Re: Cruise Control light constantly on
Nice! Enjoy your new-to-you ride. Yes, call your local Honda dealer and give them the VIN to see if all the recalls have been done, including the rear brake recall and frame inspection.

Re: Cleaning the rims.....
This, I suppose depends on what you consider "looking good". If you use the steel wool or the aggressive Scotchbrite pads, you'll end up with a dull finish. To that end, you might as well use the aluminum and mag wheel cleaner which requires minimal work, but leaves a dull finish because it etches t...

Re: GL1800 CB antenna
I would recommend that you replace the whole thing. If you buy the wrong part and try to match it to the existing base, all bets are off, and you risk the chance of not being able to tune it once it's all together. The length is critical on CB antennas to perform properly.

Re: GL1800 Start Issue
When you changed the air filter, you most likely had to move things around and unplug others to get to the airbox. I'm afraid that after you try the "easy" stuff, you'll have to take off the top shelter again and check all of those connections and plugs. Don't put it all back together until you have...

Re: Installing a whelen Lin3 or tir3
If I'm not mistaken, some states require such a strobing light to either go solid-on, or to stop flashing and turn off after 4 seconds. I built a time-out timer that cuts the power to the TIR3 after the 4-second time out. If I reapply the brakes, the timer starts all over again.

One technique that I have HEARD of (not actually used) is to drill out the hole where the threads are slightly oversize, and fill the hole with JB WELD... ---BUT--- do not let it harden until you put the screw back in the hole.... ---AND---first you spray or coat the screw with silicone lubricant an...

Re: need gps suggestions
Sorry I'm late on posting. I've been on the road at several trap shooting events. I WAS a long time Garmin user. Got tired of them dropping support after a few years forcing an upgrade to a newer model. I have a gps in my tundra, but Toyota is no better than Garmin or Honda. Now I use my iPhone and...

Re: need gps suggestions
Look for a referb Zumo. They are waterproof and sealed for dust. They are also built for the road shock on a bike. Mine (550) is about 15 years old now and still going strong. Because it is waterproof you can use it when it is raining. With a car unit in a case, you can't use the touch screen if yo...

Re: need gps suggestions
There are tons of options out there, and I found the ZUMO units too pricey for me. I went hunting and GARMIN sells factory refurbished units that look and function like brand new units. I got a NUVI 760 for cheap that had been factory refurbished several years ago and I love it. It has several featu...

Re: Turn signals stop after 10 seconds
I've gotten into the habit to turn on the signal and I keep "refreshing" the lever input until I reach the intersection if I was making a turn. I also got into the habit to hit the "cancel" if making a lane change to make sure it doesn't stay on any longer than necessary.

Start with the simple stuff, and things that you can easily get to, like the battery terminals and narrow it down from there.

Seems like you momentaraly lost power, and when that happens, all settings revert to neutral of "factory" settings. You may also have lost all your radio station presets.

Re: Won't Start
Remove, clean and replace the battery connections. Make sure they're tight!!! If there's a tiny bit of crud between the cables and the battery, it won't start. You -might- get lights and radio, but hit the starter, and everything quits. If all this won't fix it, then battery replacement is most like...

Re: Microphone Windsocks
I've used those foam things, and they're tight but never tore one. I went to EdSets and got his fabric sleeves for the microphones that slip over the mic and Velcro shut.
EDIT: I just noticed that EdSets have changed their covers and now they're more like heatshrink and no Velcro anymore.

Re: Rear Brake Pedal Clunk
What Goldwing Greg said....... I had that exact thing happen. It was wearing on the rivets, and nothing bad happened and was easy to set straight. However, I might add that there was no "clunk". Check that the caliper is tight but free enough to move on the pins, and the pads are free enough to move...

Re: Front fork rebuild
You said that it doesn't seem to be absorbing the bumps so well. Something that you may need to address would be the anti-dive valve. If that thing is stuck, it affects the shock absorbing ability of the front end. When I had my forks rebuilt, it was found that the valve was not working, and they re...

Re: 2006 GL1800 Luggage Rack Broken Tap
I've been a toolmaker for 45+ and when we break off a tap, you can sometimes use a tap extractor designed specifically for the size tap you have broken off. If it's a 2-flute tap, maybe 5mm you get an extractor for that tap. They're available in 2, 3 and 4-flute varieties. If that doesn't work we wo...

Re: Cargo Trailer and Hitch for my 2009 1800 Wing
I'll second the swivel hitch comments. I feel confident that it'll save my hide if the trailer decides to do a flip or two....there ARE naysayers, but that's OK with me. I have a friend that actually looked at getting one-wheeled (Unigo) trailer and he said that it's just too small for any practical...

Maybe something had dripped onto the exhaust and boiled off as you were backing out.... ~Merry Christmas~ That would be my thought as well. Did you park it on the side stand? Did it smell like coolant by any chance? I've had that happen and did what you were explaining.... only I didn't use reverse.

Re: Clutch Adjustment
If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and get a set of Speedbleeders. They make the process even better and faster, and can do it all by yourself....get enough to do the brake system too. Makes it super easy the "next" time too.

Re: Clutch Adjustment
There are no adjustments that I'm aware of. When was the last time you bled the system? If you have air in there, it won't work to it's full travel. Needs to be completely bled every-other-year.
