Re: GL1800 Overheating

Colin, Only a few things left that might cause the overheating... Perhaps the thermostat is sticking closed - this would certainly cause an overheat condition or perhaps there is a restriction in the cooling system some where... There were early models of 1800's that had issues with the cooling pass...

Re: Card read error

I have no input on the little engine light falshing (MIL) but card read errors are frequently caused by a low battery or an old battery that sin't holding a good charge... When you go to start the bike, battery voltage drops to the point where the NAVI doesn't get a good boot due to low battery volt...

Glad you got it all worked out... Think I may try and sneak out for a short ride myself today - supposed to be 60+ here today and that's decent riding weather...

Re: Cleaning Coolant Reservoir

Thanks Les but its soooo hard to get that rubber tube off that elbow joint and it took forever to get it angled right the first. Looks like i will have to get out my mighty vac or suction tube. Any idea what kind of cleaning agent to use? As previously suggested, rubbing alcohol would be a good sta...

Re: Cleaning Coolant Reservoir

Ohhhhhhh!!!! Not good!!! Well, when I am changing coolant, I do the following, as I have a belly pan installed on the bike and it is a lot of work to take it off to get to the overflow bottle... I first suction out all the coolant I can with my Mity Vac tool... Then I add about a quart of water and ...

Re: Best brake pads

Another vote for OEM... Tried EBC's on my 1500 and didn't like them - lots of brake dust and faster wear... Use nothing but OEM's on my 1800...

Re: TPM Sensor - Battery?

redbug, what you say all makes sense... I guess for the most part, at least in my case, is that I really enjoy working on the bike, truck, car, whatever... The wife and I do the same thing when it comes to house maintenance/remodeling, etc... For myself, when I was still working, I had such a high p...

Re: TPMS and Darkside

most of us reverse register our tires and that usually takes care of it... When registering the tires, do the back first and then the front... The bike thinks the back is the front and since it's looking for 36 PSI, most of the time it is OK... Even if you run 32 PSI like I do, if the OEM unit flash...

Re: TPM Sensor - Battery?

Retail price on the TPMS sensor is $210.65 (which you WILL pay at a dealership!!) and of course, you have 2 tires, so that is $421.30 and I'm guessing about 2 hours of shop labor (conservative estimate) as in addition to tire dismounting and mounting, the new sensors will also have to be "regis...

Re: GL1800 Overheating

OK, all that sounds pretty close to normal... A few more questions... What is your speed when riding thru town??? Is it in the 15-20 MPH area??? Regarding the fan that makes noise, perhaps it is running slower than the other because of the noise it's making??? If it's overheating in town, that impli...

Re: GL1800 Overheating

No one has asked the question so I will... When you "ride in town" at what speed are you riding at??? All GL1800's will overheat in what is called "Parade Mode" which is driving at a speed of 15-20 MPH... At this speed, the cooling fans will not come on because of your forward sp...

That's a very good point - could be a stuck or otherwise inoperable button - it's been known to happen... Can he hear the CB thru the headset??? Might be worth pulling the left front pocket and checking the 6 pin headset connector at the end of the headset cable and make sure it's plugged in... mFS9...

Re: 2008 GL1800 AD Audio Sytem Problems

Aside from the obvious things to check, make sure that headset volume and intercom volume are turned up to the appropriate level... If this fails, I would seek guidance from either Sierra Electronics or Wing Connect, both of who are quite knowledgeable along Gold Wing radio repair lines... It may be...

Re: lowering handel bars

I don't believe that I have ever seen (or read of any) handlebars shims that will LOWER the handle bars... The largest complaint on the 1800 is the bars are already too low and most riders (including me) want them raised... When I installed my MBL risers, they moved the bars up and back... If there ...

Re: 2002 1800 F1 light came on

Like WingAdmin said, you'll have to read the MI light code - here is how to do that... This has been posted a few times, so I thought I would put it somewhere where it can be easily found. If FI (Fault Indicator) light comes on pull over but DO NOT shut bike off. Put in neutral and put side stand do...

Re: To heavy for me Goldwing

Have you considered an after market "bolt on" trike kit??? I use one periodically on my 1800 as I am getting older and losing some upper and lower body strength... Don't know if they are available in Australia but it might be worth checking into... Thought I saw a used one in the latest is...

Re: CT tires

On running the Battleaxe up front, how does it compare to a MT? I have a 2012 1800 and when the tires go south, I am planning on going double dark side. I know a bunch of people do the Battleaxe and love it. I am a peg dragger and also a long ride on the highway guy. Handles about the same as far a...

Re: heated seat/grips

If your experiencing intermittent operation with the grip/seat heat, more than likely you have an issue with the heat controller... This device lives on the left side of the bike behind the saddle bag... There is a multi-pin connector that interfaces the controller with the bike harness... You might...

Yeah, I've noticed a little of that but playing with air pressure minimizes that... I like them because I frequently throw on my Tow Pac "trike" conversion... Outrigger conversions are hard on tires so anything I can do to get more mileage out of them is a plus...

Re: CT tires

I also have just switched to a CT and also use the Yokohama Avid Envigor, but I use the run flat... Handles well and a softer ride plus much higher mileage before replacing - what's not to like :D
