Re: At wits end . . . .

When I had my 96 it would act in a similar fashion sometimes. IF you had less than a 1/2 tank of fuel when this happened - And it was hot or the engine was hot - I suspect the fuel pump is weak - The 1500 will keep feeding fuel while the tank is 1/2 or above via gravity - after that the next 1/2 of ...

Re: Man, what a noise!!!

Looking at your profile it lists you are riding Double Darkside -
Hopefully they don't use that against you to dodge the issue of a faulty driveline -

Re: Necessary to periodically re-inspect for frame cracks?

There were 100s of bike produced that never developed any cracks
Some did crack - I won an '02 and my son has an '03 and we look them over pretty often and have the dealer inspect when we can -
Both bikes are around 50K and so far -- so good ...

Re: Gl1800 and Avon Cobra tires

Unless Avon has come out with a new Cobra, stay away from the rear unless you want this to happen. Mine blew at 70 mph and I was able to get it to the side of the road without any problems. There are many reports of this happening to the rear on other GW forums. The tire only had about 8K miles on ...

Re: Mystery Sound on a 84' 1200A

Thanks I found out what was causing the tapping, I put Seafoam in the oil and drive it for 70 miles and changed my gas from the low end of the gas being sold today to a 97 octane , within 5 miles the tapping went away. thanks everyone My bet is the Seafoam in the oil cleared the clogged oil port - ...

Re: Mystery Sound on a 84' 1200A

Is it a clacking sound ?
There is an oil port inside the head that feeds the rockers with a squirt of oil-
When that clogs up from old dirty oil it can be a real problem -
intermittent clacking is the signal -

Re: Shifter Pivot - Ordered one, now a question

Should be pretty straight forward - I have done 3 of them over the years -- 2 for me and 1 for a riding buddy Only on my '96 did I have any clearance issues -- I actually removed the header to get to it easier.. Be patient -- it will happen - In my opinion -- adding the pivot without changing the se...

Re: SuperbrightLEDs.com Mini-Aux Driving Lights

Thanks Wingsconsin! Your reply and photos were short and sweet. Q) Would a matched pair of auxiliary driving lights with a 30 degree beam angle, whatever the lumens, be too wide of a beam to use without blinding on-coming traffic? That is, if I want to stay with a matched pair of lights, should I o...

Thanks again for the help ;) I'm sure I'll be back with another dumb question soon. The only dumb question is the one you didn't ask... Re: Gl1800 and Avon Cobra tires

well, here's my 2 cents. have a set of cobras front and rear with 16k miles on them . up till now loved them. great handling and STILL 42+ mpg. but, last weekend with a goldwing ride i noticed a strange handling problem when cornering to the right. VERY squirely. got home and did an inspection and ...

Re: Left Bank carbs won’t sync

I remember this problem on my old 1100 as well when I first got it. The way I got around it was to synch them at higher RPMS - Then to back the RPMs down and re-synch -- then repeat and repeat until I got it right. The idle adjustment screw got a lot of work that day ... But eventually I got it near...

Re: Headlight Will Not Come On

Suspect your fuse box - I had this problem on a 1980 and it turned out the corrosion on the glass fuse ends caused enough heat to actually melt the fuse holder. One symptom of the fuse issue was the headlight wouldn't work -- If that is it there is a thread about changing the fuse block entirely - y...

Re: Tail of the dragon

When riding the "Back", I stay at Hungry Mother State Park, in one of the cabins. Most of our rides started from there-there wasn't much from Marion to there. You stopped the video way too soon, and didn't show the real tight switchbacks, elevation changes, or any of the logging trucks coming at yo...

Re: Cost of a routine valve adjustment?

I'm wondering if my local shop is excessive in their fees. I just paid $680 for a valve adjustment on my '08 GL1800---nothing else, just the valves. The invoice said it took 6 hours, and the valve gaskets were $24 each. I can see it taking me six hours, but a pro mechanic? Probably be the last time...

I also ran the Vredestein tire on my 1500 - It had 30,000 miles on it when I took it off-- I went through 2 front tires while I used the 1 rear ;) For ME - I prefer a Motorcycle tire - even after 30K of testing I could not get used to the feel - And I was alwa...

Re: LED headlight bulbs

I have used all the different bulbs - except HID - The Extreme Vision bulbs burn out in a year for me as I ride a lot The ones that last aren't too bright.. Brighter bulbs burn out sooner. I think HIDs create heat when working ? And DO nothing to lower energy needs from your electrical system...(th...

Re: front wheel wobble

I just fixed the wobble on my 2002 this past weekend...
I took off the cupped tires which were nearing their end of use and placed on NEW rubber front & rear -
Good to go for another 10,000 miles -
I will just change tires instead of trying to get those last few 1000 miles out of a set.

Re: Do you look thru

For over 100,000 miles I looked THROUGH a Tall Tulsa on my 1500 - It was great - no wind, nearly perfect visibility (most of the time) - adn the slope of the Tulsa gave me an aerodynamic advantage over the OEM I DID NOT LIKE IT in FOG -- It was terrible - I couldn't see anything so I rode standing ...
