Re: Oops, this one went way too far!

Even if you regularly check your tires, keep in mind that the last 1/3 wears really, really quickly.

John, you're too heavy handed! As long as I run under 75mph, I get 37-40 consistently w/my '93-1500.

Re: What are you planning for upgrades in 2020?

Well my 1500 got smashed up two years ago..... My upgrades are, unhappily, not getting the new Gold Wing and most likely getting the Star Venture. I can’t stand the new Wing.... Similar situation here. I'm undecided what to do with my totaled 1500 Aspencade-that I've now repaired. If I decide to ge...

Re: Austone Taxi Tire, BRAND NEW for sale

A chunk of iron came bouncing down the the road and because of traffic, I couldn't avoid it. It apparently fell off of a truck a few vehicles ahead of me. I hit it and it bounced up, poking a hole in the engine, dumping the oil immediately, covering the rear wheel, and providing a few "puckering" mo...

Re: Darkside

IMHO, the Austone is/was the best or the 1500.. You can still find them, but you have to look. You're not going to walk in to your local tire place and find them. There's even one on this board for sale. They're still widely available in England. The issue is getting someone to ship them. Know anyon...

Re: Austone Taxi Tire

This is a great tire at a great price for anyone considering going dark on a 1500. It's a six ply radial that works as well with a radial or bias front tire. I got over 35K miles on mine.

I experienced the same. It was a clamp on a hose, but I had to dig deep to find it.

Re: Fourth Annual GoldwingDocs Gathering - Sep 2020

I spent the better part of a week in that area, riding The Back, The Claw, 421, and the great roads in the area. We stayed at Hungry Mother State Park. Tent sites, RV sites and a good selection of cabins. I shared a two bedroom cabin-with full kitchen and bath with two others Besides being equipped ...

Re: DarkSide

The choices for a GL1500 are somewhat limited . Not all CTs perform the same, and are very PSI sensitive. A tire that "wiggles" at 32# might instantly become super glue at 43#. Measure the space you have available(height and width) on your bike. If you decide on a manufacturer and model tire, compar...

Re: Prices

I gave a price of what I've seen them go for. Higher are asked and those set on the market a long time, on the east coast and the west coast. Plus no pictures given to judge by, just someone's words and minimal at that. You can believe what you want. The fact is the market is in a deep slump on use...

Re: Prices

^ that's a ridiculous response. Maybe that's the most you'd pay, but, in good condition, it's worth way more than $1500, no matter where you live.

Re: Rear tire failure

I had replaced both tires @ 22,000 miles with OEM Dunlops, left for my trip with 26,300 and all of the above occurred @ 33,500 miles. I hadn't realized that I was pushing the limits of the tire until it failed; however in retrospect I was less than diligent about checking the condition of my rear t...

Re: Snow? Snow doesn't bother me...

I wouldn't have pulled that out of the shop, much less ride it. Snow doesn't bother me, I ride all winter, as long as the roads are dry. Back in the mid 60's there was a large field that would be flooded, then frozen with a couple of inches of ice. Every Sunday(weather dependent) a group of anywhere...

Re: Tires and Brake Pads

For brake pads, I prefer the stock organic pads. They have been hard to beat for performance and I don't have to worry about them ruining the discs, like some metallic pads will do. The absolute best tire for a 1500 is the Austone( IMHO), but I've also had great results with the Bridgestone Excedra ...

Re: How long does your riding gear last?

It 's just by accident that my three (two 'cold weather' and a mesh)jackets are all First Gear. I've had them all for over ten years, and only the mesh is starting to look a little worn. My two pair of Cortech kevlar reinforced cargo pants are still like new after the same amount of time. I'll proba...
