Re: Is Limited Edition GL1500 a Canadian Version?
Sorry, that message was supposed to go somewhere else. However, on the topic of Canadian bikes, the speedo on the 90 is large metric/small mph indicators. The key has the gl1500 logo over a large maple leaf on white background. Trim has gold goldwing scripting and mocha seat, shelter and seat rain c...

Re: Is Limited Edition GL1500 a Canadian Version?
What color is your 90? According to the paint color reference for 1990 GL1500's: 1990 GL1500 Candy Wineberry, R114CU. Lower cowl colour is Rime Gray, NH276 Carmel Blue, PB224 1990 GL1500 SE Pearl Pacific White, NH251P. Insert colour is Eagle Silver Metallic, NH275M. Lower cowl colour is Ocean Gray M...

Re: Front tire hop
Add me to the tire hop list with Dunlop E4 tire. Could it have anything to do with its suitability for tube or tubeless applications? Mine is tubeless. First time I've had any issue (besides ever-present cupping) with any make front tire on a1500. Feels like an old tire lol.

Re: Relays
Thanx much DW, you've been most helpful! I wrench a lot of my own stuff and basic electrical add ons but relays and circuitry stop me cold. Plus I listen to an old biker friend who has a knack of turning simple things into snake pits. Anyway, my plan from the start is to get my relays here. My Clyme...

Relays
I have an older 1500 (1990) and I think carrying an xtra relay or two is a good idea, but here's the quandry. What ones? Humour me; Assuming they all have standard (for a Goldwing) blade arrangement, and some have different part #s, is the part # due to different amperage handling capacity? For exam...

Re: Quitting motorcycles
Scott, no one can make a decision like the one facing but you. You may be convinced to think one way or another by those you know and still others you've only spoken to but at the end of the day, to thine own self be true. I told myself I was thru with riding last year for reasons much akin to yours...

Re: Just a color question
Hi Ron. My question has been when did the trunk sides, sidecovers and tank sides get accent panels. I remember seeing a wing with an eagle scene painted on the trunk sides at Americade one year. I thought it odd at the time. Must have been an 88 - 90ish? The rotor covers are new Showchrome pieces I ...

Re: Just a color question
The wing in your photo is a 2000 just going by the gold anniversary crest on the chrome apron. (I had a green 2000SE). According to the paint color link, that makes it Pearl Glacier white, while the '90 has Pacific Pearl White nh251p which is the paint code under my gas cap door. The 89 Pacific coas...

Re: Just a color question
Thanx for the link Andy. Looks like the main color and accent colors were unique to the1990 SE in the goldwing line, however I do know of a Pacific Coast I believe to be the same body color. I'll be getting some pacific pearl mixed to keep on hand. Guess I'll see about the accent colour for touch up...

Just a color question
I had a 2000 quite a while ago and the sidecovers, trunk sides and "gas tank" sides had accent panels on them as do most 1500's. My 90 1500SE doesn't have these particular ones. Anyone know when they became standard fare? Anybody know if the panels (assuming they are simply vinyl wraps) ar...

Grommet kits?
Having a tough time finding grommets for my '90SE. Best I've found is from Fort Nine Canada, 5 for about 11 bucks. Are grommets for the 1500 interchangeable with the 1800?

Re: Rotor cover fender piece
Found a great price on Amazon for the 3 piece Showchrome unit. Quick install. Looks like it's always been there. Kept the original silver covers just in case I find a silver fender protector to complete it and return to stock 1990 livery... maybe.

Where do they go?
Stuff disappears, I accept that. Here's a tale of the one that didn't get away. I added a fork brace to my '90 SE, and at the same time thought I would replace my damaged rotor covers. Adding a bolt to the brace it nudged the fork and.... disappeared, a quiet ' tick' the only clue left behind. After...

Re: Rotor cover fender piece
Part #2 is the piece required. Thanks for your help in this. I've been in contact with their Canadian branch and show the part backordered for July 22. An add on to the part number is. (Type 6). Can't reach them till Monday due to the July 1st but does anyone know what that references?

Yes it would be piece 2. Piece 3 as well I would assume (this is area where a section is missing).

Rotor cover fender piece
The rear "U" shaped piece that the front rotor covers attach to is broken (a small section is actually missing). Is this rear piece available separately? I can get a 3 piece chrome version for $200+ and I will go that way as a last resort but my '90 gl 1500 SE rotor covers are the old styl...

Re: Carbon spatter?
Startup is fairly routine....I give it about 3/4 choke, light it up and keep the idle at about 1500, closing the choke as idle permits keeping it choked above the up/down surging range. By the time I have my jacket and lid on, the choke is close to closed. I'm down the driveway and just starting up ...

Re: Carbon spatter?
Thanks for the input everybody, much appreciated. I only asked the question as both my 2000SE and 2000 Valkyrie Interstate never exhibited this residue that I recall. Maybe the exhaust tips on this beauty pointing down just make it more noticeable? Checked and cleaned the plugs a few weeks ago when ...

Carbon spatter?
Another new one for me. My recently purchased '90 gl1500 leaves a black grainy spatter (like improperly reduced paint from an airbrush) on my garage floor when cold started in the morning. I'm assuming its carbon in the actual muffler. I've been using Seafoam since I brought the bike home about 2 mo...

Now that's creative! Got my '09 on Google Maps the hard way just before I sold her lol.

Utopia Backrest installed
Just installed a Utopia backrest on my 1990 Gl1500SE. I've had two others on different bikes, a 2000 Gl1500SE and a 2009 Gl1800. For the record, there isn't really any guesswork to the install. The one-page instruction sheet is very easy to follow. The seat base bracket literally places itself on th...

Re: timing belt question. help!
It works! I wasn't happy with how the timing marks didn't really line up the first time I put the belts on, so, instead of going forward with fingers crossed I went back, took the the belts off and tried again. Don't really know what I changed the 2nd time around, but it worked out great! It works! ...
