Re: Radio / ignition switch problems
OK problem still exists and have tried the above suggestions apart from the starter relay behind the left pannier as I only just saw that. In the meantime I have been servicing the clutch slave cylinder as in my other post. Is that where the starter relay is on a 2002/03 as well as I thought they w...

Re: Starting issues.
Does anyone know the voltage that should be coming into and out of the clutch switch? I am currently getting 4.5V with a 12V charge on the battery. Sorry I didn’t see this earlier. The voltage isn’t important on that switch, it provides a ground for the system to use when the lever is squeezed. Che...

Re: Clutch Slave cylinder removal (it's stuck)
OK it's now out :D Came down this morning and had another look and it had popped out. So I guess the Goldwing Pixies must have come down at night and did the job, Cant believe none of the you guys suggested leaving it to the Pixies. In all serious thanks guys I guess the combination of hitting it a...

Re: 2006 gl 1800 Champion Trike Alternator Fail
The ECM can shut down the alternator. You need to check the continuity of the black wire from the alternator to the ECM. Maybe has a bad connection or maybe an ECM that is failing after it gets warm. Do you know if the shop checked this?

Re: Radio / ignition switch problems
The next time the radio lights stay on when you turn off the key, leave the key off and try the turn signals. If they work, then the accessory relay is sticking in the latched position and needs replaced.

Re: Starter questions
Thanks for all the help from you guys. Priced a new starter from my Honda dealer $ 908.00 and tax. I think I will take it apart and rebuild if I can get the parts. Anyone ever buy a rebuild kit anywhere for one of these starters? I don’t know of a rebuild kit, but the individual parts are available...

Re: Starter questions
One note of caution when you get to the point of installing the starter motor. Place it in position using your hands, if it doesn't go flush with the casing wiggle it around a bit until it slips in flush. Do not use the mounting bolts! It can hang up on a gear wheel (possibly the reverse gear..not ...

Re: 2001 Goldwing code 26 and stumped
Glad this was resolved. Just an FYI, the S in that circuit stands for the shield of the knock sensor wires. It’s a coaxial type cable with the shield grounded to keep ignition noise out of the knock sensor signals. There’s no connection at the sensors, they are connected only at the ECM connector en...

Re: LED Brake/Turn Lights Interaction
The trailer wiring "looks" good, nothing changes when I wiggle the wires. There is a "adapter", for lack of a better term, that converts the bikes independent turn & brake lights to the trailers combined turn and brake lights. It is a Hoppy brand item that has 5 wires going ...

Re: LED Brake/Turn Lights Interaction
I found some time tonight to put an ohmmeter on it. The dark green wire with silver spots reads 0.3, there is a light green wire with silver spots that reads 0.9. Please excuse my ignorance,I was looking at the wiring diagrams in the service manual and I cannot find anything labeled C15. Is there s...

Re: 2006 GL1800 starter help please
You are correct, Greg. That (red & black) wire pair you circled is a lead I installed to an amplifier in the center trunk (audio). And, yesterday finally opened the starter and no "smell" But I did find the problem. Brushes were (all 4) stuck in their holders. With the armature out th...

Re: LED Brake/Turn Lights Interaction
That sounds like great advice, thank you! I quick ran out to the garage for a quick peek and there is a connector intermediately behind the relay bank (12 pins) and another closer to the trunk (13 pins, 1 empty slot). both connectors looked OK, no signs of melting or burns. It will have to wait unt...

Re: LED Brake/Turn Lights Interaction
Look at C15 under the seat to the rear of the relay bank. It’s gray and has 14 pins, the green ground wire develops a bad connection and starts melting the connector. This wire is the ground for the rear lights and your symptoms point to a bad or missing ground. If you find the connector is melted ...

Re: 2006 GL1800 starter help please
Great advice. Thx Tomorrow (step 1) I'll pull the cap, check the brushes and armature. Manual says to *NOT* use sandpaper or emery cloth to clean it; does that mean it can't be cleaned or only on a lathe? I would clean it with a pencil eraser and then some rubbing alcohol with a Q-tip. If it’s worn...

Re: 2006 GL1800 starter help please
Hi again TD2K OK, so I hate motorcycles again but have the starter out. Getting one bolted back in should be really, really fun. With it out I thought, "Why not see if it works now" and --- sure enough, it spun. And then it didn't. And then it did again. Haven't taken it apart, and don't ...

Re: 2006 GL1800 starter help please
Thank you again, sir. Don't know why I didn't think of it before - but can just clamp the - jumper cable to an engine spot and if it's the ground plate/wire the starter will spin. So it looks like I need to pull the dang fairing & gas tank DAMN. Yep, I feel your pain. :( If you replace the star...

Re: 2006 GL1800 starter help please
Some help please. GL1800 no start. The usual "click" from the relays, but no starter turn. Thought the battery was (again) going bad because for a few months the starter was more and more sluggish each time. Was about to order a new battery but checked the existing one first. Battery OK. ...

Re: Reverse gear stopping after 2-3 seconds - sorted
If you have a GL1800 the problem is most likely a stretched reverse cable than can be adjusted in less than 5 minutes in your garage. Check online or in the service manual on how this is done. The adjustment is done with the cable that pulls on the reverse, not the cable that pulls it off. Just adj...

Re: 2001 GL1800 neutral light
The ABS light is giving Code 12. In my Clymer Manual it says ECU. Would this be the ABS Controller? Part number 38600-MCA-971 from what I can find. For diagnosis, I suggest getting a real Honda Service Manual. Using various manuals is like having differnet bibles, and it can become challenging to g...

Have you tried opening the fuel cap when it’s running bad and stalling to see if it’s vapor locking?
