Re: Starting issue
Sorry Mike, yea GPS = gear position switch/sensor. This bike has a unique failure mode, I’ve seen failures of the RRA, reverse regulator assembly, but they have been different than this one. It’s fun when one of the diodes shorts in it and no longer isolates a ground and let’s it get to the wrong c...

Re: Starting issue
Thanks everyone that gave me answers to this problem. After the the bike was serviced, oil and filter and air filter changed. The bike was on its kickstand (indicator illuminated), in neutral (indicator illuminated) and clutch out it started. So I don't have an issue any longer. When it wasn’t work...

Re: Starting issue
I wish I knew what fixed it, but I am thinking it was the sidestand switch. It is very touchy in its position. Doubt it, the side stand has to provide the ground in the up position or the engine will die as soon as you put it into gear and it is the source of the ground that the clutch lever sends ...

Re: Starting issue
In looking at the simplified starting dagram, it appears that there is something left out but it is just a smiplified diagram. There has to be a path for ground to starter relays A and B. It would appear that ground is supplied through the Reverse Relay but the contacts should be closed or maybe th...

Re: Starting issue
I have looked in many different places and have yet to see this problem addressed. I am working on a friends 2001 1800. It starts only with the clutch pulled in. When the side stand is up and in neutral it will not start unless the clutch is engaged. I have looked at the wiring diagrams and don't s...

Re: Reverse Dash Light Flashing
Hi Techdude2000, Thanks for the clarification on this switch and how it works. The only reason I called it a "Neutral Switch Assembly" was thats what Honda Powersports OEM parts Fiche calls it as shown in this pdf. However I would suspect you have more knowledge than me on the correct discription, ...

Re: Reverse Dash Light Flashing
Good catch, just for clarity, the switch on the block with the rubber cover is the reverse switch, it grounds the wire when not in reverse and removes the ground when reverse is engaged. The gear position switch in the front engine cover handles the neutral functions.

Re: '06 GL1800 power failure
Alternator voltage should be at 14V or more with the engine at 2500 rpm. It does sound like a bad connection on the battery, or a bad battery. Double check the terminals for corrosion on the backsides of the cable plates and make sure the bolts didn’t bottom out before tightening up the cables.

Re: 2010 Goldwing electricial trouble
The ECM has nothing to do with the gauges, it only runs the engine and turns on the FI light if the FI system has a problem.

Re: Speedometer stops showing up speed
Hi wingers! I’ve got GL1800 2001. During today’s ride I’ve noticed speedometer stops shows speed. I’ve pulled over for a minute, turned off engine. After speeding come back to normal suddenly when I rich roughly 40km/h. It happens couple of times and after that stops showing speed definitely and FI...

Re: GL1800 Speedometer/Odometer reading
A couple of things to note about the clutch system. It’s oil pressure assisted and anything that will make that oil pressure lower can cause it to slip. As Greg would advise, use only the Honda oil filter due to some others restricting oil flow too much and use the recommended oil viscosity. There i...

Re: GL1800 Speedometer/Odometer reading
I do have the old gauge cluster, one of the few things that I have not tossed when I replaced it! Just dug it out of storage, will examine the circuit board. Old one did not indicate on any gauge. investigated the sensors, they all led us to believe that the problem was in the cluster. Since it is ...

It is on double stand. rear wheel spins. Don"t apear to be locked. The R light is flashing.?? Remove the right side engine cover and carefully pull the little rubber boot off of the reverse switch on the side of the block. Make sure the wire lug is snug on the stud. Re: Fuel pump fuses
Are there any fuses that are specifically dedicated to the fuel pump, and if so, where is it, (are they), located??? TIA No specific fuel pump fuse. It’s powered from the FI/Ignition relay along with the ECM and the coils. Since you’re not getting the engine light coming on when you turn on the key...

Re: Fuel pump fuses
Thank you for your response. No. The engine light indicator comes on STEADY, after I start cranking the engine. When I first turn the key on, I hear nothing but some relays clicking towards the rear of the bike, seat removed. I assume the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, (like most cars?)...

Re: intermittent reverse problem
I am having an intermittent problem with reverse on my 2002 GL1800. After I start the bike and push the reverse button (reverse light come on) and try to back up, the bike will move about an inch and stop. I will push the start/reverse button again and it will move in reverse normally. There has be...

Re: 2010 GL1800 Electrical problems
Recently, my 2010 GL 1800 ABS, with 129K miles and a Motor Trike conversion (done in 2013), has been acting up and we can’t put our finger on the exact problem. After riding for some time, about 30 minutes, the first indication of a problem is the ABS logo starts flashing, then the voltmeter starts...

Dead on! I replaced fuse and it's been working perfect. You know, that was the first place I looked but did not see an open/burnt fuse. After reading your suggestion I thought I'd better look again. Still looked good. So I tested all fuses with ohm meter and the tail light fuse proved open. I was b...
