Re: Gold Wing tires
I don't have the time to read at least 8 pages of posts about this in over 4 years! So my only 2 comments are: 1. I installed Centramatic wheel balancers, oh so worth it. Longevity and smooth with, amazingly, better braking (shorter distances) vs. pre Centramatics. 2. Honda have a lot of smart engi...

Re: 03 Goldwing with 20K miles
14 years later and I still hear the fearmongers about the frames on early GL1800's. Give it up. If it ain't broke by now, probably not going to break. Mine was inspected, welds were the concern and it is fine. I ride solo so maybe a lighter load helps, as it would ANY vehicle of course. I have ridde...

Re: Cam tensioner removal
I think I will just get the dealer to do this valve shim check/adjustment! Not that I am not able to, as I completely rebuilt my front forks on my 03 GL1800 last spring and I can replace the air filter in 30 minutes flat. I've removed the fuel tank just because I could and reattached the vent tube w...

Re: 2016 Yellowstone vacation ride (video)
Nice work! Been on all those roads a few times so it was nice to 'return' to them in the middle of our viscous cold weather!
Had to laugh, the video ends with the state sign of Nebraska...I know the scenery there can't match up to the Yellowstone region!

Re: The end of Ethanol-free fuel in the US
I wonder who's bright (dumb) idea it was to use food for a substitute for gasoline? Surely someone must recognize that all that corn could be put to better use? What was wrong with regular gasoline anyways that it has to have corn in it? Strange indeed. Glad I have a Leaf EV car for those times a Go...

Re: The brand-new 2018 Goldwing?
If Honda doesn't care about us and introducing a new Goldwing, guess what? Neither do I care about Honda! I maintain the entire motorcycle myself, have only been to a dealer ONCE in 13 years for the recall (rear master brake cylinder). The previous recalls were done by the previous owner. I NEVER bu...

Re: The brand-new 2018 Goldwing?
I too like simplicity when on my luxury Goldwing...I often will ride for a day or 2 and never turn on the stereo. You'll notice that I only mention Bluetooth as an extra plug and play device, kind of like a cartridge. If you need it, buy it and plug it in, like the CB Radio or the ancient CD player....

Re: The brand-new 2018 Goldwing?
57mpg is equal to 47.5 mpg US gallon. Do you routinely get 47.5 mpg US gallon on your GL1800? On one tank I got 62 mpg but just one tank. My average is 57 mpg imperial gallon or 47.5 mpg US gallon. I am working to get my average to 60 mpg. I do NOT turn off my bike on downhills, or neutral it out, e...

Re: The brand-new 2018 Goldwing?
57 mpg is easy!
However to achieve it (and I will break 60 mpg next year!) there are a number of steps you have to follow carefully and religiously. Are you ready & willing to commit to them?
If you are, maybe we should open up a new forum topic?

Re: Do you wear your " Helmet "
I have never ridden any motorcycle without a helmet on in over 46 years of riding. Never been to a construction site without my full gear on either. No difference. Why strong men (and women) wear all the gear when working and then don't wear a helmet on their motorcycle is beyond comprehension. The ...

Re: Oil filter for synthetic engine oil
My buddy in Colorado has one of the new BMW K1600GTL touring bikes. I had not seen one up close (they are way too expensive here in Canada as you can buy a decent car for less $$). Anyways, what really shocked me was 2 things: The tiny squashed oil filter! It is about 1/2 the 'height' of a regular o...

Re: Goldwing Wannabes
Harley or Honda? Ford or Chevy? Who cares? The best thing of all is that in North America, it's freedom of choice. Buy and ride what you want. I don't like loud vibrating bikes, others do. To each his own. All I DO know is that when I am in Wyoming and I have 800 miles ahead of me to get home (have ...

Re: How often does this happen???
Excellent decision to keep the 1500 that you already have. IF it does everything you need it to, why bother with a newer bike and spending the money to do the same thing? I can give myself $30K anytime I want from my company but I chose NOT to buy a new bike....why would I? I guess that's why I am s...

The above posting is well said! I agree 100%! Don't know what more to say other than I have continued my 'rant' about a new Goldwing on the posting about the 2018-future Goldwing. However a few things would have been nice to have as I mentioned there. It is important to like/love what you own/ride o...

Re: What does every one do for a living?
Just came across this curious posting! I've been in the Information Technology industry for 35 years. I retired and then got 3 jobs to keep busy living. Retiring is just a made up word. If you truly retire, you will die, plain and simple. We humans are made to move and think! I now own my own multim...

Re: Winter upgrades
You have a nice Goldwing (red)! I would keep it looking much the same but some tastefully applied chrome items will enhance it visually of course. One item you must get is a chrome side panels which you have black ones now. Chrome covers will really set the bike up. The items you initially suggested...

Re: Electric Motorcycles
That car must be a Chevrolet Volt. It has a computer that knows how 'old' the gas is in the tank and will burn it (turn on the engine) so you will have to replenish it with fresh gasoline.

Re: The brand-new 2018 Goldwing?
If Honda was listening to all Goldwing owners out there to what we have been saying we wanted for years now, they would have introduced some of those items over the years as worthy new model enhancements (besides a boring new colour or fancy key fob), but they haven't. One reason may be that they ju...

Fear not the "top shelter removal" task! First time I was intimidated, 2nd time I was fascinated. I agree with previous post, there are 2 big plugs underneath it and you can see them with a bright flashlight when you lift/tip up the rear of the unbolted shelter. I would reach up and unplug...

Re: SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL
I live and ride in a cold environment. Even in the summer, it is cool and few days get over 80F. But I do tour south and encounter the heat. Synthetic m/c oil here is now $29.00/litre plus tax and enviro fees. Nuts to this! So I try to shop around and order online. Next is the viscosity...so to take...
