Re: 2007 GL1800 Rear rotor change

For those who read this in the future those two Phillips head screws are very much secured with torque and Locktite. You'll want a impact driver with a hardened tool bit filed to specifically fit perfectly with in the JIS screw. The bit that came with mine actually twisted and almost messed up the s...

Re: Radio buttons sticking

An air hose works nicely, haven't tried canned air but I bet that would also work. I've changed out my radio lights a couple times and that also gave me the opportunity to clean the rubber button pad that covers the top of the radio circuit board itself (which also channels water away from the circu...

Re: DUNLOP Elite 4 tires millage

I've been getting about 17k out of my E-4s, I run them at their sidewall max pressure and stave off feathering and cupping til somewhere between 12-15k miles. I do tow a trailer and sometimes ride 2 up in the hot dessert and that definitely impacts tire wear. I end up changing my rubber out incident...

Re: Bluetooth & mp3 - check my thoughts

Iny case I have 2 Sena 10S and they are paired to 2 Sena Freewire and can hear all bike audio and use the CB or Intercom. I do have the microphonic issue. We can connect direct headset to headset vox intercom but if it's real windy it stays on and bike audio is disconnected. There is a company that ...

Re: Please help

After removing the 4 reusable plastic pocket rivets, lift the pocket out by the rear (shallow) end first and pull toward the rear of the bike. If the lighter socket was installed at the designated drill center point the socket body should lever down deeper into the shelter and not drag or catch on t...

Re: OEM Battery Life?

My bikes original battery last until about 2015 or 2016, my bike is an 02! I was blown away. My current battery running fine for 4+ years. I do carry an XP-5 battery jump system just in case, its handy for more that self rescue. I do use a battery tender in the winter but also ride pretty much year ...

Re: cruise and headlights

If you use a heavy grease for your clutch and brake levers it could be cold enough to prevent your levers from returning to the forward most position and thus preventing cruise control for setting. Could also be unrelated and simply worn lever bushings; retry cruise while pushing the lever(s) forwar...

Re: valve stems

Straight valves on the 1800 make servicing your air very difficult on the road, not all air hoses will seat well on the valve or even reach it. Turning 90 degree valves to the right works but without the plastic support rubber stock valves will wear out do to centripetal force flexing them up and do...

Re: Bluetooth & mp3 - check my thoughts

If you're still fighting the microphonics going wireless won't defeat it. The issue is in the design of the earlier GL1800 radios. It should be a non-issue with the bike's intercom turned off. To test - tap on the shelter above the gas door; if the intercom is on you can hear it in your helmet wired...

Re: Front wheel removal to have a tire change

Having pulled the front tire from my 02 many times I find it a little less work to simply leave the left side brake caliper and secondary master cylinder in place. Also I support the front of the bike on a stack of 2x4s and strap the center stand forward to the crash bars. Just take your time guidin...

Re: Feed back through speaker when using Freewire

I use Freewire devices on my 02 for pilot and pillion, and one thing you shouldn't do is run the external speakers. The original issue is one of audio feedback between the speakers and the hot mic in your helmet. Run both the Radio audio and CB to your helmet headphones and that should stop. The ech...

Hey Tom, follow Idahoan, thanks for the information. I will run my new set at max pressure. You were more help than the local Honda shop.
I also balance with beads. The main reason I've stuck with the E-3/4s is they've saved my hiney twice as unadvertised run flats.

Re: Reviews on Dunlap Elite 4 tires

You can't run the recommended gl1800 pressures on the Elites. I find the max pressure on the tire prevents cupping and feathering for thousands more miles. As for the left side of the front tire wearing it is also impacted by left turns that are longer and typically faster. If it is at 38 it's 3 psi...

Re: Bike/Trailer wobble

I've pulled my tag-a-long for nearly 20k. Only replaced the tires last summer and bearings the summer before. It's been great for me. I also have a time out camper but have been stuck local with work so only a few thousand miles added to it. Hopefully next season I'll get a lot more free time to tra...

Re: Bike/Trailer wobble

Never thought of a generator but that's an idea. I use a cooler rack there but if it's empty out would be much help for me. Loading heavier things to the front certainly would help. I actually had to reduce tongue weight at times so it is a learning process depending on the trailer and what is loaded.

Re: Bike/Trailer wobble

I feel everyone pretty much hit it on the head, too little tongue weight. I've had as much as 60lbs tongue weight on my 2002 with a loaded trailer, I would not want to go beyond that, 30-40 lbs seems about right. In the wagging always appears between 45-55mph for some reason and I've experienced it ...

Re: Reviews on Dunlap Elite 4 tires

I'm on my second set and the first served me well with over 16k miles on them before swapping them for fresh ones before a 4k mile trip. I actually saved the used set just incase I needed 2-3k miles worth of tire in a pinch. They were wearing a bit, left side front and some rear tire feathering. I r...

Re: satellite radio

I know this is an older thread but I found RAM mounts work well with my Sirius radio. I use a Clutch/Brake reservoir clamp mount, a short 1" extender and a flat mount 1" ball that bolts perfect to the 4 mount holes of the dock. Once the socket on stock Starmate 3 or 8 dock is removed allows the RAM ...

Re: 1800 tires

All tires not just Dunlops will cup and feather even the new E-4s but I run beads and Max pressure and they wear very long for me 17-19k miles. Dunlops just get attacked a lot more. If you want to wear them fast run then few psi below max (-3 psi is just enough). I stuck with the E-3/4s because both...

Re: polishing a windscreen

I'd be hesitant but if you go to a plastic supply house I'll bet they suggest novus polishes. I use the Novus 1 2 & 3 treatment of lexan and other plastics with good result, but I don't really look through them like a windscreen. The three are buying, polishing and finishing compounds that are used ...

Re: Cam tensioner tools

The one I linked to, worked well on my non ABS 02. Real issue was working around the cooling hoses top right side, it's pretty tight there and the tool is almost to long to insert into the tensioner but it worked well otherwise.

That's exactly my plan on the morning. I just replaced coils and stripped my 02 down so I can check valves first thing in the morning while my patience and eyesight is better. I bought a metric feeler gauge, tensioner and shim kit a couple months ago.

Re: 2012 cb operating manual/instructions

Good on ya zoomie! Hope you find a CB that's disconnected in there, but I too started without one. Being an old CB tech I've never had a vehicle without one. There are a few OEM and after market radios, mine is an aftermarket but no-longer has support ( but works well). Many options for different fr...
