84 1200 engine into 83 Aspencade - how hard?

I'm considering converting an 83 Aspencade to a trike and putting an 84 1200I engine in it. The 84 & 83 engines seem to have the same electrical connections (except for the Aspencade gear position indicator). Is there something else I should consider before going further? The 84 is a basket case; PO...

Re: I might have waited just a slight bit too late...

Wonder how many people are riding cycles today in Buffalo NY? Absolutely none!! 6 ft of snow over the weekend, so you won't be able to even find your bike if it is parked outside. Illinois isn't too bad; roads are clear, but 25 degrees and 20mph winds aren't fun to ride in. However, the golf course ...

Re: 87 Aspy missing - won't fire properly - but idles

If you haven't downloaded the manual from this site, you need to. Go to page 4-5 section 8 for removal of carburetors on an 87 Aspy. It's not bad and the manual has step-by-step procedures with pictures.

Take your time and double check your self.

Re: table lift

I have one of the Harbor Freight table lifts and use it to maintain 4 gold wings. It is stable and will pick the bike up to 30". The only issue I ever had with it was the jack yoke wasn't installed correctly from the factory and I had to take it off and get reinforcements added to the yoke. Works fi...

Re: Smoke

I wouldn't ride very much or very hard with light grade oil in it.

I was suggesting you check your anti-freeze mix to ensure proper strength. However, radiator caps are always good suspects. Check your overflow hose for blockage while you're there.

Re: 1200 interstate front fork out of alignment

If the previous suggestion doesn't help, make sure the right upper shock tube isn't bent. Raise the front wheel off the ground and fully extend the shocks. You should be able to see any bends.

Re: 86 GL1200A Carbs won't sync, won't idle down!

Very nice. Now for some black, gold, or silver pinstrip tape to accentuate the lines, and put the emblems back on. You'll be surprised how many complements you get on your 28 year old bike. I painted my 85 Interstate Corvette gold with black pinstripes and people are surprised that it is almost 30 y...

Re: Smoke

Here's a thought. Was the bike parked on the center or side stand? Leaving it on the side stand for a long period can allow oil to seep into the left hand cylinders and create smoke upon startup. The clicking on the right side could also be attributed to drain-down during extended periods of non-use...

Re: 87 Aspy missing - won't fire properly - but idles

IMHO, you have a carb issue and it will be fixed by pulling the set off and going through them with much patience, tiny (yes, tiny) orifice cleaners, carb cleaner, compressed air, and double-checking yourself. Some 1200s have small filters under the float valve, be sure you look for them and clean/r...

If you're still there, I need a right front upper fork tube for the 82-83 Aspy. Can you help?

Thanks

Re: Fuel mileage

We get 100% regular gasoline at a Citgo station in Salem Illinois. It's about 50 cents more per gallon than the ethanol blend, but I use it for weed eaters, leaf blowers, 1977 GL1000, and a 1978 ElCamino. (Things that don't get a lot of use during the winter.)
