Re: Anyone know what this plug in is for?

That plug is for side fairing lighting. I just recently modified my '89 from running lights to turn signal lighting on my fairing, and that is the connection. As mentioned above, I would NOT recommend using this for power. Instead, my suggestion is to wire into the fuse box Accesory terminal and run...

Re: Add On passenger arm rests flop

There is a flang at the top and bottom of the mount, where the arm slides in and you put the washers and the bolt theought. These flanges are made to bend slightly when you tighten the pivot bolt down. It sounds to me like you just need about a 1/4 to a 1/2 turn more on the pivot bolt to snug them d...

Re: Cigarette Plug

I bought an '89 1500 used, and it had a cigarette lighter installed on the front wall of the left saddlebag. We found this location to be optimal as we ride 2 up mostly and she smokes too. With the lighter on the saddlebag, we can both reach it comfortably (but I have to feel for it to replace it af...

They are available. I have adjustable clutch and brake levers on my '89 1500, but unfortunately I can't give you any more information than this as they were on the bike when I bought it:(!

Re: GL1500 Rear Speaker Kit installation of fader switch

When I installed my fader on an '88, the plug was wrapped up in factory electrical tape. You should find the plug you need approximately 4-6 inches back from the radio/anntena wireing harness coming off the back of the radio. There should be a "Y" juncture in the harness that is visibly "bulky" comp...

Re: 1988 gl1500 what to look at ?

This response might be too late, but after I bought my '88 used two summers ago, a few small problem areas started to show up. 1. Front forks where low on dampening fluid and therefore caused a "bounce" at slow speeds. 2. Gear shift had a dry rotted seal causing a very slow oil leak. However, after ...

Re: coolant leak below y pipe on top of engine

On my '88 GL1500, it was easiest to attack from the right side also. I had to remove the right side radiator to have enough room to inspect for the leak and found it on the "Y" hose. The hardest part for me was the removal and especially reconnecting the crossover hose that runs between the two radi...

JJ, we are trying to figure out if the better mileage is attributed to the aerodynamics of having someone or something in the back seat, or if it's attributed to the weight alone.

Re: Gas Mileage : 2 Up

Well, next step is to leave the wife at home, but carry 110lbs worth of dead wait, evenly dispersed in your saddlebags/trunk. Suggest 60lbs in the trunk and 25lbs in each saddlebag. I'm curious to hear the results of this experiment.... Sempai, I'm going to try this little experiment. Providing I g...

Gas Mileage : 2 Up

Can anyone explain how an '88 GL1500 can get better gas mileage running 2UP?! I have tested and retested this phenomenon several times to find out that I'm getting 3-4 MPG more with my wife riding shotgun! I swear the number are for real...does anyone have a suggestion or explanation as to how this ...

Re: Using CB Radio

I'm not particular to any one channel, but I think there should be a campaign to have a "set" channel that "we" should be on when riding with the CB on. I mean, everyone and their brother on two wheels wants to waive at me as they pass as if they know me (which I am not knocking!!!), why don't we ha...

Re: Goldwing 1500 Center Stand

I also suggest (the article suggested above is exactly what you need too), if you have an onboard compressor for rear shock, put some extra pressure in the rear shock before trying to stand the bike up on the center stand (I put about 20lbs). This raises the rear end up, which makes the fulcrum poin...

1st and foremost would be my throttle rocker!!! Re: engine stumbles on acceleration

I have a very similar issue with my '88 GL1500! Mine happens in 1st and 2nd ONLY, once I get to 3rd it accelerates as smooth as can be. Taking off, it's like the carbs are choking and then all of a sudden fuel flows freely and the bike "lurches". I have been chasing this problem for a few months and...

So check this out. I was ready all the articles I could find online and ran across one that mentioned that having the pincher bolts torqued too tight can cause a bounce in the forks! So, I loosened my pincher bolts and torqued them back down very carefully to specs in the manual....and....while it d...

So, I spend a lot of time on the interstate and pass a lot of 'wings, and groups of 'wings. I can never "find" them on the CB, is there a particular channel that 'wing riders stay on as an "unwritten rule"?

This looks great, and I am already brain storming for a mod to my '88! But you never replied to the question of the intercom, does the use of the intercom go by the wayside with this mod, or can the mod be done so that the intercom can still be used for communication with passenger?

I think I'm going with the Harbor Freight "800 Lb. Capacity 55" x 35" Box Trailer", then remove the box and design my own closed box. I will post pics here once I get it done...but don't hold your breath LOL, it might be a while before I can get "garage time" and a "kitchen pass" to get this project...

Ok gang, I want to take a welding class and then, as my first project, build my own motorcycle trailer! The big question is: which type of welding would be most suitable for this, arc welding or mig welding?!?!?

Thanks in advance for your input!
