Re: 4th Alternator GL1500
The Lactrical seems to only be available for 88-90 models at the moment, the one below is what I would try if I had to buy one right now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-ALTERNATOR-FOR-HONDA-Gold-Wing-GL1500-GL1500-High-Output-90-Amp-HO/153890730219?hash=item23d49a30eb:g:yjQAAOSwMQJejMQu:sc:ShippingMet...

Re: OEM stock alternator output
I have an 94 GL1500SE, with CSC Trike conversion. So I have a lot of lights on it. I have blown the 30 amp rear light relays twice. Also alternator failed and I replaced it with an oem one. Then decided to replace that one with an 85 amp lactric alternator. The oem one was still good. So now it is ...

Re: rear tire on gl1500 goldwing 1995
Can someone tell me the average mileage I should be getting on my rear tire? I ran a Bridgestone g702-160-80-16 and got 7500 miles on it. Don't know if that is good or bad? IS THERE ANY TIRE THAT WILL GIVE ME BETTER MILEAGE ON MY 1995 1500 wing? I have never checked my milage before, I just replace...

Re: balance beads
I used 3oz of Dyna Beads in my Michelin Primacy Alpin RF ZP tire. never had a problem with them, tire ran smooth as glass. I am now using an E4 to try it out for a while, to see what the hoopla is about, it has 2 oz of Dyna Beads. Just used the supplied applicator and ran then in thru the valve ste...

Re: balance beads
Thank you for your help, much appreciated. Do you think the tire you use on your 1800 would also fit my 93 1500? Also is the tire you are using taller, shorter or the same height as the stock MC tire ? No, it will not. the CT was not all that different in circumference than the MC tire. The speedo e...

Re: balance beads
I'm using the Austone Taxi tire on mine with 3oz of dyna beads. Got about 10k miles on it with no problems so far. Even with the dyna beads, I didn't feel like trying get 3oz of beads through the valve stem, so I broke the bead loose on one side, inserted a short piece of pvc pipe and put the beads ...

Re: Lake of the Ozarks Trip Part 3 of 3 (aka Charging Issue)
I pulled my alternator out and am in the processes of finding a replacement. Based on a few threads it sounds like I should go with a 90 amp alternator. Does any one have experience with the DB Electrical 90 amp alternator? https://www.dbelectrical.com/products/alternator-for-honda-gold-wing-gl1500...

I never had any problems in 4th, but when I started loosing power above 80mph in 5th, it was my fuel pump.

Yes, with a little supervision, my daughter and her boyfriend pulled the head and replaced the head gasket. Car is running fine, no overheating, heater is working, she's been driving it for a week now!

Re: OEM stock alternator output
Again, my alternator has bit the dust....3rd one in 2 years! I just had the oem alternator rebuilt, and it didn't last a hundred miles. I have no extra lights on bike, no accessories aftermarket, what could be killing my alternator? 1994 SE with a bit over 125,000 miles. Please see my prior post ab...

Re: OEM stock alternator output
As mentioned already, the OEM alternator is only 40amp. The Compufire is the way to go if you can spare the change. I'm running DB electrical 90 amp on mine and have been happy with it, but I did have a regulator go out on it after two years. I think this was actually due to a short that I had, so I...

Re: totally off topic
Thanks for all the replies folks. Haven't got it back together yet , but have confirmed that there is no valve and no obstruction in the return circuit to the water pump, and the head gasket does appear to be leaking between #1 and #2 cyl. Diagnostic tool was showing a miss fire on #2 that was not e...

Re: totally off topic
Head gasket. I have a car that does exactly the same thing. It's possible to have compression getting into coolant without coolant and oil exchange Nailed it. Well, first time for everything I guess. I've never seen a head gasket fail that didn't exhibit some mixing of oil/coolant somewhere or some...

Re: totally off topic
I actually did rig up a flush system to force coolant thru the heater core. I rigged fittings into a 2 gallon jug so I could force compressed air in the top and coolant out the bottom into the heater core, and captured the coolant leaving the core and repeated the process twice. I did put a second r...

Re: totally off topic
I've tried this every time I've drained and refilled the system, about 5 times now, twice when I replaced thermostats, once after water pump replaced, once after radiator replaced, and once after heater core replaced, still hasn't fixed my problem, so I must have something else going on.

Re: New to me
Welcome aboard! Yes, compared to the 1985 Goldwing, the 98 is probably a couple hundred pounds heavier. Two more cylinders and a lot more ABS in the fairing and covers are probably most of it. My '94 weighs about 980 lbs. Keep the air suspension set as low as you can without bottoming out on bumps a...

Re: totally off topic
He did state he replaced the heater core. Blocked or not, would not cause engine overheating in either case. Most cars have a valve in one of the heater hoses, either vacuum operated or mechanically operated thru a cable. Supposed to shut off flow of coolant thru the heater core when you select &qu...

Re: starter
All the relays are beside the fuse box, behind the side cover on left side of bike. If you remove the top and bottom mounting bolt for the fuse box, and also remove the seat, there is just enough room to pull the box out to access the relays. All the relays are the same, so I would try switching the...

Re: starter
There are two solenoids for the starter, one is easily visible beside the battery, but neither is "hard wired", you should be able to remove the rubber cover and see the terminals. My first thought would be a relay sticking, keeping positive 12v to the solenoid, but not getting the ground ...

Thank you everyone for your replies! I ended up installing a set of Silvania Silverstar Ultra. Love them! I'm in a very rural area of Wisconsin, and riding is always a game of "dodge the critter," especially at night. Hawks, eagles, turkeys, cranes, opossum, raccoons, badgers, groundhogs,...

I prefer the blue/white of the Silvania Silver Stars vs the yellow hue from regular replacement bulbs, but that's just a personal preference.

Ok, thanks for the response. I'm running 38 in the front and 48 in the back right now, I may try upping the front a little and see how it does.
