Re: Front wheel removal to have a tire change

Took a chance to take advantage of last saturday's 58 degrees here in illinois, had to air up a low front tire, to be expected late winter. But to my surprise, the tire was low, hot, and shot 20 miles later. Looked in the DIY to see how to remove the wheel so I can take it to the shop for n...

Re: Fourth Annual GoldwingDocs Gathering - Aug 19-23 2020

One of the "problems" we had on the 3rd Gathering was the weather. For the past three years we kind of "pushed" the envelope and last year we got bit. Mornings was great for riding but afternoons saw rain every day. Weather also forced us to cancel the Little Switzerland route and instead we went t...

Re: Front wheel dilemma

Thanks Guys ! My local Honda dealer said that they were not interchangeable ..... I have done it on my '02 - I purchase BLACK F6B and BLACK Goldwing wheels for my Wing (I have 2 sets Front & Rear) And SOLD the aluminum versions - TPMS isn't a thing on my '02 so the wheels WITH the TPMS still work.....

Interesting ... What say you Sire ? aka King Brett. This, or something similar is all I was asking for. However, the document is 11 years old and presumably relates to a machine no longer owned by 5m0k3y, judging by his list of current motorcycles. If you wish, I will draft a letter for you to send...

This is a screenshot of a letter from Avon Tyres, part of Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. Austone Tyres were a brand owned by Cooper Tires until recently (although the brand is now part of Prinx-Chengsan of China). Austone was of course, a very popular car tyre used by Goldwing owners. The letter is sel...

the group could stay tighter together and not out-range themselves Once the line of riders stretches out a few miles -- no hope to keep the tail with the lead . Staying tighter sounds like a good idea in general. Maybe a discussion with the entire group as we get started on our first day and reemph...

Re: Darkside: No Taxi Tire...now what?

WHY put an auto tire on a M/C ? is it price? ok..what is your life worth? $20-$30? Is it tire wear? (also PRICE) no tire manufacturer - none, zip, nada- bupkiss- will sign off on an auto tire on a m/c. The sidewall is the issue. Car tires are not made to lean over like bikes. Yeah, yeah. I know- it...

Re: front end bouncey ride on GL1800

I would check a few things --- Condition of the front tire -- Cupping ? Old ? delamination of a ply? Bulging ? Pressure ? Check the anti-dive system - if they un-did that and din;t put it back together right it could be binding causing a shock over every crack in the road surface Suspension is alwa...

Re: Relays: What they are, how they work, how to replace them (Video)

When I had my 1500 I owned a few of these first gen relays - they worked fine. Then I started a resto-mod on my 1983 GS850 and needed a good quality set of relays for electrical systems I installed - The GS850 was notoriously under powered with a stator and R & R system that didn't work as well as ...

Re: Darkside: No Taxi Tire...now what?

The tire width issue often gets confused between the GL1500 and the GL1800

then 1800 can accommodate a slightly wider tire I believe (?) --

Do your research and KNOW whjat will fit before you spend $$ on it ---

The cheapest thing on a Goldwing is the rider :geek: Munk's Maxim states -- "There is no such thing as a cheap motorcycle" My Goldwing did not come with a CB - Knowing that CB is the typical and usual way Goldwing riders communicate I bought one and installed it. My Suzuki GS850 group uses Sena sys...

October 2012 was when I did that conversion and post -- I do not remember how long it took -- I suppose about 3 hours once I had all the parts sourced - But I did a great job on it -- take your time and do it once to the best of your ability and it will last well beyond your use of the bike. ..The Goldwings are nearly perfectly engineered engines. I have never heard of anyone having an oil related problem regardless of what they run. Is a 1000 mile trip one way considered IBR or what is the minimum distance? The first qualifying IBA ride is the SaddleSore 1000 (SS1000) - It is 1000 miles in under 24 hours (typically about a 16-18 hour ride) There are very strict documentation requirements - which you can read all about on the I...

The early years GL1800 had a considerable amount of heat pouring out from the radiators - I think (?) they changed the design later ('05?) - to flow the heat a bit differently- I have an '02 and my son has an '03 -- Much of our discomfort is relieved by changing from highway boards & pegs that faste...

Re: Reserve Fuel?

On my GL1800 (2002) and my Sons GL1800 (2003) we can go routinely go 200 Miles on a tank of fuel - At that point he warning light comes on and we put in about 5.3-5.4 gallons of fuel The GL1800 holds about 6.5 gallons (+/-) so we have about a gallon left . AT THAT TIME - you should know your average...
