Re: Site progress update

Scott, You do all this, and I still have trouble trying to get the time from my phone! You are way over my head.

40, that is all that is needed unless you added more stuff that is not needed. Plus I still have the old one to be rebuilt. Had him do a starter on my old Shadow and that cost me $10 to turn the armature to fix it.

Re: And there goes another one.

Try going to an automotive electrical repair shop. I did, for $160 or less, got a brand new one. He ordered and had it the next day.

Must be that he/she didn't find the problem. Doesn't take much time to really check that fuse.

For it to be Scott, it would have to be in his SPARE time, whatever that is! From what I have seen over the years, I don't believe he has much of that!

Re: Sync. Carburetors

I believe that they now classify Mercury as a hazardous material, thus the high shipping costs. I happen to have a stash of old Mercury switches so I have spare should I need some.

Re: Sync. Carburetors

Way back when, it's been a few years, I had a Honda 500-4 and wanted to check the sync on the carbs. I went looking around the local bike shops trying to find a manometer that would work on four carbs. Let me tell you, they were scarce at that time. Finally, I stumbled onto a motorcycle salvage yard...

Re: WANTED - 1500 Alternator

Take your alternator to an automobile electrical repair shop. I did, and he had the new one the next day. At a cost less than half what other places wanted. Four years later it still works great!

Sorry for the delay as I didn't see your post. The auto shop ordered the same alternator as was in it to begin with.

Re: meant to happen?

That last sentence is the same thing that my wife and son say when they walk through my garage. But guess who can make or find just what they are looking for in that maze. And as soon as you throw it out, you will be looking for it next week, and have to build another one. Son and I just finished ma...

Re: meant to happen?

In the 60s when I got out of the Marines, I was riding Honda 750s. Had three of them that I wish I still had today. In Florida summers, you can expect rain quite often. I got sick of riding in the rain and went looking for a pick up truck and stumbled onto a 1958 Chevy Fleet side for $400 listed in ...

70s TV, What ever happened to the 50s ones? My Dad worked on them and we had one with a 4 inch screen that was bigger than todays microwaves. Watched Mickey Mouse Club on it.

Re: Newly Weds and Old Wings

I built an aircraft engine for a guy that was building a homebuilt biplane. When I got it done and delivered it, I noticed that his wife wasn't around. Asked him about it and he said that he had been working on that plane for 12 years, The wife came to him one day and told him "it was her or th...

Re: Need an alternator guru

I too have a 2000 SE and am on my third alternator. I finally went to an automotive elect shop and he ordered a new one for less than half the price of the others. Didn't have another problem with that one! I put on a cheapo voltmeter also as it is no fun to pull up to a red light and it just quits ...

For disabled vets, it is free. Can be obtained at the entry point of a National Park, and is good for all of them.
