Re: WHO HAS EVER DUMPED THEIR WING?

Never dumped the '04 or the '81 I had, BUT down twice on the 1500. Man that is a big bike. Love riding it, comfort galore to go anywhere but GRAVEL for me. Both my "downers" involved putting a foot down on gravel, slipping and "OOPS!" down she goes. Unfortunately for me (2 fake knees, 2 fused ankles...

Re: What are you doing to prep your bike for 2016?

I am doing LOTS and then lots more as I read more "how-to" articles. I am not the most mechanically inclined person, so these articles with pictures are priceless to me. Too COLD in MN to work in a non-heated garage, so this winter I have been building a sidecar body in my woodwork shop in the basem...

And the 1500 is even bigger. My 1500 is only heavy when I'm trying to lift it. I pump iron 3 days a week just in case I ever have to lift it.

Re: Looking for help with a barn find 1965 Yamaha

Finally got this little gem going yesterday. After cleaning stuff out and off, it started immediately, but then that clutch was "stuck." After tearing that down and freeing it and cleaning it, my reassembly put 3 washers in the wrong place on the main shaft. After finally getting that right, it is n...

Re: Sturgis for Wings?

I was at Sturgis last year on my '88 1500 GW. No problems whatsoever! People very respectful of one of the best riding/running bikes there and one of the few bikes there with nearly 150,000 on the odometer. Not many 1988 bikes (or older)there of any make or model, let alone one with most of the bell...

Looking for help with a barn find 1965 Yamaha

Hi Goldwingers, I am looking for help on a 1965 Yamaha YDS2. Guy gave it to me.....sitting in a shed on the farm since 1981. Has 8,000 on the odometer. After cleaning the gas tank out it started on the first kick, but when I went to shift, I engaged the cultch, shifted into first gear and then it "j...

Re: Tired on GL1800 vs GL1500

I've had 3 Goldwings (1100, 1500 and 1800). I liked all 3. The 1100 did not have cruise which I really like to have on trips, but still a nice bike. The 1500 (in my opinion) is more comfortable than both the 1800 and 1100 on long trips, but it is also the most top heavy (in my opinion)in around town...

Re: Out of country motorcycle purchase

Dave, It sounds like you can get a lot more bikes to choose from in the states and it might be worth your time, effort and trouble to get one outside of Canada. I personally have had 3 Wings...an '81 Interstate, an '04 1800 and currently have an '88 1500. All 3 have been great bikes and great rides....

Re: Trailer picture thread

Here is a nice "homemade" trailer made by an aircraft engineer. He used composites (light and strong) that are used on overhead luggage compartments in jets. I only weighs 145 lbs and has a pop-up tent to also sleep in....nice set up. Also allows a place to put the dog in the kennel....he loves it. ...

Re: Total knee replacement

You can do quite a bit almost right away......walk on crutches etc. for a few days. As already stated: the shape you are in pre-operation has a lot to do with it. 3 months is probably minimum for a heavy bike. I rode a trike the first summer after knee replacement, but am back on the wing now. Best ...

The help and friendly advice I've received on this site is one of the reasons I opt to drive an older Goldwing. I am confident in both my bike from the work I've been able (with help from here) to do already, and help I can have in any future situations with the bike I may run into. Help is here and...

Re: Attaching a sidecar to an '88 1500

Thanks for your response. Yeah! There are some nice sidecar rigs for sale and that may be one option for me. But, I really like the bike I have and know the service behind it and the great reliability it has, so the idea of a different bike doesn't totally appeal to me. Another reason is that anothe...

Attaching a sidecar to an '88 1500

I am toying with the idea of adding a sidecar to my 1988 1500. The reasons I am toying and not certain are: 1. Attaching a used sidecar?????. One car I am interested in came of an 1987 1200 and since the Goldwings are drastically different in the years '87 and '88 (1200 and 1500 cc, frame difference...

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

This particular Goldwing I bought because I was stranded in Seattle with a bike that was giving me problems. So I bought an '89 1500 with 145,000 on the odometer and rode it home with NO problems. Sweet ride by the way. Cruise, stereo, lounge chair seat. Just plain comfortable and RELIABLE.

1500 engine number location

Does anyone know where the engine number is located on the 1500?
Minnesota licensing requires an engine number along with the title and I would appreciate if anyone knows where that engine number is located before I start touring the whole thing apart to find it.

Thinking about buying 1988 1500..any helpful thoughts?

I am considering a 1500 that has 145,000 on it. Documented records from day one. Timing belts just done. Immaculate condition but the miles give me pause for some concern. Any advice from any of you. The owner wants $4500 but that includes a wonderful little camping trailer with the price. Again any...

Re: Missouri rider wants to switch Brands

I had an "04 1800 and it was a very nice bike. At that time in my life I did not ride enough to justify a $15 K bike, so I sold it. I now have an '81 Interstate that I like very much. The "04 had reverse and electronic cruise which I do miss. It was simply put a great bike. The '81 for the price is ...
