Re: I'm feeling dark... new Austone Taxi Tire

... I run the Vredestein at 44lbs. ... I also ran the Vredestein tire on my 1500 - It had 30,000 miles on it when I took it off-- I went through 2 front tires while I used the 1 rear ;) For ME - I prefer a Motorcycle tire - even after 30K of testing I could not get used to the feel - And I was alwa...

Re: LED headlight bulbs

I have used all the different bulbs - except HID - The Extreme Vision bulbs burn out in a year for me as I ride a lot The ones that last aren't too bright.. Brighter bulbs burn out sooner. I think HIDs create heat when working ? And DO nothing to lower energy needs from your electrical system...(th...

Re: front wheel wobble

I just fixed the wobble on my 2002 this past weekend...
I took off the cupped tires which were nearing their end of use and placed on NEW rubber front & rear -
Good to go for another 10,000 miles -
I will just change tires instead of trying to get those last few 1000 miles out of a set.

Re: Do you look thru

For over 100,000 miles I looked THROUGH a Tall Tulsa on my 1500 - It was great - no wind, nearly perfect visibility (most of the time) - adn the slope of the Tulsa gave me an aerodynamic advantage over the OEM I DID NOT LIKE IT in FOG -- It was terrible - I couldn't see anything so I rode standing ...

Re: Headlight wattage

If you want more light from your headlight, you'd be better off going with LEDs, which use less power, create less heat, and put out more light. THIS IS TRUTH AND the LEDs are a pure white light like daylight (you've seen them on cars) and for me--light up the road better than the old yellowish or ...

Re: Whats the deal with driver backrest prices?

Much of my riding experience is with a backrest Type/style doesn't matter for my point here. I DO find that when I am riding the twisty sections of road I need to remind myself to get OFF the backrest. I lean back too much I think and it can cause me to be late on my turn ins sometime. I am a bette...

Re: Whats the deal with driver backrest prices?

Thank you for the feedback everyone! I guess I just expect value for my money. $200 for a backrest is absurd in the extreme to me. I could buy a recliner for my living room for that price lol. After looking around seems I need a through the seat type as the rail type causes interference for the pas...

As usual, my cousin's bother's father-inlaw's uncle had a problem with these. No first hand information. Re: Rear shock height

Placing a Wing on the center stand is more about technique than strength - Techs at the dealership no precious little about actually OWNING and USING a Goldwing. They are nearly all younger than 35 and ride sport bikes (at least in my area) Even a professed Goldwing shop near me had mis-information ...

Re: Strong gas smell on shutdown

The following is my theory and my opinions - I owned 2 GL1500s and put 100,000+ miles on them each over time The fuel tank on the 1500 sits over the engine. The engine generates heat - When parked the engine heats up the fuel and causes it to expand and off vent fumes- When the fuel tank is FULL th...

Re: Newby to 1800 CB secrets?

I did this to my 2002 - Bought the OEM CB - It is the best and works well - It is a false economy to go with an after market CB - some work , some do not. The install is pretty easy - just take your time and follow the directions- The CB antenna you buy should be tuned well enough for short transmi...

Re: Tires - Edumacate me

I have used a few brands on my GL1800 with the following results: Bridgestone G702/G704 combination - decent tires- grip in wet and dry- quiet- handling good longevity about 9500 miles rear is done. Avon Cobras - Good tire in wet and dry, handling, a bit noisy but not bad, 12500 and counting right ...

Re: Reusable Oil Filters

...My first thought was ...WHY BOTHER ? Filters are reasonably cheap - using the OEM is the easiest - Some (like me) Buy an oil change at Wal*mart for about $25 which uses Synthetic Oil and a non-OEM filter. I have sent oil samples into Blackstone Labs for analysis after 6000 and 8000 miles of use ...
