

These are some pictures I downloaded of gl1100s with driving lights.

Re: Darkside tire change

Not as tall. I prefer the run flats for stiffer sidewalls but they don't offer them taller than the 195/55-16. Well, it's taken a couple of years, but I'm ready for a new rear tire. I'm currently running an Austone and it is finally getting close enough to the wear bars for me to start thinking of r...

Re: Darkside tire change

So is this on your 1800? If so, start a new topic labled for the 1800. Just so you don't get wonkered answers as the 1500 handling of a DS sneaker is far different from the 1800 characteristics. Just about all of this tread is 1500 related. Well, back to Darkside tire change for a question for alla ...

Damn, the wheelbase on that thing! It's got to be at least a foot longer than my '77 GW.
Yes the 1500 is longer than your 1000. You can put your 1000 in an enclosed 8' trailer if needed. A 1500 and up you'll need a 10' trailer. Yes @a foot longer.

The transmission is still within the engine case on the 1500s and 1800s.

Re: Polar Vest Phase Change Cooling Vest

Yes the rain liner would be better than the mesh jacket as any hot wind in the vest will melt the packets faster than wearing a soild jacket will. I wear mine under my leather jacket to keep the heat out. Sounds like the Polar Vest, and the Glacier Tek are very similar. I used the 59°F as a statemen...
