Re: Minimizing effects of ethanol

I'm on my 4th GL1100 and have always used 87 10% alcohol. Never had a problem with operation or parts failures. The fuel has been arround since the late 70's and the Wings were designed for it. Sometimes one can overthink a possible problem. Just enjoy the bike and ride it.

I try to keep the rpms over 3000 rpms to avoid lugging the engine, downshift may be needed up a steep hill.

Re: GL1100 Parts

EBAY is your friend for after market accessories. I use Western Honda.com for oem parts . I don't care about chrome so do not worry about it. Have a small mc shop near by that works on all bikes and will work on my GL1100. You should learn to do routine services yourself to know the machine. Google ...

Re: Choke - where am I going wrong?

When it got down to 0degrees F. I would use 5w30 oil in the Wing and make sure your battery is in good shape and keep charged.

Re: Choke - where am I going wrong?

I.m on my 4th GL1100 and the starting works best is full choke, do not touch the throttle. it will go to about 4000rpm's or more then push choke until it is running about 2000 rpm's. Winter may take a minute or 2 until you can put it in gear and go.. Summer it takes less time but I never touch the t...

Re: Sidecar steering damper

I forgot to mention that if you tighten the steering head bearings 5-10 ft-lbs over the specs that will reduce wobble. I have a 1982 Wing rig and if the setup is close, the wobble occurs around 25-35 mph. I haven't had a steering dampener on my wings since 1988. Have owned 4 GL1100's since 1985, gre...

I understand they are not available , look for a used one or soaking it brake cleaner or even vinegar will clean out the vent hole if that's the problem.

Are you buying the cheaper Chinese starters ? Have had them fail. You're better off buying a rebuilt Japanese starter or a new one.

Always used Marvel Mystery oil to fix it. Drain a quart and add a quart of MMO and drive 1-200 miles then change oil.

I bought an 82 GL1100 some years ago and it ran well but wouldn't much over 70 mph. Finally changed plugs and then ran great. Had about 70,000miles on it when I bought .
