Re: How to replace your radiator hoses

I would be willing to bet that factory trained Honda mechanics are/were smaller than you and can get their hands in places you cannot. :D

Re: Pipes

The thousand is just as forgiving on intake as exhaust. I run a Weber 28/32 progressive on a water cooled intake, and 36 inch straight pipes, with no baffles. Gives a combined mpg of just under 40. Plenty of power low and high. And passes emissions! :D Take a micrometer and measure the outside diame...

Re: How to replace your radiator hoses

Thermostat is at the end of the top hose inside the housing.
The lower hose goes to the pump housing.
Which figures, because the lower hose and housing are really easy to get to.

Re: I'm back...

If you are taking any kind of a load, flying is not an option at all. So you drive, take the train ( AmTrak doesn't even go through Phoenix, Az. The closest station is in Maricopa 45 miles to the south) or the bus. Shipping anything of any size is cost prohibitive. So you are stuck driving your self...

Re: I'm back...

I had similar experiences last year when I had to go to Switzerland for a family emergency. My flight into O'Hare in Chicago got grounded 35 miles west of Chicago for two hours. Naturally the flight from Chicago to Madrid had already left. Ibenea Air (probably spelled wrong). Got re-booked on Britis...

Re: Counter Weight

Well, seeing as how I have ridden one of these with out a headlight assembly on it, without problems, I don't follow the logic.

But then again. ignorance is bliss. I did not know I was supposed to have problems with it, so I didn't have any. But that is just my experience. Others will vary.

Re: Counter Weight

I don't know why, but I can not get my head wrapped around that concept of adding MORE weight to the front of the bike when you put that big hulking fairing on there. Which has it's own headlight. Just doesn't make sense to me. When I pulled my fairing off to do work on the radiator and other items ...

Re: 1976 or 1979???

That is a throttle adjustment, the clutch cable runs down the right side of the frame either under or just to the inside of the right fake tank cover. The second adjuster is under the clutch cover just below where the clutch cable goes into the engine case at the right rear of the engine. Once the c...

Re: 1976 or 1979???

May be a FrankenBike. The gauge cluster is what came on the '78-'79 models, so the fake tank has been changed. Under the left side fold down cover, is there a fuse block and four reddish brown rectangular things in a holder? that would make the frame a '75-'77. on the right side of the neck you shou...

Re: new guy in phx az

Check that plug between the alternator and the regulator. Under the left side cover in front of the battery. That plug is an extreme weak link on the thousands, and the 1100's also. I cut it out and soldered the yellow wires one by one. doesn't matter which wire from the alternator to which wire fro...

Re: temp gauge pegs out

Your gauges are analog gauges. You may mean you want digital gauges for numbers to show up.

Although I do agree that the temp gauge could use some numbers on it, to go along with the markers.

Re: Build a GL1000 Weber Manifold Video

I know this is six months later. The center piece for that is the air-cooled VW center section used after market to install a progressive carberetor on the type III squarebacks. One of those kits can be picked up complete with carberetor for 400 bucks, new. Then you just modify the runners, or repla...

Also, maybe the mufflers, if they can be separated from the headers.
I don't remember, been close to ten years since I owned a GL500, which used the same ones, I think.

I cannot tell you, I modified mine to run a water-cooled Weber progressive two barrel.
That one however, I can tell you doesn't seem to care if you run mufflers or straight pipes.

Re: GL650 parts work on a GL1000?

The fairing and saddle bags will work if you can come up with the proper mounting brackets. Or fabricate your own.
Handle bars, maybe. Headlight assembly, if you have that for the bike without the fairing. Maybe the turn signal lights and the taillight.
