Re: Goldwing fuel pump

I was afraid of that. Thought I would have a flooding issue though, which I haven't. Guess I will switch it out with the NAPA/Carter pump, and see if that works better. Don't have any idea what any of them are putting out as far as pressure, but found the Carter P72190 on Amazon for $36. so will tr...

Re: Gl1500 1989 Clutch

I replaced mine on 1990 1500. My advice would be replace all plates and spring. Your crunching gears sound on takeoff will be gone. Gl1500 1989 Clutch

Hi just removed the clutch as I thought they were worn crunching gears when pulling away. I've check the friction plates they are all well within the service limit and all the same thickness at 3.79mm limit is 3.5mm. the clutch spring is a bit low and near its service limit so will replace. But not ...

Re: GL1000 weaving, wobbling, wallowing

You said that you checked the tyre pressure but have you checked the tyres for bulges or out of shape buckled wheels.

Also I have noticed you posted about wobble head shake and handling problems a few years back is this the same bike?

Re: GL1000 weaving, wobbling, wallowing

Being a 76 model this would have spoked wheels have you checked these. or the wheels may be buckled. it sounds like you have been through most things Not sure how tight the spokes should be. but I can remember some one saying about tapping each one and listing at the sound if it a dull sound they we...

Re: New coils with old points

On my 1978 I had the same problem I could not get the split timing set up right. the only way I could get it right was to file some off one pickup to close then up so I could time it. I believe this only happens on the 78/9 models as the cam timing is different.

A Valkrie is about 50kg lighter than a Gl1500. you would have been better off getting a standard gl1500 coil shock and fitting that

Thank you, I never thought of using a Jag. rear end. What was your final wheel base.
Its no longer than a two 1500 and is jaguar width

And it sits nicely between the panniers

Re: trike rear end

I used a solid axle on my 1500 was ok but if you hit a pot hole it shock to whole trike. so changed it to a xj6 jaguar much better on the ride and still kept the panniers :D

I would do a compression test. that would show up bad valves, rings, gasket.

Re: If it sounds like the valves are too loose...

NO, the slides are doing absolutely nothing at idle. Reading from the originale post. it say the noise is. When it is between 3 & 5k. Thats not idle. Yes. Unfortunately for me I now also hear it at idle. So that excludes the carbs? Is this since you put it back together after checking the cams?

Sorry, I had taken the 1st disc out of a clutch pack I had on the shelf and measured it. I went back and took out the second friction disc, it measures 120mm inside. I hadn't noticed that first one being different.
Thats ok. thanks for rechecking.

How about 127mm (5.010") ID, 147mm (5.790") OD
Thanks.
I see there a lot narrower on the friction area than the gl1000 ones.
