Re: Temp Issues

The fan seems to come on when it should according to the gauge. The other day it was 85 and I was riding on some country roads. If I was going north the gauge was as low as it goes. I turned east and it went up about a quarter of the way. If I'm going fast it always drops all the way down. Not sure ...

Temp Issues

So last fall my bike started to seem to never warm up according to the gauge. I replaced the thermostat. The old one didn't seem stuck. The needle does move but only if I'm sitting stopped. Could it be the temp sender? I ride the bike and it seems to cause no issues. I feel a lot of heat coming off ...

Re: Final Drive flange

I put oil on it laying flat and let it soak overnight. After that I pried on it with all my might. It finally popped out and went flying past my face! Got the bike back together now after sitting for almost two weeks!

Final Drive flange

Does anyone know how to remove the final drive flange from the wheel? I'm replacing my back wheel and it came with the flange removed. I've spent hours trying to pry it out. I have no idea how it comes off. Thanks for any help!

Re: Fairing swap

Find a Vetter with a bracket. They are much better. The fiberglass is thicker and much more durable! You can get them cheap because so many are being removed to make café bikes.

I would be trying to figure out where the coolant went! These were the thermostats Placerville posted. I got mine at Advance. NAPA #101

Re: How Do I remove this?

Ok, Last night I put the bike on the center stand. This is not easy. I have to back the bike onto a strip of plywood with another strip on top of it so it's like stairs. I suspect my bike sits a bit low because of the Vetter luggage. Anyway it started much easier and made zero smoke. I normally have...

Re: How Do I remove this?

Thanks! As always I appreciate the help. I run resistor caps and they are brand new NGK's. What happens is when it's cold like 50 or less I pull the choke out and hit the start button. The bike starts for a second then dies. Once that happens it will crank for a long time then start again but run ro...

How Do I remove this?

I have had my bike a little over three years now. When I first got it I replaced the belts. The bike still starts only after a long crank when it's cold so I decided to adjust my valves to see if that's the problem. Behind the 17mm cover you remove to turn the alternator bolt is what I believe to be...

Re: Windjammer Windshield Height

I think what windshield you use should depend on what you use your bike for. I'm only 5'8" and I had the standard vetter ws on my bike. It was great around town. When I took long trips the wind hitting the top of my helmet gave me a sore neck. So I put the tallest one I could find on there. Problem ...

Re: Thermostat

Well, Replacing the thermostat wasn't too bad of a job. The bike warms right up now. Runs good. Now I'm having issues again with the wire splices that connect the vetter harness. I'm going to just solder them all the next time we have a warm day and I'm not working.

Re: Center stand woes!

My GL1000 won't go up either. The 1100 I had would go up like in the video. It takes three strong people to get a 1000 on the center stand! Very very poor design IMO!

Thermostat

I just went to my local bike repair guy to see if he could sell me a new thermostat. He said take it out! I said why? He said they run better without them. I said well mine is stuck open. He said then leave it. This guy is well respected. What do you guys think?

Re: 1977 GL 1000

I had an old Kawasaki once that did that. Someone told me it could be a cracked coil. I looked at the coil didn't see a crack. Put the coil from my parts bike on and that cured it.

Cabin Fever

So we have had over 4 feet of snow in northern Illinois. More days below zero than I can count. So I sit on my bike and make engine noises with my mouth until I have to wipe it off yet again! How do you cure cabin fever?

Re: gremlins in a '78 gl1000

My bike had a lot of bad rewiring when I got it. I kept patching things until I had a garage fire a year ago. That forced me to replace everything. First thing I would do is solder and shrink tube the three yellow wires. If you find any of those blue clip on wire splices get rid of them by soldering...
