Re: Quitting motorcycles?
On my mind also, but not quite ready to give it up yet. At the age of 72, I think about my physical capabilities diminishing and pay careful attention to it. When I do get on the bike, I enjoy it yet, but also know that someone else's carelessness can kill. Over the past two years, I have sold my GL...

Re: MotoBatt MBTX24U Motorcycle Battery for GL1500
I bought one of these last week for my 1987 Gl1200I. Bought it online from Amazon, as I have Prime and the Amazon distribution center is in my local metropolitan area. Battery arrived DOA, and refused to accept a charge. Notified Amazon, they issued a full refund a couple of hours later and told me ...

Re: Tires
For economical (cheap) tires on my GL1200, I currently have Shinko Tour Master 230 tires. They are great for around town and day trips. I did take a 2200 mile trip just after installing them. Super sticky, but the soft rubber compound means I only have 8500 miles on the rear tire and it is time for ...

Check for continuity between the yellow wires and ground. If you have continuity, the stator is bad.

Well, riding suggestions from my part of the country. I've been on some of the routes you listed, and look forward to riding more of them. The Wisconsin Rustic Roads are nice rides. Welcome to the forum.

Re: 1987 1200I
The green wire is ground. It is drawn on the schematic in such a way that it is shown connected to all the components. It is more common to see components connected to a ground symbol than strung together. In that schematic, the ground symbol is just to the right of the horns.

The last commenter in your original post, and the schematic attachments by Dave in your original post, both answer the question of how to connect power/ground to the iginition control unit.

Re: Swapping Electronic Cruise Control
Interesting question, because I did buy an '87 Interstate that some PO had added the cruise unit from an Asp. It did work, but the PO did such a kludgy job on it, that I took it back out. My first experience was when it wouldn't disengage when the brake pedal was pushed. Turned out that the brake sw...

Re: No Spark at plugs when turning over, no click on solenoid
One further comment: When the start button is pushed, the headlight should go out not just dim. Assuming the wiring in that part of the harness is still in its original configuration, something is not quite right there. Maybe a ground problem or dirty connections. Virgil is very good, listen to him ...

Can you actually catch sturgeon fish in Lake Michigan (I note you visited Sturgeon Bay)? We have strange laws about royal fish, and anyone who catches a sturgeon fish (or a whale) must offer it to the Queen - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_fish There is a restricted fishing of sturgeon in Lake...

Re: Crush washer sizes
Three aluminum crush washers used on the bolts that fasten the pump to the housing. My kit included them, but maybe all kits don't. Don't know the size, but maybe online parts lists would give the size. They are shown in picture #83 in this link: http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&...

No one sells replacement pieces, to my knowledge. Motorycle junkyards/recyclers are the place to look. Depending on the year of the piece, it may need a respray to match a color.

Gl1200 passenger backrest cover replacement
The passenger backrest on my 1987 GL1200 Interstate was in good shape, except for the top where the sun had rotted the material and the seam. After checking Ebay for used backrests, I decided to buy a replacement cover from this Ebay vendor in Poland: http://www.ebay.com/usr/firma_wijalis Their feed...

Re: Need a little advice on a 1200 starter
I rebuilt the starter on my '87 gl1200i a couple of years ago. I did not remove the exhaust, but I did loosen the exhaust header from the head and loosen the crash bar on the left side. The rebuild was pretty easy and the starter now spins much faster. The old grease was caked in pretty hard.

Re: Front tire for a 1999 1500SE Trike
My Suzuki metric cruiser came with D404 tires from the factory. I got about 16k miles out of the front tire, but it was a lighter bike than the Wing. If the weight rating is good for your Wing, I'd go for it.

My youngest son and I did the circle tour last summer in July. Was a great time for both of us. Be prepared for all kinds of weather. One place we would highly recommend is Carla's Cozy Inn in Baraga, MI. Vintage 50's strip motel on the bay. https://carlasinn.com/ IMG_20160712_101649061_HDR.jpg IMG_...

Re: Shift lever sticks after water pump replacement
I have heard of shifting difficulties if the replacement lower front engine cover gasket is thinner than the OEM gasket. Tight spacing tolerances to the front cover.
