Re: 85 gl1200 will not go over 50 mph

I ran a tank of SeaFoam through, at first it acted the same, no major differance to include after i put a fresh tank of gas in. But after the second tank and even to now, i've noticed a big difference. My 85 Interstate is running smoother, i'm able to get the RPMs well past 5 when shifting, able to ...

Re: Intermittent Loss of Power

Well, was doing some research, looks like the 84 had the pulse gens and the 85 went away from them. I have the ignition coils (2ea) and rectifier. ideas on how to test them, if not the same method? Now i'm really confused. some diagrams show no Pulse Gen, while others do. This is insane. I guess I w...

I've heard a lot of people suggest the Sea Foam. Does it really work?

Re: New / Old Wing owner Radio/clock issues

I just pick myself up an 85 interstate that had been sitting for 13 years, same thing, didn't understand the key/removal systems. Ended up downloading the entire manual, schematics, etc. The key is actually to remove the stock radio, not clock. in order to remove the clock, you need to disassemble t...

Re: 85 gl1200 will not go over 50 mph

I had the same issue to an extent. I pulled my air filter and ran unfiltered air to see if there were any restrictions. Also you may look in the air box for any debris that would prevent air, especially around the screens. When you replaced the diaphragms, did you happen to check/clean the needles t...

Re: Intermittent Loss of Power

Thank you for the response, I will attempt to test it this weekend. It's strange that some days it will cut out and others it won't so we'll have to see how it plays out. I did download the schematics as well as found another forum that someone described the same issue. Seems rare to have P.Gens go ...

Intermittent Loss of Power

I recently traded for a '85 GL1200 Interstate. It has been sitting under a tarp in a field for about 13 years. Amazingly enough she runs well after replacing 2 of the 4 carburetor slides. She’s kind of a restoration project, but still having a blast since upgrading from a 2000 Honda Shadow 600 VLX. ...
