You can get a reverse gear on a Hardley, powered by the engine and clutch instead of the starter. Never seen one, don't pay that much attention to Harley anyway.
But not on some of the new model hardiles.

Yours is made in Japan. Everything today is from China and subject to early failures.
Ken will rewind it to put out more than you'll need and last far longer.

If it is a pre 1996 yes they are worth rebuilding and can also be upgraded.
Ken Hemmings rebuilds and upgrades the output if desired. He has high reguards in the wing forums for the quality of his workmanship.

Re: Trunk adjustment

They are a fixed location. But you can make bars to bolt to the subframe and thread new location holes. I've read posts on other wing forums of others making a setback this way. Here is how the subframe looks on the top where the trunk sets. There are 4 bolts holding the trunk to the frame. Get a 1"...

Also, try holding it shy of 12 o'clock and push the start button. If it works you top switch behind the lever needs replacement or you have a bad ground. There are 2 main gound blocks in the harness, at knee area, under the shelter, against the frame, wrapped in tape in the harness, orange connector...

When you pull the lever up, do you first pull out to release the lock pin, then up and then back in when at the 12 o'clock position?

Re: VTX 1800

I am new to the Honda riding world. I've had two hip replacements and it's difficult for me to ride on a lower bike. I owned a HD Wideglide but was very heavy. I tried sitting on a Goldwing but the shifter and brake pedal are very close to the block motor. A VTX is higher off the ground and l can a...

Re: Ever got rid of a bike you wish you hadn't?

This is the one I miss. I sold it in 1983 needing money for my growing family while we were living at the mother in laws in Vegas, sold it to a younger kid. I bought it new, a 1976 K6. It had 45,000 miles on it when I sold it. My hound, Cody had 35,000 miles on it, local and 5 trips cross country li...

No.

The Allballs steering bearings, Are not balls.
They use tapered roller bearings to give long contact surface areas.

Re: 1800 Fork seal replacement, Model with Air bag

Being the left seal....
Get on the bike, hold front brake and try to bounch the forks... Do they move???
If not then the antidive valve is bad. You can put a new one on or you can put a shim in it to stop it from operating so you don't blow the seal again.

Well I haven't been on goldwingfacts.com since they sold to the mc forum giant and can't access it anymore but there was a guy that put a later engine in his early 1500 because of a bad tranny and used his early carbs and had to deal with plumbing differences, might have been the emissions tubes? I've read posts on another forum of putting later years on the early 1500s. I think they had to redo the vacuum lines at minimum. I'll see if I can find a link

The only thing different is you have to remove the airbag sensor on the right fork leg. Disconnect the negative lead on the battery first.

Re: 2018 Goldwing

Has that been all at once on the highway or broken up?
I ask as I ride cross country NH to Oceanside yearly, towing my trailer. Like to find out if there is enough savings on fuel mileage at 80 and above as most highway traffic is flowing at that.

Just shy of 8000 miles on it. Get 260 miles/tank in town, 275-290 on hwy. Great power and handling. GPS is better with up...

Re: "stuttering" during initial running

For a reason you need to answer the questions. There have been problems of this on certain years. The gl1800 was a 16 year run with changes in different years. Start bike, back out of garage, go about 1/2 mile and bike "stutters" with a rough idle. Immediately clears up and runs fine the rest of the...
