Re: New to me GL1500SE, so much good info here!

Welcome Stew! The 1500 is a GREAT bike, and it appears your dad's was well cared for. I got my '98 back in 2012 with 14,000 miles on it. Today it has 86,000 on it! :D Take WingAdmin's advice and practice slow speed maneuvers. This is a Great site for info. Enjoy!

Re: Windshield cleaning

I use Aerospace 303 protectant. I learned from flying to always wipe in the vertical. Any scratching that may occur will less pronounced. Also just started using someone else's tip about using hydrogen peroxide to dissolve the bugs. AMAZING! I too started using hydrogen peroxide to dissolve bugs ba...

Re: Garmin Zumo 395LM Motorcycle GPS

Thanks for the info smilam. I don't want to leave the mount on all the time. Just when taking long trips, 2 to 4 times a year. If I understand correctly, I can detach the wire from the cradle via a small screw. This should work well. Can't wait to use it on a trip. :D

Re: Garmin Zumo 395LM Motorcycle GPS

Thanks Bill. With it hard wired in, can you remove the cradle from the ram mount after removing the gps unit? Meaning can the wire be unplugged from the cradle, or does it have to stay on the ram mount because it's hard wired? :?:

Garmin Zumo 395LM Motorcycle GPS

Anyone using the Garmin Zumo 395LM Motorcycle GPS unit on their Gold Wing? Would like to hear about your experience with it. The price has recently been reduced by $100 at several locations.

Re: overdrive light

Thought I'd add on to this 5 year old post because my '98 is experiencing the same issue with the OD lamp. (my over drive light comes on and off). It's in overdrive, and the lamp flickers dimly, however if I pull in the clutch lever and come to a stop with the bike still in overdrive, the lamp comes...

Just installed speed bleeders on all my calipers & clutch. I highly recommend them. Makes the job of flushing out the old fluid a breeze. :D

Re: HID Conversion

I too have installed the HID kit from SoCal, and I recommend it. :D One year after I installed it I had a bulb that started acting up...not coming on when I started the bike sometimes. I contacted the company, and they sent me a new bulb & Ballest.

BikerNewsman /The Natural bridge State park is just east of Lexington on rte 11. We left Seviervelle TN and rode to Maysville, Ky where we spent the night. Noticed  this park was on the way  via the lesser traveled roads, we decided to stop. There is a Sky lift that takes you to the top...

Re: Front Brake pad shim

:D Thanks for the reply. Any ideal why the shim is used for the front only caliper? And because you mention swapping pads from side to side, I'm assuming one side wears faster than the other, if that's correct which side wears the fastest, left (linked with rear), or right (front only)?

Front Brake pad shim

I pulled my front wheel off, for the 1st time since I bought my '98, to have a new tire installed. while checking the brake pads on each caliper I found something odd. :?: The right calipers outer pad has a shim on the back side, while the left calipers doesn't. I've looked in the manual, and don't ...

Re: mixing tire brands

Thanks for posting this question norskedan, and glad to hear you've healed up fine. :D I've been wondering the same thing. I bought my '98 two years ago, and the front tire was like new while the rear was close to needing replacing. I replaced the rear with the stock Dunlop, and now a year later the...

Hey maddogg, I switched to HIDs last summer, and I'm very happy with them. I was going to go with a modulator, but when weighing the benefits of each system, I decided that the HIDs made me more visible to cagers plus the added benefit of better night vision, much better :D . I commute to work at 4a...

Re: rear tire on gl1500 goldwing 1995

I've only had my '98 1500 for a year now. It had 14,000 miles on it when I got it. It now has 23,000. I just put a new rear K177 Dunlop on it, as this is what was on it. I notice it was the tire designed for this bike. Does anyone still use them? Seems all the postings I come across, folks are using...
