Re: weak stopping power

Nigel My experience with many of these old bikes (Goldwings and others) is that a lack of maintenance by previous owners brings new owners issues - Likely the brake system would benefit from a complete fluid exchange as well as possible some new brake lines (stainless steel are best but NEW rubber w...

Re: 2007 GL1800 Rear rotor change

For those who read this in the future those two Phillips head screws are very much secured with torque and Locktite. You'll want a impact driver with a hardened tool bit filed to specifically fit perfectly with in the JIS screw. The bit that came with mine actually twisted and almost messed up the ...

Re: Final drive on GL1800

I put about 4 miles on a Henry’s final drive so far and then loaded it on the trailer. I did like the change so far as the 1st gear didn’t seem like such a creeper gear now. Hoping to get some riding in the southern states this winter. I found it real easy to swap out. I have about 1000 miles on th...

Re: 07 Gl1800 im in pain!

I have found the SEAT (saddle) is the most important element of comfort for long distance riding - I have the AeroPegs from Rivco, and Mic-o-pegs too but rarely use them - I also spent (more than a $1000) on my Diamond Custom Seat and backrest - Best money I ever spent - ALL my bikes have had a Dia...

Re: 1982 Goldwing noise at idle

My bet is a carb synch will clear it up a lot -
If it 'rattles' a little as you add throttle - I think synch is out a little -
That is a challenge on these bikes - but you can get it there with some patience -

Re: Michelin Commander II Tires

10K update on the Commander II on my 08. I started to take a long trip this week and was checking over the bike and found that my front tire was worn down enough that I cancelled my trip. The rear tire has more miles left, but I was surprised at how much the front had worn in such a short time. I h...

Re: Final drive on GL1800

Anyone else having trouble ordering a new final drive? They said new stock in on the 15th but site still says sold out. No response thru email. Henry (make of the final drives) is a very busy fellow I surmise - I don't think he checks his email very often - I have experienced some delays as well in...

Re: Final drive on GL1800

Thanks for keeping this updated Wingsconsin On your hanging brake, have you had the recall done since the last recall in 2015/16 where they replace the rear master cylinder and the secondary master on the L fork? Yes I had the recall done ;) This was my fault (I think) as I greased the pad pin when...

Re: fairing molding repair

The fairing molding on both sides of my bike have broken attachment points at the bottom, has anyone attempted to fix them? I won't replace them with chrome if anyone suggests that route. I thought maybe building something up with ABS cement might work? I'm guessing that you are talking about the t...

1. Corbin seat, I really like the seat backrest combo with matching welts but have a concern about the cost! 2. Vance & Hines mufflers, look nice and sound great but same concern about cost/value 3. Progressive shock/spring front fork dual damper upgrade. Right now I have some accessories that I re...

Re: Final drive on GL1800

Like most of us, there have been times when I tried to up-shift only to find I was already in fifth gear. There have also been times when I was cruising at 55-60 range for some time before realizing I was still in fourth gear. One engineering point to share. I believe that significant, measurable M...

Re: Final drive on GL1800

Better Fuel Economy is a by product and nice extra -- But it is not about that -- *Opinion follows- It is to make 1st gear more friendly (less harsh & jerky) - And to make the OD taller for the higher speeds we run now-a-days on the Interstate (less RPMs) 4000 RPM in OD now may be about 110 MPH -- ...

Re: UPDATE ON MY Final drive on GL1800

I MAY have overfilled it and have seen evidence on oil splashing out :( A few tablespoons have been drained off and now I am waiting for it to stop blowing out (greatly diminished already) That seems to be a common issue. I know of three out of three that have done the same thing. Making sure the b...

Re: Final drive on GL1800

You really only need to remove the right muffler to get decent access to the nuts holding the final drive in place. And, you can actually do all you need to do to the rear caliper without removing the saddlebags. But it does open up the area quite a bit with the saddlebags out of the way. It's been...

Re: Final drive on GL1800

Yikes! You had to take the saddlebag off to install it? I plan on ordering one when Henry has inventory. (He said middle of October) I hoped just to remove the back access between the bags and roll the tire out and remove/install the final drive. Didn't have to -- But I wanted access to the brakes ...
