Re: Starter removal: 1984 1200 Aspencade - minimum parts rem

WARNING...WARNING!!! NO BOSS...NO BOSS!!! lol. Seriously, do the removal on the side stand and don't move the bike. The cog can roll back if you're not careful. You will lose some oil so place a catch pan under the bike. I figured I'd do an oil and filter change as well. Also, I removed the exhaust ...

Re: How to replace your throttle cables

I'm wondered if you may know any sure way to route throttle cables correctly. I replaced mine and did not use a feed wire. Now I have sticking grip issues and I know it's the way I routed them.

Re: Anti Afterburn valve question

I've been following your posts. I'm having carb issues and am curious about the shop vac test for the vacuum slides. Also, I could use a "float adjustment for dummies" guide as well. I have the shop manual for 1985 GL 1200 A, but it's a little unclear to me. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. ...

Re: home made float gauge?? Need help

My 85 Aspy has all of the lean symptoms. I rebuilt and synced the carbs, job well done I might add. Runs bad at idle and steps out rough. I found one float radically out of adjustment compared to the other three. Adjusted it to match the others which measured to spec. However, Couldn't start it beca...

Re: Save me from my locked brakes disaster

If you compress the pistons into the caliper for clearance of the new pads without polishing them up and there's gunk on them, they will no doubt stick. As the pads wear, the piston does not return as far as they did with new pads. They collect dirt and grime. I went through this with new pads and h...

Re: Starter removal: 1984 1200 Aspencade - minimum parts rem

I did have to pull the exhaust header out and turn it slightly. But no big deal. I found the brushed are worn, one that was just a nub. $28.00 rebuild kit on Ebay and back in service. I feel like I'm "reverse engineering this bike". But it's my first one so I'm kind of glad that I'm learning a lot a...

Re: Starter removal: 1984 1200 Aspencade - minimum parts rem

Hey, thanks. I'm getting the "click" with no starter action. I jumped from the battery straight to the starter and still nothing. I think it's time for starter surgery. Lots of good, helpful posts here. Thanks again.

Re: Bonding Saddlebag cracks

Best material is ABS pipe shavings (a rasp works well) and ABS cement. Sand and prep the area(s). Coat well and allow lots of time to cure. Good luck.

Thank you. I'm going with factory settings for now because it's running pretty good. I'll look for the right tach. and puts with it off season. After all, that's what winter is for.

Thanks. Makes perfect sense. Like I said, turning any screw in or out had no affect and I couldn't figure out why. I'll plug the vacuum line anyway of course.

Re: What is this?

I stumbled across this post and realized that mine has no plug on the "T"- side of the vacuum system. Does this affect the pilot screw adjustment. While trying to tune these screws, turning them in or out had absolutely no affect what so ever. I set them all back to preset, 2-1/4 turns out for now.

Re: Darn side cover

This was a design flaw. They just flew off. And if you were lucky enough to keep yours secured, someone would probably swing by and steal it. There are after market manufacturers, some on this forum. I was offered one for around $125.00. Not bad. Keep looking and good luck.

Re: Carb rebuild 84 1200 interstate

I just did my carburetors today. Not hard just time consuming. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SHOP MANUAL!!! It makes it much easier to know the Removal and install procedures. I still have to synchronize and fine tune them. The rebuild kits cost me about $125.00 for four carbs. So far, well worth the effort....
