Re: 85 1200 LTD

Awesome. Thanks for the input. Hope in the next week or so to be able to take the engine out and then replace the stator. Then it's time to keep working on those switches.

Thanks again,
Roger

85 1200 LTD

I have searched several websites to no avail. I am wondering if removing the engine from the 85 LTD is the same as a normal GL1200? I already know that I need to replace the stator on this one and don't want to do the poor-boy conversion. I know that sounds crazy to not do that, but I want to keep i...

Re: Somewhat interesting problem

Just figured that it would be cheaper to replace the Regulator rectifier than to spend the 1800 on the stator.

Re: Somewhat interesting problem

Yes the wires have been connected. Have to get some money together to get the reg/rectifier. As soon as I have that hopefully will solve the problem. So now
It's a waiting game.

Re: 85 LTD Stator Issue

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have decided to replace the regulator/rectifier first and see if that solves the problem. If not I am going to have to drop the engine and replace the stator since I want to keep it original. One thing I forgot to mention is that I am not running any extra lights. ...

85 LTD Stator Issue

Hey guys, Okay here is my problem. Bought a 85 LTD back in March. Ran fine for about a week. Since then my battery has been draining when running tail lights or headlight. The battery is not recharging. Took it to a Honda dealer and they informed me that the stator is bad. Which is what I had alread...

Re: Somewhat interesting problem

Thank you for the advice. Well, I was incorrect, it is not the fan motor that keeps draining the battery. I have determined that I am going to have to look at replacing the regulator/rectifier or the stator. If it turns out to be the stator, I will probably have to take it to a shop to have it looke...

Somewhat interesting problem

I have an 85 LTD that I am having an issue with. I have replaced the battery with a new one and have pulled it out charged it completely, had a load test done on it and still having the same problem. Here is the issue: When running with completely charged battery runs fine until the motor gets "warm...

Re: 1985 LTD New Owner and couple problems

So here is a new problem. I can start the bike up but then after running for about three or four minutes she starts to run difficult and not charge the battery per the volt meter on the dash. I am going to be taking the fairing apart today and trying to trace the stator wires. Then I will replace th...

Re: 1985 LTD New Owner and couple problems

Thanks for the help. Can I put all five together and make one connection? Guess I just answered my own question. That would be bad. Would it be wise to replace the wiring with 12 gauge wire?

Re: 1985 LTD New Owner and couple problems

Okay, took the bike out this weekend and put about 300+ miles on it on Saturday. No problems whatsoever. Went on a "short" run today about 45 miles away and once got there, had to get a jump to get the bike going again. I didn't think much of it, but was a little concerned since I have heard about t...

Re: 1985 LTD New Owner and couple problems

Sorry this took so long to make a reply. I only have dial up at home. The radio works with a tape in it but not able to tune with the controls on the left handlebar. I think that if I take the switches apart as suggested, I'm hoping that will fix the problem. I checked the fuse in the left front poc...

1985 LTD New Owner and couple problems

Hey guys and gals, Well I am the proud new owner to a LTD and so far am loving it. I plan on changing out the oil today or tomorrow. Had to get the filter from NAPA. The local Honda dealership is not really very helpful. Okay onto the details. After getting it home and cleaning up the dust, I have f...

Re: 85 LTD new owner

Hello All!!! I also am soon to be the new owner of an '85 Limited. Boys does that sound strange. First of all the bike has almost 64,000 miles on it and has not been ridden in the last two years. It was started last year and ran for 20 to 30 minutes to make sure it still "worked". My question is sim...
