Re: GL1100 generator?

That's right, I am not being critical at all. I am excited that someone smarter than me can even spell Chromium Transfunctionator and the like. Any help or encouragement I can offer to assist in the undertaking, I am happy to provide. How cool is it that a Goldwing is still being productive from the...

Re: GL1100 generator?

Have you made any headway on the throttle control? It is such a good idea, my curiousity just won't leave it alone.

Re: GL1100 generator?

I spoke with a Master Electrician today on your behalf, and long story short, there are more variables to the equation than I could write down. He said more than anything, you don't want a voltage spike, at all. If you are dead set on it, an alternator or electric motor specialist would be a good so...

Re: GL1100 generator?

Sorry, I misunderstood. I was assuming the motor would be overpowered enough that even at a 40hp load, any fluctuation would be negligible. A 20Kw should handle 80 amps of service within a safety factor, without overworking it. If you are not running a water well it's hard to get to 80 amps, you can...

Re: 83 Goldwing Brakes

I have had issues with the rear/front brake dragging and here is what the great folks and How-To articles on this site helped me to cure them, yours may be different. First, if the pedal is reluctant to come back up all the way, penetrating oil is the magic trick. Second if you look on WingAdmin's h...

Re: antifreeze leak near carbs

I just fixed a leak on mine this week on the rubber hose that goes from the radiator fill neck the the overflow tank. It was just a pinhole and was hard to track. I warmed it with the false tank cover removed and was able to find it with a flashlight. Hope this helps.

Re: GL1100 generator?

You might try a locking throttle cable available at any commercial vehicle parts dealer, or on ebay. Get a good one with the twist fine adjust, and you can get it close by pulling it out, and then dial it in on your hertz gauge or tachometer. I use one on my carpet cleaning van and it has been flawl...

Re: 83 interstate timing belts

Yes, your method is absolutely now my method. I tried doing it without the vise grips, and that's why it got creative. But a wise man told me, "You never know until you try". I did also steal the trick that you and WingAdmin use on replacing the inside bolts with sealant. The next scheduled belt cha...

Re: 83 interstate timing belts

Thanks for the information to all, I replaced my timing belts for the first time on the Monday holiday. What I learned from the experience, is loosening the right side valve train cradle trick and not removing the radiator worked nicely. Overall it is a completely achievable do-it-yourself project.

I am not a professional, nor do I play one on TV, but I service mine on all my vehicles every oil change. However, in this part of the world dust is a major problem. They don't always need it, so I consider it servicing my peace of mind.

Re: How to replace your windshield

I gave up on the case hardened windshield and hit the buy-it-now on a new Slipstreamer. I am not sure if it is made of Lexan, but the tutorial at the beginning of this thread is 100% accurate. I cannot express how much I appreciate the experience that is available to me on this site. Where would a p...

Re: Screw up Stories

I have to tell on a friend of mine. Years ago we both went to take our motorcycle riding test together, as we had decided to finally ride legally. It was 37 degrees (Farenheit, I don't know what that is in Celsius), and a heavy misty type rain. The testing site was 48 miles from our base of operatio...

Re: Goldwing colors

This thread inspired me. I liked the Chrysler Cool Vanilla so much, I pulled the pealing brown beast into the shop this Monday. In four evenings after work, turned it into Tractor Supply Company's Gloss White tractor paint. It was done in time to put in a 250 mile cruise today.

Well, it's been a busy week since the maiden voyage. I was so excited when I returned, that I pulled the whole thing apart and repainted it. The original brown paintjob had seen better days. I started the project after work on Monday evening, and was completely finished Thursday evening after work. ...

Maiden Voyage

My new to me '83 Goldwing Interstate went on it's maiden voyage today. I bought it on the side of the road in the Oklahoma panhandle for a song and a short "Last Boy Scout" dance. It has been setting for several years, so I have been pouring over this forum for many of the tips and tricks to get it ...

Re: How to replace your windshield

I tried using headlight restorer on my windshield, I recommend it if you are going for a match with a rainbow paintscheme. Thanks for the how-to, I need it now.
