New Project!!

Today I picked up a project bike for my son and I: a 1982 GL1100 Interstate! It's been sitting for the last four years so, I'm sure I'll have lots of need for the wonderful articles and input from all you wonderful fellow Wing-thusiasts. Other than a need for exhaust, and to get either a new ignitio...

Re: What's everyone's two-wheeled History?

At age 16, I bought my first bike...and it would be three years before I bought a car. My youth leader at Church had a 1978 KZ400 sitting behind his garage. The original tires were on it and it only had 4500 kms on it. He wanted $400 and it came with owners manual, repair manual, two helmets, a back...

Re: Paintig 83 interstate

I'm in the process of painting my '81. I'm using rattle cans but, thus far, I'm happy with the results. I'm using several grades of wet sand paper. I start with a 320 grit to remove the clear. It does a quick job. I have 400, 600, and 800 grit as well. To smooth between coats. Once the clear is gone...

Re: How to flush your cooling system

My dad and I are getting ready to do a little road trip through the Saskatchewan Badlands next week so I decided a little maintenance was in order. I changed the air filter and the oil, as I do annually, but I had never done the coolant before. I figured that was in order being that I've run this bi...

Re: NO REAR BRAKE - for no reason????

Hey,

You were right about it being the rear brake pedal pivot point. A little preventative maintenance could've gone a long way. It will be added to my annual maintenance list to give a thorough cleaning. The pedal springs back like new again. Thanks for the info!!

Re: Rear brake pedal sticking...no return

Thanks for the advice folks! I did a real solid cleaning job on the pivot point for the brake pedal and everything is working 100%!! It's just another item to add to my annual maintenance schedule.

Keep the rubber side down my fellow Wing-nuts!!

Rear brake pedal sticking...no return

Ok fellow Wing-nuts...my beloved '81 GL1100 developed a new, interesting, and not so pleasant issue coming out of storage this year. I took it for a tour around the lake and discovered that, when I apply the rear brake, the pedal doesn't return. I either have to bend over and pull it up by hand or t...

Re: NO REAR BRAKE - for no reason????

Ok...I'm jumping in to pick your brilliant minds as well. Fired up my '81 GL1100 this spring and took it out for a spin around the lake only to discover that, when I apply the rear brake the lever does not return it jus sits at the bottom and I need to tuck the toe of my boot under it to pull it up....

Re: Harley Mufflers on the Cheap

Ok...so, sadly, the sweet pipes on my '81 GL1100 are rotting out and it's time to look at going to new ones. I am sad to see the pipes I have go because, although they're pretty much stock, the previous owner welded on the most incredible set of fish tail extensions! However, it's time...sooner or l...

Re: A little assistance/advice please...and thank you

Thanks for the help! I picked up some Sea Foam and it smoothed things out. I have changed the air filter and the fuel filter now. So, she's breathing a little freer and easier. Of course, when I changed the fuel filter, there must've been a little crap around the petcock because it was running a lit...

Re: A new member of the Gold Wing family...

Hey Wally, I finally took some time to snap a few pictures of the bike...what can I say? I am enjoying riding way too much! So, take a peek at my pics and tell me what you think. I'm sure grateful for this forum...it has been very helpful so far and I've only been a proud Wing owner for a month. Tha...

A little assistance/advice please...and thank you

Ok, So, I just did my first oil change on my "new" WIng...it went perfect. But I have a couple questions, completely unrelated to the oil change. I'm running an 81 GL1100 with 107,000 kms on it. The timing belt, carbs, and fuel pump were all done 2000 kms ago. She fires up first touch of the starter...

A new member of the Gold Wing family...

Well, after 8 years of not having a bike I just made an incredible deal on the sweetest 1981 GL1100. It is a true dream bike. It has 107,000 kms on it but runs pretty smooth. The previous owner had new timing belt installed 2 years ago, redid the carbs, and installed a new fuel pump. On top of that,...
