Re: polishing a windscreen

I'd be hesitant but if you go to a plastic supply house I'll bet they suggest novus polishes. I use the Novus 1 2 & 3 treatment of lexan and other plastics with good result, but I don't really look through them like a windscreen. The three are buying, polishing and finishing compounds that are used ...

Re: Cam tensioner tools

The one I linked to, worked well on my non ABS 02. Real issue was working around the cooling hoses top right side, it's pretty tight there and the tool is almost to long to insert into the tensioner but it worked well otherwise.

Re: Cam tensioner tools

That's exactly my plan on the morning. I just replaced coils and stripped my 02 down so I can check valves first thing in the morning while my patience and eyesight is better. I bought a metric feeler gauge, tensioner and shim kit a couple months ago.

Re: 2012 cb operating manual/instructions

Good on ya zoomie! Hope you find a CB that's disconnected in there, but I too started without one. Being an old CB tech I've never had a vehicle without one. There are a few OEM and after market radios, mine is an aftermarket but no-longer has support ( but works well). Many options for different fr...

Re: 2012 cb operating manual/instructions

You can just look under the floor of the trunk and see if there is a CB in there. There is an antenna combiner on the market that would allow the CB use with only one antenna, but the antenna would not appear to be the Stainless stock radio antenna. In all likely hood though oilboy1162 is right, its...

Re: 2002 Goldwing tries to die after riding for a while

Not sure you'd get a knock sensor FI or anything at all but have you check the ignition coils for electrical leaks. If you remove inner cowl behind the forks and start her up in a dark garage, you might actually see a light show! My thought is after warming up and stopping the heat rises and could b...

Re: kuryakyn Highway Pegs Too Heavy?

I agree the Kury pegs and Highway pegs are heavy, but there not like 10 pounds. We don't max out the suspension and tires but I'm a skinny ole goober. Micko pegs up front sure ride better and are lighter but even more pricey. I would have chosen Micko's over my Kury Ergo IIIs any day but money was a...

Re: CB Radio

I bought the Midland 75-822. You could probably mount it and wire it to your intercom. I think I saw goldwing specific kit to do so. S windfall tax return gave me $ for my evolution mp3 before I could mount the handheld.

Re: CB Radio

OEM cb is pricey, no doubt. I see a faor share on eBay and various formula but for the 1800 there are two versions..gen 1 and gen 2. It may be the wiring harness alone I'm not sure. I bought the last model from mp3 and out works nicely for me, but they've vanished along with support so buyer beware ...

Re: Rear shock height

Never had a real issue with my 02 and my bags are always packed and heavy. one thing that will stop most of us is being left in gear! Always grab and pull the left grip and clutch lever - it saves the left heated grip from damage and overrides the possibility of having left it in gear. If you haven'...

Re: GL1800 heated seat on GL1800 (without heat option)

I have an 02 with 09 seat and an unknown year backrest wired and working fine. Easiest wire up is a commercial heat controller/dual controller, but I built a pair of 12v pulse width modulators for mine. The pins related prior are correct, but note there are components in the seat heaters that requir...

Re: Changing rear brake pads on 202 GL1800A

I had to use an impact driver to break loose the two screws holding the rear rotor in place. To square up with mallet I removed my left muffler, easy peasy off and on again. Certainly you have to carefully align pipe when you reinsert the muffler, but I loosened the clamp screw a good bit beyond nee...

I got a killer deal on a Time Out so I went with it. I do like it and much appreciate that the entire inside is off the ground & mud, and better yet a challenge for the creepy crawlies enter. Of course it takes some practice to set up quickly. Mine takes me about 15 minutes single handed but the fir...

Re: Changing rear brake pads on 202 GL1800A

Red Ron, you might be on to something. I just replaced my pads and rotors all around a couple weeks ago, but normally I'd replace pads without removing the wheels. The front is nothing to remove to clean the calipers but the rear is at a bad angle and location to clean and compress the cylinders. Ob...

Re: Flasher Issue

Go to your auto parts shop and get some CRC electronic spray cleaner. Avoid wet lubrication - it will catch dust and dirt compounding the future problems but I have use WD-40 in a pinch until I could CRC spray the switch out. Spray CRC in and around the edges of the switch and work in 5-10 times and...

Re: CB Radio

First you'll need a means to talk to the CB, a external mic and adapter or a wired headset with a microphone, Short of that the CB is receive only, which still can serve a useful purpose. If you have wireless BT helmet headsets or are considering them I use the SENA 10S and a Sena Freewire dongle fo...

Re: Emergency Hazard Flashers

I carry a small can of CRC most of the time for all the switches. Over time their lube dries out and gunks up, dust and grit work their way in and many of our switches become erratic. Mute, Start, Reverse and Hazard switches are quite common but sooner or later we all become victims to mother nature...

Re: Glitches on GL 1800's ??

If I had my choice I would find a low mileage 2006 and up with all its recalls complete. Having said that I bought a 2002 nearly 5 years ago and have had no issues. All recalls were complete at the time and I'm holding off on the rear brake recalls that seem less than the actual solution. I've had n...

Between the 05 and 06 model their is likely a change as the speakers changed size with the premium audio. My guess is anything 01-05 would be different from 06-10. I'd seek 06 to 10 model only.

I have no remote, that may be a 20s only item but either way I don't have one with my 10S setup. The Freewire is simply the two way audio dongle connecting audio between the bike and helmet; it does have an auxiliary input but nothing fancy beyond that. I could easily see a remote to work the featur...

A new twist to your question is the year Goldwing you are purchasing. The 2018 is wireless only, until an aftermarket wired system is introduced. 2001-2017 are native wired with the pigtails available to plug into, if you have wired helmets or install wired headsets that would likely be the least ex...

I just installed risers on my 02 and its not a bad job, although a second pair of hands helps hold the bars back up while threading in the replacement bolts.
