i am thinking about placing bluetooth speakers on my 87 Interstate since my radio got pressure washed by a helpful grandchild. Radio reception here is spotty at best anyway. Any ideas on a good brand ?

Re: GoldwingsDocs Gathering Sep 22-24, 2017

A 77 was my baby until two years ago and it ran along just fine. Hated to sell it but my wife said I could not be a collector. I guess one wing in the house was all she could clean around.

Re: GoldwingsDocs Gathering Sep 22-24, 2017

I am going to camp at the Hocking Hills gathering but I do not have a trailer. can anyone put together a list of what I can bungee, strap, duct tape to my wing? I did a lot of primitive camping when I was doing the powwow circuit but that was always in an SUV. i haveseen alot of folks loaded down wi...

information on Hocking Hills is available at ExploreHockingHills.com or you can request a travel guide by calling 1-800-462-5464. If someone sets a date I will be there. Sounds like too good a time to pass up.

Sounds great. Hocking Hills travel guides can be ordered online and have most amenities listed for the surrounding area ( camping ,hotels, motels cafes. There are tons of b&bs and cabins as well. Some cabins will sleep up to 10 people.)

Re: Timing Belt for GL1200

I replace my timing belts every three years or 25k miles whichever comes first. On an automobile engine they can go 100k because the engines do not rev as fast or as much as the typical bike. It is just good insurance that you won't scatter your engine or worse lock it up at highway speeds, which co...

Bluetooth speakers

i am thinking about using bluetooth speakers to listen to tunes while I am on the highway. Here in southeastern Ohio the radio reception is spotty but my cell phone works reliably. Does anyone have any recommendations on what brand to look into?

Re: winterizing my wing

Thanks for the replies. That makes me feel much better about putting the wing away. I use seafoam every few tankfulls to keep it clean. I aim to keep this one till I go under a long time from now.

winterizing my wing

i recently read the forum about winterizing a Goldwing and they spoke of storing the bike in an unheated garage. My garage is heated. is this going to cause any problems? I don't have anywhere else to store it. I follow all the other steps that are listed pretty much to the letter.

fRONT FENDER LOOSE

I have lost a couple of fasteners for my front fender. They are the ones that join the inner steel fender to the outer plastic fender. With the small amount of clearance between it and the sidewall of the tire what is the best way to re- secure it?

Re: Are 84-87 Wings still reliable

I would ride mine anywhere and with confidence. This is one of the most reliable powerplants ever built. Stators and other problems you might encounter are possible on any make, model, or year bike out there. Trust it and enjoy it.

clutch cylinder losing fluid

I am pretty sure (well OK not pretty) that I am losing fluid from my slave cylinder for the clutch. I cannot see any wet spots on the outside of the engine. Could it be bypassing the piston rod seal and getting into the engine? Is there a video somewhere showing the removal and rebuild of the cylind...

Re: OIL BRANDS

When it comes to the conventional dino oil there are only two types. The sweet crude from the norhteast known as Pennsylvania sweet is a parrafin based oil where as the oil from the other oil fields (Texas) is an asphalt based oil. The sweet crude makes a better lube oil and the asphalt makes better...

replaceing tail light bulbs

I am a new owner of an 87 gl1200 Interstate and need some advice on tail lights. The lights on the tour pack all light up, but down on the hard bags I only notice the turn signals and brake lights. The lens covers wrap around the bags but I don,t see the sides light up. Should all the area under the...

GL1200 shop manual

A few years ago I was able to download a shop manual for my "77" GL1000. Is there a downloadable shop manual for a GL1200? I am also looking for an Owners manual for my 87. I have never had a radio or cruise control or anything fancier than turn signals in the past and I know the 87 has a lot of fea...

just got a 1200

I just made a deal on an 87 Gl1200. The odometer shows 36K and the previous owner has no idea when or if the timing belts have been changed. Obviously the first order of business is to put new belts on it. Can anyone tell me the part number for a Gates belt to fit my new old ride? Is it the same bel...

Re: How Do I Polish...?

Sounds like you got some good advice on the polishing part of your project. As far as getting the oil out of the rust and tight corners, just spray it with some brake parts cleaner. this stuff is made to remove oil and not leave any residue behind. A word of caution though, use it with plenty of ven...

Thanks for the replies. Ordered them today and will keep you informed as to how the installation goes. Gotta wait for spring to see how they handle unless we get a serious break in the weather. November in northeast Ohio means rare riding opportunities.

My 77 was displaying the same symptoms that you have described. I removed the starter and cleaned it and replaced the brushes and checked the connection inside the starter to insure a solid connection to the brushes. Have not had any issues since. The bike has given me three years of good fun and pl...

I placed an Interstate Batteries AGM in my wing and have been very pleased with it. The battery rep that comes to service our heavy equiptment said the AGM could be turned upside down without a problem. I will just take his word for it and not test it out.

metric tire sizes?

I have been cruizing the internet looking for tires for my 77 and find most of them are listed with metric sizes. Not being fluent in metric conversions, just what the heck am I looking at? Also, most tires are now tubeless and I don't want to give up my old wire spoke wheels. Can I put a tube in a ...
