Re: Knock sensor

This problem arose a month ago and I replaced the RH Knock sensor and all was good until yesterday. Rode 400km without problems and then the FI light came on - code 25. FI will go off when shut down and it takes about 40 km before FI comes on again after restarting when hot. After a cold start it ta...

Re: Gl1800 coolant tank removal

Two things Strongly recommend a two piece belly pan - the stainless steel ones take a lot of beating and protect more than just the overflow tank The front section is held on with two aircraft screws and easily removed for oil and filter changes A bolt through the bottom of the engine is a very ugly...

Tip for keeping critters out of air filter is to use the mesh from a used airfilter and form a screen over the inlets
Mesh is flexible and moulds well to the shape of cone.
I used self welding tape to hold in place.

Re: grinding sound

Have a 2004 1800 Had a rumbling noise from clutch and was told by 4 Honda mechanics that at 153K it was to be expected. I pulled the engine out myself and then asked a Honda shop to dismantle the clutch as a special library of tools is required Found the main bearing was scorched and the bearing sup...

I wear GAERNE Aquatech boots and have done so for many years The Road boots are great however the soles do not last as long as I would like so I have changed over to their Aquatech Off road boots which use three adjustable quick lock straps as closures instead of the zip. The advantage is the sole i...

Re: Keeping your windscreen clear during rain

I use Plexus (the spray used on Aircraft windscreens0 - use it on visors and bike screen
Regular use fills the surface and water beads off at speed or runs down easily at slow speed

Re: Salvaged or rebuilt title

Have you checked the front fork tubes
Are they correctly set in the triple tree
If one is slightly lower than the other the front wheel will not be correctly aligned with the frame of the bike

Re: Mouse Proof your GL1800 Air Filter

you can also use the mesh from the air filter
It is easy to mould over the inlet and shape then trim
I finished off by wrapping tape around the outside to hold it in place and cover the ends of the wire

Thanks PastoT The diff is fine and I change the oil every 12 months regardless of mileage - only takes a dollar or so of oil My problem is with the gearbox - the primary drive shaft / first motion shaft - sounds like the bearing is running rough I am not sure if I have just become overly sensitive t...

Plexus spray
This is used on aircraft windscreens - it will help and also make it easier to remove bugs from the screen

Definitely do not use Rain X

Gearbox bearings

Anyone had an issue with noisy bearings from gearbox at low speed < 15mph (25kph) Was escorting a cyclist a few weeks ago on a charity ride and the noise made me think the bearings on the output shaft were shot. Re: Installing cig lighter receptacle in faring box

The 3P power supply for the cig socket can be found in the plastic sock at the upper LH corner of the opening once the glovebox is removed
It is a bit fiddly to reach

There is a mark on the outside of the glovebox to indicate the drill hole for the socket

Re: 2002 Goldwing hasn't been run in over 10 years.

Remove the centre panel on the front cover of the engine and use a socket to rotate the engine by hand As the bike has not been run for so long I would remove the spark plugs to make this easier. Change the oil, filter, brake and clutch fluid, fuel in the tank and have a good look at the coolant. It...
